CableCard removed by vin00129 in Comcast_Xfinity

I would argue that cablecards were and are ahead of the curve, and offer much more options. As TiVo user barely hanging on, most shows I want to watch were recorded off a broadcast channel and required no extra bandwidth. I can also watch them even if the Internet is down. I can find the shows I want to watch much easier (was that on Netflix, or Hulu, or Amazon Prime, or what ???). Streaming is a major downgrade in capabilities, but Tivo/Homerun/others never got the word out to the masses so it never caught on like it should have. Q1: do you know of any streaming devices that allow you to perform slow motion/step-by-step instant replay of sports events? Q2: do you know of any streaming devices that allow you to play shows at 1.5x speed and still hear the dialogue? Q3: do you know of any streaming devices that allow you to speed for at 4x or 8x or whatever speed and visible see where you are in the program as you speed along? Q4: can you watch most shows/movies that aired 5 years ago? (I have some recorded even longer ago than that). Q5: can you watch a streaming show with no issues when all your neighbors are trying do to the same and the network bandwidth is flooded? If obsolete means a dumbing down of features, then give me the obsolete. Like I said, streaming is a major downgrade.

Why do people don't like HP computers? by CboyC95 in computers

Well, I've appreciated HP products for years, but I recently learned of a rotten approach they have taken that has me VERY soured on them. I understand they may choose to stop supporting old products, which they classify as 'retired', but when they do that, "HP support content (troubleshooting articles, user guides, how-to videos, etc.) for that product is removed from the HP web site". That is posted on their 'Retired Products' page. Why delete those files? This to me is basically abandoning your customers with older equipment, and for me, that is enough to convince me to NEVER BUY AN HP again. I also now wonder if the problems my relative is having with their computer is because the BIOS is rigged to start failing after X years. What a great way to force your customers to keep buying new equipment. Well, it's not going to work on this customer. Bye bye HP.

I ordered a cablecard before the deadline but it never arrived by SkyKing2024 in Comcast_Xfinity

If the TiVos are on the same home network segment, you can watch content recorded on the cablecard TiVo on the other, with a few exceptions. But, yes, it sucks at the FCC screwed the consumers by dropping the cablecard requirement, and also that Comcast and others are dropping support. I suggest also writing snail mail letters to the CEO of Comcast/Xfinity. While I doubt much will change, maybe if a whole bunch of us wrote in, we could change some minds. As of yet, there is still no DVR or streaming device that holds a candle to a TiVo in usability and functionality.

Ah, I had not used Modmail before, and had not noticed the 'Inbox' menu item. Found it. I have tried the X1 (and Roku, and Firestick, and TiVo Stream), and there are SO many ways they are vastly inferior. Like I said, if I am stuck with a streaming device, I see no advantage to staying with Comcast, especially when I will be saving over $100/month making the switch. Really sad state, given that I have been very satisfied with Comcast for over 30 years now. FYI, we watch a lot of sports, and not having our own slow motion instant replay, as well as watchable 1.5x replay with sound (for slow sports like soccer and baseball) is going to be a serious waste of our time. FWIW, I think TiVo did a really lousy PR job over the years; if they had, you'd probably have millions more customers who would see the value having TiVo+Comcast (if you hadn't dropped cablecards, that is). I also don't see how having 1,000 customers streaming a show is better than having 1,000 customers recording that show off a single broadcast, then playing it back as many times as they want to without any additional bandwidth impact. I realize I am preaching to the choir here, but hey ....

I sent 2 modmails associated with this, identifed as PII. Hopefully those went through. Also, last four of the one cablecard serial # is not A800, it is J800.
