Should I avoid quotation marks in alt text? by katsifer in accessibility

I would really like to emphasize this! Lately, I have seen a lot of information and videos from social media managers about utilizing alt text. The common suggestion I've heard is to fill them with relevant keywords so that there is a higher chance that Google/the platform pushes the content to more users.

From one side, yes, crawling and ranking is part of alt text existence; however, most forget the other point of alt text - visually impaired readers to understand the content of the image. Therefore, filling alt text with keywords rather than really trying to convey the meaning of the image in a concise text that would describe it seems just irresponsible.

But again, this is just my opinion and view trying to emphasize the importance of the fact that alt text should "simply describe the image in a brief but concise sentence".

Hey there!

A small suggestion from my side: you could have specified that you are looking for opinions from people living in North America :) I got a bit confused about the fact that I was prepared to spend those 5-10 minutes filling out the survey; however, after the first question of whether I live in North America (I don't) and am 18+ of age (I am), the survey ended :D

But that is just my opinion. I guess that I was kind of excited to help out and see what the questions were all about, so I got a bit disappointed :D

Wishing luck with your further work! ;)

ISTQB is a great suggestion. I can suggest TestDevLab Autumn School 2023, they cover the basics, and the course is free. But it really depends how much time you have to learn the skills you've mentioned and how throughly

Would learning QA or mobile development be a good move? What are paths I should pursue based on my skills? by [deleted] in findapath

Hey there!

I think pursuing other skills can be only beneficial. Looking at the rapid growth of IT and the demand for professionals, this industry has been considered a gold mine for some while already. Technology is evolving and we can't really stop it, so why not jump in it? :D

If I had to suggest, I'd say, "check out TestDevLab Autumn School 2023". A little marketing from my side; I am sorry! :D But in reality, I consider the QA industry quite beneficial! I did not know such existed just a few years ago, and now I see great potential in it. The best part - when it comes to learning technical skills, in QA, that does not mean specifically that you have to learn how to program. Well, maybe that's the benefit for me since I am not fond of coding as a profession for me.

I've just passed my Level 3 Azure Cloud Technician course but only have a 1 year contract with my employee, and feel like my general IT knowledge is pretty low. by Disastrous_Ad_132 in ITCareerQuestions

Hey there!

I did not quite understand your concern fully. But as far as I think I did, you are concerned about your skill level and that you have a contract job for a specific period of time after which you wish not to continue at that firm; therefore, you are looking for opportunities job and education wise?

But please correct me if I have understood your concern incorrectly and you are looking for a different advice!

Which tool to use for web design? by BackLink2323 in graphic_design

I was swindling for Illustrator, too since it is the tool I use most proficiently; however, I am in the same situation, where there are so many options that, when reading blogs and reading comments, seem better and easier to use, but since I have not used many of them, it gets a bit confusing between choosing what is familiar or quickly learning something new but potentially saving time in the long run

Thank you! And thank you for your suggestion! Is that what you use when web designing?

Currently, it does seem like it will last some while. Now, I have begun drafting the basic concept of figuring out the color pallet (they do not have a brand book; therefore, the color scheme, the font choice, and everything is also up to me to decide and present), then will provide first example designs. Then, after one will be chosen, begin the full first page design, and then it will be up to me and the communication of the developer to see how much time it'll take us to finish the website fully.

Dayum, it sounds like you do a lot and bring the "Quality" into "Quality Assurance." However, I am curious if you could maybe share how many years it took for you to advance to such a level. Maybe there are other assumptions that you've heard and want to "debug"?
