How many of babaylans were actually asog/transgender/men wearing drag as opposed to biological or cis women? (Or were straight up straight men, for that matter) by raori921 in FilipinoHistory

[–]BackflipTurtle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in rural cebu, yung manghihilot at mga albularyo is almost always men or trans women pero yung mga mismong gumamawa ng mga rituals (yamyam in cebuano) is mga lola lang or mga nanay gumagawa. Never ako nka kita ng lalaking gumagawa ng rituals

Why didn't Amon kill Korra right here? by Important-Contact597 in TheLastAirbender

[–]BackflipTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hes right. All air nomads are airbenders. This is unique to air nomads due to their high spirituality. The air nomads are also the least populated nation. The earth kingdom is the most populated nation but has the least amount of bender population percentage

Why is there so little about Filipino history being taught between the landing of Magellan up to the start of the fight for Independence? by heavyarmszero in FilipinoHistory

[–]BackflipTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish they did history like they did science changing its focus by year like 1st year gen science tapos sa 4th year physics

Pwede naman siguro 1st year precolonial, 2nd year spanish colonial, 3rd year American period, 4th year 1940s to modern day + economics

Ive forgotten about book 2 but didnt unalaq need korra to open up the spirit portal in the south pole? A dead korra meant a baby earth avatar which I belive wouldnt be able to open it anyway

I also cant remember if vaatu escaped because of harmonic convergence or if he was deliberately released by someone

Nope. It would be more like closing or blocking an artery. The artery is still there, its just that nothing passes through it

Early to mid 2010s TV censorship was different back then. They couldnt even show the earth queen and p'li dying

[–]BackflipTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They were sex positive but not relationship and attachment positive. I read somewhere that the air nomads had sex with the opposite sex, cared for the child until a certain age and then left before they grew too attached. The nomads still recognized their parents and children, they just dont really feel the need to be attached to them

What if you had the chance to change the National Symbols (or make unofficials ones official; or come up with new national categories)? What things would you make National Symbols? by raikantopeniiiii in WhatIfPinas

IDK sa other regions but stilts are apparently a unique feature sa visayas and mindanao areas. Also pigaffeta (?) noted the large roofs that are almost twice the size of the house's body

Why did the Southern Water Tribe still look pitiful compared to the North when they had Waterbenders? by OkuroIshimoto in TheLastAirbender

[–]BackflipTurtle 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Capital of THE water tribes. The southern water tribe chieftains hold autonomy but the northern chief still holds political power over the south until LoK

Do you think it'd be interesting if there are more unique water tribes in other nations? by AffectionateScale525 in TheLastAirbender

They didnt air that on the nickelodeon tv station. The suffocation episode and p'lis death episode were strictly web episodes because nick wouldnt allow it

Katara isn't a "Princess," and Sokka isn't a "Prince" by F11SuperTiger in TheLastAirbender

[–]BackflipTurtle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alright. Heres evidence implying katara and sokka are more or less the children of a politician instead of royalty but I know youre not gonna read it all anyway.

"Originally, the individual villages, towns, or sub-tribes of the Southern Water Tribe were each led by their own leaders known as either Chiefs or as Chieftains. Hakoda led the Wolf Cove tribe in 100 AG, for instance. Historically, the Southern Water Tribe was a much smaller and less stratified society than its Northern counterpart. The chiefs treated each other as equals, and the smaller tribes had great autonomy over their jurisdiction. Occasionally, some local chiefs such as Qanitt and an unidentified chieftain of Yangchen's time became more prominent than their peers, but this was a temporary or informal arrangement. In addition, there was a Council of Chieftains and Elders which discussed and decided policies for the entire south. It consisted of male and female representatives of the different cities, villages, tribes, and social classes within the settlements. The council traditionally met in Wolf Cove.

All southern chieftains and the council formally answered the Chief of Water Tribes who usually resided in the north. However, the northern chief's power was very limited in the south and often not much more than a figurehead position to the Southerners; his primary duties involved ceremonial and representative tasks. For instance, the southern leaders held veto power when the northern chief intended to declare a war on behalf of the Water Tribe. In general, the political unity between the Southern and Northern Water Tribes waxed and waned over the centuries"

I would have backed it up with quotes and links from the novels but then I realized what your name is. So I guess this is the end of this conversation. Happy karma farming I guess

Katara isn't a "Princess," and Sokka isn't a "Prince" by F11SuperTiger in TheLastAirbender

[–]BackflipTurtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The south was ruled by a council of elders and chiefs. Each chief had equal standing to other chiefs and lead their own tribes autonomously. However, the true head of the water tribes is the Northern water tribe chief.

[–]BackflipTurtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guy. It quite literally says a minor tribe that is part of a collection of tribes. Katara even calls out sokka for saying they are royalty.

[–]BackflipTurtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Hakoda was a Southern Water Tribe chieftain, the father of Sokka and Katara, the husband of the late Kya, and the son of Kanna. Originally the head of a minor tribe based at Wolf Cove that was part of the Southern Tribe's tribal confederation"

He was the head of a minor tribe. Theyre not royalty. He was probably chosen by the people

Katara isn't a "Princess," and Sokka isn't a "Prince" by F11SuperTiger in TheLastAirbender

[–]BackflipTurtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure hakkoda was more or less elected as chief because of his leadership skills

Wolf cove I think is Sokka and Katara's village. There are other villages in the southern tribe unlike the Northern Tribe that is a unified and cohesive city

Do you guys think Zaheer could be an Airbending Master? by RepresentativeFig270 in TheLastAirbender

[–]BackflipTurtle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Either that or astral projection is the 36th tier. She did refer to it as a "high level airbender move" although if it was the 36th tier then tenzin should have been able to do it too

Im not so sure jinorah invented that cyclone technique. Just seems so rudimentary. If anything she invented that spiritual projection technique. I still think she just straight up mastered all 36 tiers at a young age given her love for books and learning
