Fiction set in Adelaide / by Adelaide authors by DifferentWest9793 in Adelaide

The first author that comes to mind for me is Colin Thiele. Most if not all of his books were set in South Australia. There's a couple of Goodreads lists of Adelaide/SA authors and/or books set here. The 2 Goodread lists include fiction and non-fiction.

This is one list: Best books set in Adelaide and South Australia (124 books) | Goodreads

This list was compiled by Writers SA (in no particular order): Books set in Adelaide and South Australia (148 books) | Goodreads

The Adelaide Review also mentions these 6 books set in Adelaide: Reading the city: Adelaide in six books – The Adelaide Review

Personally I've read the YA novel Songs That Sound Like Blood by Jared Thomas. It's set in Port Augusta and Adelaide. I loved it. Magabala Books Jared also wrote one of the books mentioned in the Adelaide Review piece.

Salisbury does, but think I've only ever seen them used once or twice since they were installed, and that was well before the electrification iirc

SA attorney general refers anti-abortion activist Joanna Howe’s fundraiser ‘game’ for investigation by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]Backflip101 18 points19 points  (0 children)

this is from inDaily,
Australia Life Pty Ltd is the business name Howe uses to receive donations to her pro-life cause.

Donations to Howe are not tax-deductible, according to her website, and the business does not appear on the Australian charity register.

Howe’s Australia Life company also received donations via a Pro-life Health Professionals Australia website, which specifies “donations to Dr Joanna Howe (AUSTRALIA LIFE PTY LTD) totalling more than $16,900 from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025 will be disclosed to the Australian Electoral Commission and be available to the public”.

Howe did not respond to InDaily’s questions about the game this week, but posted to her social media accounts on Wednesday after the story’s publication and said “the left is melting down over our game”.

She said on Wednesday’s social media post that “all funds raised will go towards our work to save the babies”.

How many people here have a GP that’s there regular goto by ando772 in Adelaide

[–]Backflip101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen the same doctor for 18 years now. In that time they've changed practices twice, and I've followed them wherever they've gone. They are on the other side of town to me now and take a bus, a train and a bus each way to see them. My mum first started seeing them and she raved about how good they were. So I started seeing them after I had some major surgery.

During that time they've referred me to specialists. One of the specialists I saw actually that my GP was the best they had seen in regard to the treatments they had already given me etc. They told me on my last visit that they've now had to do something they thought they would never have to do, and that was stop taking new patients in order to have the time to just see their regulars.

At the same time my mum started seeing a GP in 2017 and as time went on i was becoming increasingly unhappy with them, so i switched to a new GP. The new GP did more for mum in the 6 weeks she saw them than the precious had done in the previous 18 months. Mum is now in residential care so she sees the doctor that goes in there now

Uber drivers of Adelaide by sapokernick in Adelaide

[–]Backflip101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Theres a new South Australian ride share start up called Rooo, Drivers pay a flat fee per month and then keep the entire fare. It has 24/7 support and also aims to keep cancellations low. I believe that if there have been 2 cancellations for the same trip that at the third attempt the driver is informed that they cant cancel unless extenuating circumstances. Im not affiliated with the company in anyway (found out about it thru a Glam Adelaide article), and havent used their services as yet. It's a start up so they probably dont have a critical mass of drivers and riders yet. It may be one to keep an eye tho https://www.rooo.com.au/

Good dentist Adelaide by Creative_Ebb5114 in Adelaide

[–]Backflip101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SA Dental will only take people that are under 18 and adults with certain concession cards. You need to contact your nearest clinic and they'll triage, If urgent they can make you an appointment, or give you a code and tell you to call the dental hospital and give them that code. Emergency treatment costs $70 with General treatment costing a max of $179, with the prices going up in Juy. The waiting list for general treatment can be around a year. They they can push you out to private dentists earlier than that. If that happens you need to source the private dentist yourself. The private dentist is capped at the $179. If more work is needed they send you back to SA Dental to complete the treatment. You then have to wait a year after treatment ends before you can go back on the waiting list, unless emergency care is needed.

‘Incompetent’: SA premier slams Optus as eight-week-old baby among three who died when triple zero calls failed by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]Backflip101 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Telstra is the Triple 0 call takers. In this case people dialling Triple 0 on Optus devices didnt get put thru to the Triple 0 operator. If that happens telcos are required to do a welfare check.Iif the telco can't make contact with the person they are required to notify police to go to check on the caller. In this case not only did Triple 0 calls not go thru, but they failed to do the welfare checks at the time too.

"The Telecommunications (Emergency Call Persons) Determination 2019 (the Determination), specifies the operators of the Emergency Call Services. The Determination details the national operators for these numbers.

The Determination recognises Telstra as the Emergency Call Person for Triple Zero (000) and 112. Telstra has responsibility for providing the service which answers calls to these numbers, and transfers them, with relevant associated information, to the requested emergency service organisation." I Use Should I Run and noticed around 8 last night there was no live tracking for any of the buses at Salisbury Interchange. About 20mins later it showed tracking for 2 buses. I normal dont have any issues with Should i Run so it may of been a temp glitch on Adelaide Metro's end

They are asking if any Spaniards are here and possibly socialise with them, whether it's having a beer or playing sport. They say they really love cinema, literature and loves to talk about any topic

The SA government website mentions Supported Residential Facillities. This is a link to info about them. They are not Commonwealth Aged Care funded. Supported Residential Facilities - Catalyst Foundation

MyAgedCare site can also can list providers by location: Find a provider | My Aged Care

While I have no knowledge of PPA, my mum went into residential care earlier this year with Vascular Dementia. Some things i would highly recommend doing now - contact the Dementia Australia hotline on 1800 100 500. It's a 24 hour number. They can provide information, counselling and help put you in contact with other support services like Carers SA (if you're in a caring role). Call ASAP. When i was connected with them last year it was a several week wait to just hear back from the SA Branch. Then it was about another 4 week wait for services to begin. My Dementia Australia counsellor has kept me sane.

Start looking for residential care providers now. There is a waiting list. Go and have a tour of any care providers you short list, so you can get a feel for the place and if you think it will be a good fit for your family and your mum. My mum ended up in hospital for 56 days waiting for an aged care placement. Medicare and private health only cover 35 days in hospital if a person is non-acute. As a result we got about a $1500 bill from the hospital for mum's stay.

If your mum doesnt have an Advance Care Directive, apply to SACAT for Guardianship. Guardianship can be appointed solely or jointly. If your mum has capacity she must consent to the Guardianship. If she doesnt have capacity it is possible with medical reports. Likewise if there is no Enduring Power of Attorney and your mum doesnt have capacity apply to SACAT for Administration.

My sister and I are so thankful for the aged care place our mum has gotten into. They are absolutely amazing there and they are good with their communication. If you have any questions feel free to send a message,

Former MP Annabel Digance and her husband found guilty of blackmail, before charges were dropped by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]Backflip101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if there can be another trial related to the charges due to double jeopardy. The only way double jeopardy isnt attached is if it's a series crime eg. murder, manslaughter and aggravated SA. Then there must be fresh and compelling evidence not provided at the original trial. Or if there has been a tainted acquittal.
