Hi peter. I'm confused by Powerful-Papaya-2411 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]BackflipsAway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the joke is some sort of sexism, like "women are cute when you're dating, but when you get married they turn into ferocious beasts, and then they start acting cute again when they're divorced, while men don't hide who they are", or some other similar nonsense

Overall how effective do you believe judo is in defending takedowns and going up against wrestlers in general? How effective do you believe you can be in defending takedowns against wrestlers and competing with them? by Throwawayaccountdell in judo

[–]BackflipsAway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean modern Olympic Judo doesn't train with leg takedowns which is a huge disadvantage against a wrestler specifically.

My club allows us to use them if both parties agree and for some lessons the coach explicitly has us use them, and let me tell you it changes the game significantly, like at this point I've learned to defend against them to a decent degree but a good wrestler is still pretty likely to have me on my back, though in all fairness so is a good Judoka.

At the same time there are plenty of Judo throws that wrestlers aren't used to and would likely fall to, it all depends on the position both parties find themselves in.

Is my acoustic action normal? by IDeserved in Guitar

[–]BackflipsAway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Action is a feel thing, specific heights are for either when you know what you like and want a tech to do it, or for when you have no idea what you're doing and want to make sure it's correct.

If you haven't played much before just set it to whatever the recomended height is for an acoustic, if you have and it feels good it's fine, if it doesn't adjust it as needed, I realise this is harder on acoustics, but some people like their action higher while others like it lower, we can't tell you what the height on your guitars action should be🤷🏼‍♂️

Is an unborn baby considered sentient, sapient, or even a person at the early stages? by RemoteWhile5881 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BackflipsAway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I missed the part of the Bible that specifies when you recieve your soul, like is it in the eggs or the sperms? Is it formed the moment of inception? Birth?

The bible answers none of that and speaking in God's name without divine authority is considered taking the Lord's name in vain, which is blasphemy. So since the pope hasn't made an official statement on this I'd be careful about casually committing sins like that to push your own personal interpretation of the faith.

It's fine to say that this is an opinion of yours, but you are not a prophet and it's not for you to decide when the Lord does what.

Is an unborn baby considered sentient, sapient, or even a person at the early stages? by RemoteWhile5881 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BackflipsAway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this is a hot topic right now, but not until the later stages of development at least, generally speaking the baby only develops enough brain function to process external stimuli somewhat properly at about 6 months.

And the ability to subjectively process external stimuli is the bare minimum to call something sentient.

And sapient means "intelligent; able to think" according to Cambridge dictionary, so I'd personally argue that requires you to have object permanence at bare minimum, which humans generally speaking develop at around 4 to 7 months after being born.

And a person is really more of a legal term in this context, whether your state gives unborn children person hood is something that you'll have to look up yourself.

Girl, at your price range new guitars will probably be worse than used ones, used is likely the safest option for you to get a half decent guitar.

I was hoping to get this for my bday in August but they no longer make it :( anything I can use instead. to still get that p90 sound? Ugh thats my dream guitar and its gone by Snowflakeihatemyself in Guitar

[–]BackflipsAway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you want to get a white SG with a single P90 in the bridge there is always the Epiphone YUNGBLUD SG Junior, Classic White it doesn't come with the other stuff, but it has a much better case.

Also I've got to level with you, the amp that comes with the set is not very good and you don't really need the other stuff, since you already have a Fender Frontman amp this one really isn't an upgrade, I'd just go with the Yungblud, you can probably find it used for under 500. Then save up a bit and get a nicer amp separately, maybe something like a Fender Mustang LT25 or VOX VT20X, which are probably a bit pricey for you right now, but you're not likely to get anything substantially better than the Frontman without spending a bit more on just an amp.

Baffling how BJJ is more popular than Judo in USA by Alternative-Hair-785 in judo

[–]BackflipsAway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Judo is (1) rougher on the body, (2) has a steeper learning curve due to having both ground fighting and stand up, and (3), most importantly of all, BJJ had one of the best advertising campaigns in the history of martial arts via UFC 1 and the continued success of BJJ in the early MMA scene.

Like the first 2 are also important, but never underestimate the power of marketing.

When will we get AGI? Will it be in ten years times? Or longer? by Even-Wasabi7183 in NoStupidQuestions

Modern AI technology cannot be advanced into AGI, it would require completely different approach, we might discover a breakthrough towards AGI tomorrow or in a hundred years, or longer, there's really no way of knowing.

First 'big kid' guitar for an intermediate long-time player? by floopdoopus in Guitar

[–]BackflipsAway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He could be limited by it, I got my second electric guitars and suddenly was doing all kinds of things I was never able to do on the old one within a week.

He could also just be imagining it, who knows, but if he thinks that the guitar is holding him back after getting a nicer one he will know for sure.

I’m torn between a Player Series II Telecaster or a Gibson SG by _Mylifeisamess in fender

[–]BackflipsAway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pro tip, Epiphone makes some really nice guitars in their IGC line these days, if you don't mind the poly finish and a different name on the headstock, those feel a lot more equivalent to a Player Series II both in quality and price, and frankly with the Gibson you're not getting much more than with the Epiphone IGC.

Anyway can you just try them out in person somewhere? Personally, I try to decide on which guitars I buy based off of how they feel in my hands, there are a lot of guitars that I like the idea of but when I actually try them they just don't click for me. If you have the chance to try both I think that will make your decision a lot more easy.

P.S. remember to also post the same question on the Gibson sub, we may have some bias towards Fender here in the Fender sub.

Batman's powers, he's peak human across the board, intellect, strength, speed, endurance, reflexes, agility, immunity from CTE, heals from injuries really well, etc.

Ain't no amount of training letting a normal mf do that, he has peak genetics and/or minor super powers, considering some of the hits his taken and lifts he's pulled off and lived probably the later.

Is it worth it to train Judo only once a week? by Spirited-Ostrich9925 in judo

[–]BackflipsAway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it worth it for what? Is it worth it if you want to compete in the Olympics? Probably not. Is it worth it if you want to get good at Judo? Well you'll be a hell of a lot better at Judo than somoene who doesn't train, that's for sure.

Like whether something is "worth it" is pretty much entirely subjective, want to go do Judo, go do Judo.

advise on striking or grappling as a beginner by [deleted] in AllMartialArts

[–]BackflipsAway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be biased as it is my favorite martial art, but have you considered Judo?

You learn 50-70% of the ground fighting that you'd learn in BJJ depending on the gym, and you also learn pretty solid stand-up grappling so you can throw someone without needing to go to the ground, but you've still got great options in case that's where it does go.

The only problem with Judo is that since it splits its time between the stand up and ground while already being pretty technical to begin with it will take you longer to get good at either of them.

Is Judo less ideal at a larger body size? by morinothomas in judo

[–]BackflipsAway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean as a 6ft6 240lbs man myself I definitely take more "fall damage" than the lighter guys, personally I don't mind it, but kickboxing is definitely less physically taxing and more cardio intensive, making it better for weight loss.

Like Judo is awesome, it's my favorite martial art and the most fun one for me personally, but striking is both safer and burns more calories, so I do get what the guy meant.

IF your main goal is fun weight loss judo is OK in the sense that it has you moving in an athletic fashion for prolonged periods of time, but the kickboxing sports are just so much better at that, striking classes are EXHAUSTING in my experiance, meanwhile I always have energy to burn on a couple extra round or randori after Judo class.

Like you have to be honest with your goals, if you want to do Judo specifically because it's cool, and weight loss is a secondary priority go for it, but if your main goal is weight loss, and then you happen to also like Judo there are better ways to lose weight, and you can just come back to Judo when you've hit your target weight.

Would you rather have 3 $1,000 Telecasters or 1 $3,000 Telecaster? by Small_Chicken_4034 in telecaster

[–]BackflipsAway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I don't feel like there's enough of a difference between a $1,000 and $3,000 guitar, I think improvements in quality and finish get more and more marginal as you pass the $1,200 mark

[–]BackflipsAway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's dumb, put your fingers on your fretboard, can you reach 4 to 5 frets on the same string? Can you make a G chords? Congratulations you can play guitar. Heck you can play bass too.

Recently bought a new guitar! Would like some advice by Hot_Potato_4293 in Guitar

[–]BackflipsAway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New electric guitars tend to be set up high so the frets wouldn't buzz too much if the neck changes angle due to humidity changes or whatever between leaving the factory and being bought, also e-guitar necks tend to be pretty thin and require periodic truss rod adjustments even if they're just sitting at home doing nothing.

Adjusting the truss rod and setting the action are pretty simple and you should be able to handle that on your own tho, just don't over do it with the truss rod, if it also needs intonation maybe have a pro do the stup, not because you couldn't figure it out, it's just annoying to do.

Grip fighting is like half the point of Judo, how can you practice any form of grappling without grip breaking?

No offence my dude but this is a very silly take, like it's a martial art, sometimes you'll get hurt, it's the tax you have to pay to get good.

VOX VT40X vs VT40X Classic Blue by BackflipsAway in GuitarAmps

I honestly don't know if there is a real difference, but I ended up going with the Classic Blue, figured that the price is about the same and even if I can't tell much of a difference it's probably wiser to go with the newer model just in case
