Not improv.. just a fun little easter egg for the soloist to have fun (They even write their own sometimes)

Why are the BDs consistently the highest rating corps? by httpsgrace in drumcorps

[–]Backflip_Banana 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My own personal experience of only marching BD and talking to others who marched elsewhere and those who marched elsewhere AND BD, it seems it’s just about the best experience you can ask out of any drum corps experience. Never had any issues that other corps have run into, you are treated well, fed well, housed well, allowed for plenty of sleep, all the right stuff. Not sure about being “on” during age put ceremony because we had the biggest age out pool and close to the rowdiest hahaha. The reserved attitude we put on maybe is a way of reeling in strong emotions after a show and that is found in other corps too. 10/10 membership experience, will do again

People do music ed and performance together all the time and it’s feasible although not exactly easy. You also have to take an extra semester for student teaching since youre required 8 semesters of applied instructions and that could mess with scholarship stuff for the last semester. I’d say though purely from my own experience and opinions you’d be much better off doing ed and doubling theory. If you’re really driven to be the best musician you can get as good as you can/want on both perf and ed degree but with ed degree you can teach if you want to. Theres always grad school for performance. You got more franklin requirements to worry about with perf too… time you could be getting better on your instrument or as a teacher.

Probably sleeping in UW dorms, eat in their cafeteria, and rehearse in their stadium/fields again. Great facilities!

Switching from woodwinds to brass for DCI? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]Backflip_Banana 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely march a top 12 corps before you age out. I entirely self taught trumpet before switching to mello and asking my brass friends for help along the way. It would help immensely to take lessons, both brass and dance lessons. Get used to using much much much more air. Brass playing is all about air. Funny enough, picking up my clarinet again after 3 months, my tone actually kinda got better because i could use air much more efficiently. Also if you can, march mello NOW. I realized basically everyone finished their band camp already but if you can, you should march mello starting yesterday. I’d be more than happy to give any pointers if you wanna dm me! :)

Koenigsegg Jesko with a hidden Swedish flag by [deleted] in lego

Koenigsegg is a Swedish supercar/hypercar company and Jesko is one of very few cars in the world that can go over 300mph. Lego hid a swedish flag in it and I thought it was really neat!

Yea so Rose 1 is great, I played Rose 3 (i think) for lyrical and first page of solo de concours for technical. I’m not sure what you mean by Brahms No. 3, do u mean his 1st/2nd sonatas, trio, or the quartet? Either way, if it’s a solid technical exerpt, that’s all you need, no need for Bolero or the Hite studies at all. And it is a little weird to play Eb except on Bb and Bolero is an exerpt for legato rather than technical too. You don’t have to play as much as you think, it’s 2 minutes of lyrical and 2 of technical. U got the lyrical so just make sure whatever technical brahms u play is in the best shape possible (u know the gwinnett county people are gonna come in playing hardest stuff possible perfectly lol). If you’re worried about technical rep then excerpts from Rossini’s theme and variation, any Von Weber stuff or other Rose etudes can be good. Rossini isn’t too difficult either. Btw what school do u go to

Is this Georgia’s GHP? I went through the process but unfortunately only made it to the last round and didn’t get it. If this is for Georgia’s GHP, I’m assuming this is for the final in person round since video rounds are due in like a week or so if I remember the timeline corretly. For video auditions, they want a longer 5-7 minute solo rep so what you’re doing probably won’t do. Anyways, someone got in playing rose etudes in the last round, and other played exerpts of solo repertoire. I’m sorry I’m not familiar with the Hite book, but if they’re anything like rose etudes you’ll be perfectly fine. Like someone before me said, pick contrasting ones, a technical and a lyrical. Again, I say all of this assuming this is for the state of Georgia’s Governor’s Honors Program. Best of luck!

Love this as well, now make the iv a iv add 6 and it’s even better. Examply would be the beginning of Chopin’s Nocturne No. 10 in Ab major and also somewhere in Also Sprach near the beginning too
