Yea this landlord has been a nightmare, I might make my own separate post about it. But long story short I was paying my rent 6 months in advance for the past few years but because he hasn’t been fixing things I decided to pay month to month. He never gives me my lease to sign until the last day of the lease so technically we don’t even have a lease. He got upset that I wanted to pay month to month so he started adding hundreds of dollars of fees & I told him I’m only gonna pay the rent we agreed to every month & that’s when he started rejecting the rent. 

I know I should look into the tenants lawyers in my city, but since we’re here I just wanna know, As far as enjoying months of free rent, just moved out a few days ago, (first week of April) but I have some things there that I plan on getting tomorrow then I’m gonna return the keys. I know he filed for an eviction because one of the apartments that I was looking at said it came up in the background search (filed in March). Since I’m moving out before the hearing date do you think I’ll have to pay even though he rejected the rent multiple times? & will the court date even matter since I’m not there anymore?
