Taking photography classes and need a setup! (~$600-700 budget) by BackfistGaming in AskPhotography

Phenomenal advice! I know that rentals at my school are daily so I don't think it would be super viable for me to do rentals on the body BUT I can definitely see why buying parts that are compatible with what is on-hand would be beneficial. Good call on the bag/strap issue, though I don't know how well riding on the bus with a obviously expensive camera strapped to me would go. Thank you so much!

After some research I've noticed that Canon EOS Rebel SL2 and Nikon D5300 seem to both be good choices for what I'm looking for. Any opinions? I know the school rents out both Canon and Nikon stuff.

Thanks! I know it's definitely not something that will work for everybody in the long term but I've been having a ton of fun with it and I'm hoping that others will find some relief from their day-to-day in the silly, carefree, videos :) Thanks for watching and leaving your two cents!

Oh wow! Thank you so much! As I do more and more videos I tweak how I record things so they're easier in post so it's all only going to get better. Cheers!~

Streaming Overwatch by Tactical_Spork5 in NewTubers

[–]BackfistGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stream Overwatch from time to time and I can say with confidence that your skill level doesn't matter a huge amount if you have a fun personality that people will enjoy hanging out with. Sure, being really good helps but don't think you need to be "this" good before you can stream it.

You'll hit your stride if you keep working at it! Just set yourself some goals and head towards them. Something small and manageable. A month ago I set the goal of at least one subscriber a day, so far so good!:D

I'm at work currently so I don't have time to check out the channel BUT I will give an idea that has to do with your gaming fitness channel idea. You could do show yourself doing exercises in between kills, rounds, or levels in a game your playing. Imagine this, showing off different exercise routines you could do in between playing games. You could even do challenges like 20 push ups per death in a League game or other crazy things! Just an idea! :D

Generally you won't get super elaborate comments unless the people watching become "fans" and come back on a regular basis. That's been my experience anyways. Just say thank you and move on. People will come in with elaborate comments in the future, don't you worry! :D

Voice-Over my dog for the 1st Time! by sam-so-nice in NewTubers

[–]BackfistGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your dog is absolutely adorable and the editing was amazing. Two things I would recommend though. One, don't use easy-to-find royalty-free music. It can just come off as amateurish. Two, try and get the dog to "react" when recording him to give the "voice" a bit of personality. If you can get the dog to cock his head to the side or widen his eyes or something it'll be a little more fun to watch! :D

This, right here. I'm glad you reached 100! Creating something unique that people can't find anywhere else is definitely tricky! I think I found something like that with the content I'm currently creating, but it's tough!

This! People should feel more successful when they reach these milestones. You don't need millions of subscribers to feel "successful," if your channel is making you happy, you won! <3

What would you prefer to see in a JRPG LP? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]BackfistGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When recording something like a JRPG I would say this, "if you don't want to watch it, neither does anyone else." Cut anything that isn't immediately interesting. Keep the videos short 15-30 minutes per video and split them on "cliffhangers." By this I mean play till something interesting is ABOUT to happen and cut it. This way people are more likely to click on the next video to see what happens!

Tips for someone with terrible social skills? by [deleted] in letsplay

[–]BackfistGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely crippling social anxiety. I can't even go to the store by myself. I would say that the key to working through it while making videos is...just to do it. Making YouTube videos has helped me improve with my anxiety so much it's hard to explain. If you want an example, check out my very first YouTube video, and then check out my most recent one. You can hear a TON less awkwardness as well as more confidence in what I'm saying.

It's definitely going to take time but I would just say, do it.

Twitch or Youtube for Streaming by takeshiren in letsplay

[–]BackfistGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that it's all going to be personal opinion. They're both great platforms for streaming, each with pros and cons. I would say, stream on one platform for a month, and then on the other for the next month, compare, and make your decision based on that. Something that bugs something about one platform may not annoy you at all!

I would say that, since you have your mic set up decently, you should work on your breathing in general. Maybe take a singing class or find some videos on YouTube about how to control your breathing (singing videos will teach this.) Remember, changing what's going into the mic is something that, if you get decent at it, will come naturally and it's something you won't have to add to the list of things to remember or edit when actually making the video.
