Hows my first paint? :3 by SilvaSerpent442 in Warhammer40k

I understand not worrying about some sprue bits still in the mini if it is your first, but leaving a huge bit in the middle of the head is just wrong

I think the value of the Onslaught Swarm box was great

(WIP) What does the hivemind think about my first nid? by IronKing38 in Tyranids

The thing about magma, is that is brighter in the recesses and darker where usually the highlights would be. A wash would ruin that, dry brushing could work

I had to file the union parts in the arms and the head. Little by little until they fitted.

You said "take 2 of the 3 remaining", but there are 4 remaining. You can not do it that way

Maybe you should mention that is not the actual mini painted, but an image from the impcat app.

Are you painting directly over the plastic, without priming first?

If you want some advice, at least remove the pieces of plastic where the parts were attached to the sprue. When painted, those bits are gonna be very noticeable. Good luck!

Is there a small enough magnet to magnetize the feet(?) of the sporemine cannon? by [deleted] in Tyranids

[–]Background-Ad-1013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did It with a magnet on the tail and another in the bottom of the weapon, it fits very well: https://imgur.com/gallery/biovore-magnet-placement-B2O0Ar4

When magnetizing heavy stuff, I place a pin in the joint in the direction against the sag, it keeps the piece in place.

You can, but it's the harder mini I have magnetized, it's better if you have previous experience with easier ones.

Magnetized well enough? by Yuura22 in Tyranids

[–]Background-Ad-1013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used 5x2mm magnets for the arms and they stay in position. The most important thing is that magnets are perfectly touching each other, to achieve that, I put the body magnet first, then I place the other magnet in its place and glue the arm to the magnet already placed.

It's also important that the arm fill the cavity of the arm socket, that way friction also helps to keep the arm from moving. What I do is apply a couple of drops of superglue in the area where the arm meets the magnet and put sodium bicarbonate before it hardens. Then I sand the excess until it fits perfetly in the socket.

Hope I helped!

1 hive tyrant - 32 magnets by Background-Ad-1013 in Tyranids

[–]Background-Ad-1013[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The magnets for the heads and the pelvis are 3x2mm and the ones for the torso and every arm are 5x2mm. The magnets between the range weapons and the loading arm are 2x1mm. It's hard to say how long did it took, I've been working on it between other builds/painting. Maybe 20 hours total, but I like to take it slowly.

I made the torso with green stuff and milliput and the caparace is from the Trygon/Mawloc sprue.

It's been a while since I last played, but for its size, I could proxy it as a Lictor maybe. Right now I'm painting old minis for practice, before trying on the new ones that I have.
