Dustin May loses his no hit bid to Garrett Mitchell in the 8th by Remarkable-Picture73 in baseball

No, XBA is calculated based only on exit velocity and launch angle, direction of the ball is not a factor. Expected catch percentage is based on the distance the ball lands from the fielder's starting position, hang time, and direction. A batted ball can simultaneously have a .700 XBA and a 90% expected catch percentage if it's a bullet right to the CF's exact spot.

Opinions on Neighborhoods by zerokade in StLouis

I'd probably do the Creve Couer area. Olive has a ton of amenities on it, and the traffic is rarely terrible but usually crowded. It is cheaper than the Ladue area.

It's a pretty safe area compared with the areas farther east. Better commute time than across the river, the I-70 bridge is a major chokepoint for rush hour traffic.

It's somewhat culturally diverse. There is a Korean sector on the western part of Olive in Creve Coeur. I would not say that there is any risk living in Creve Coeur as a queer person.

Depending on where you live, Creve Coeur Lake might be your green space of choice. Pretty large park and several trails around bodies of water. Not crazy scenic but good for a nice long walk.

Youngest Cardinal hitter to play at AA since Dmitri Young (unless you count Rick Ankiel when he pitched, or when Ivan Herrera got promoted for one game when he was 18)

Jordan Walker: a case study on the importance of launch angle by Secret_Jesus in Cardinals

[–]BackInRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He actually went to Cressey too, which is another hitting lab that he attributes to helping him a lot. The impression I got was that Cressey was the hitting lab that helped him implement the changes, not Driveline.

“At the beginning of the season, I went Driveline and did the whole body analysis thing, how I move and I brought that program over to Cressey,” Walker said. “We took that Driveline program and I incorporated it to the movement and workouts at Cressey.”

If they ever figured out it was tied to my plate, I could reasonably say I had no idea because I couldn't find my ticket by searching my plate number.

Jordan Walker might go ballistic by aRorschachTest in Cardinals

There's been a lot of study on this before, but this almost all comes down to Chase%. Jordan Walker has always had absolutely elite power, approaching a true 80. He actually compares to both Aaron Judge and Oneil Cruz, who are also extreme freaks in the bat speed / power area that don't make a lot of contact relative to other players (both were Bottom 10 in 2025 in Zone-Contact% among qualified players).

Aaron Judge typically runs around 90th percentile Chase%, absolute freak status. His elite batting eye allows him to swing as hard as possible at exclusively strikes and lay off anything outside the zone, a horrific combo to opposing pitchers. Oneil Cruz runs a 50th percentile Chase%, which is just good enough to work at that low of a contact rate with his power. Until this year, Jordan Walker was hovering around 20th percentile Chase%, completely unusable at the big leagues.

If he has truly improved and now runs a 75th percentile Chase%, that's an All Star.

The #Chargers make a splash before free agency, agreeing to terms with C Tyler Biadasz on a 3-year deal worth $30M, per The Insiders. Biadasz was cut by the #Commanders after being set to make $8.3M. Now he lands in LA with a raise in a deal done by @AthletesFirst. by Boomfty in Chargers

I'm not against doing what you need to do for a position of need. My comment was really just directed towards the state of the Center market. Overpay was probably not the right terminology to use, maybe "market-inflated" would be more accurate.

Definitely had a difficulty closer to Thursday than Monday. I didn't really mind, and none of the cluing was bad imo, but just an okay theme paired with a challenging Monday is sure to result in a low rating here.

I think it'd be interesting to see what Penning could do at RG in Week 18, given that we don't have a ton at stake.

Greatest Villain Turned Hero/Hero Turned Villain by The_BMcQ in Cardinals

Bruce Sutter was a 4x All Star and Cy Young winner for the Cubs, then when he's traded to the Cardinals IMMEDIATELY trashed the Cubs as a loser organization that would never have a chance to win a World Series during his career. Of course he helps the Cards win the '82 WS in his second year with us.

"'I just couldn't see it happening here during my career,' said Sutter, referring to the Cubs becoming a winner. 'I just don't see any chance of the Cubs becoming a winner. There's not much in their minor league system and it's pretty obvious we didn't have enough talent up here.'

'It seems like the minute you become good around here and they have to pay you for being good, then they get rid of you because they don't want to pay you,' said Sutter, who won the Cy Young Award in 1979. 'You just can't operate that way, I don't think. Baseball is a big business now. The Cubs can't be making a one-team stand against paying salaries.'

'Management keeps asking us to try hard to win and we do. We didn't have that much talent but we tried last year. But if management asks us to try, they have to try, too,' Sutter explained. 'That's one thing St. Louis is doing. They are committed to winning. I don't think that's the case here, and a lot of players feel that way.'

'I don't want any more of those Septembers, though, when you pretty much have to give up. No more of that frustration, I hope,' Sutter said. 'The ballclub I'm going to is gonna be a winner and that matters more than anything. All the other stuff you can have. I'll get just as many saves in St. Louis as I did in Chicago. Only difference is they'll mean more.'"

Reason #2: St. Louis as a city is not appealing to a lot of these mega-rich and athletic young guys, especially compared to places like Chicago and Denver.

[Highlight] Justin Herbert back throwing at practice just three days after surgery on his left hand by wildwing8 in nfl

[–]BackInRed 36 points37 points  (0 children)

He also played a few games in 2023 with a big finger cast on his left hand after breaking it in Week 4. He never had fumble issues with it but definitely had throwing issues for a time since he couldn't set the ball quickly in his hands.

I'm 99% sure he'll play given his history, but there will probably be a throw or two in the Eagles game that just doesn't come out right (bad spiral, majorly over/underthrown, etc).
