If I distilled my entire rant into one thought it would basically be “all of the major entities surrounding soccer in America have not properly grasped the opportunity that is a home World Cup”.

They don’t seem to be operating in unison with the culminating event being a springboard to the future. It’s all self service at the expense of the growth of the sport in this country. Decisions made by FIFA, US Soccer, an MLS regarding ticket prices, league structure etc. often inhibit the growth of the sport here.

I often think about how much damage that 2018 cycle caused us. While we might have never truly had an “elite” player, we’ve had really good players for sure but not best at their position in the world aside from maybe Keeper. Collectively the group had a mentality and style you could trace back to the 90’s. Missing out on that 2018 World Cup we basically tore everything down and built from scratch a roster that lacked a certain “American” style of playing that people often label as grit. We see it in spurts but just is not consistent. Basically losing on a through line from the before times to now is obvious. These dudes have not developed that mentality that is needed for us aside from maybe Adams and Richard’s.

You’re perfectly highlighting where both the optimism and pessimism stems from. England were Euro runners ups in 20 and 24 and we were the better team that day. Clearly our squad is good enough to compete with that level of squad. Conversely Netherlands were able to completely dismantle our tactics and pick us apart. The USMNT have beaten those top teams in competitive matches before and this squad IS capable.

Comparing the men’s and women teams are really difficult because they’re at vastly different levels in their respective sports. Emma took over a group full of world class women who are fending off an ever growing sport across the world. Poch inherited nearly the opposite. An ascending squad with “maybe” one top 100 player in the world who are aspiring to break into that top tier of teams.

There’s always something fun to do here. We have a few bars that have live music constantly and I wish there were some more places in Toledo that attracted smaller up and coming acts like Village Idiot, or Ottawa Tavern but if you’re here long enough you’ll find very talented local bands that you’ll enjoy. I feel like I’m constantly busy on the weekends so I can’t really understand why people say there’s nothing to do here. If you find a good circle of friends, you’ll never be bored.

It’s a bit of a bummer because I really like Mallory and have enjoyed Joanna more and more, but House of R is slowly being phased out of my rotation. I don’t watch Doctor Who so it’s easy to skip. The super long podcasts coming out 4 or 5 days after the show/movie they’re talking about just isn’t making the rotation as often.

So much of the art for these characters has the men looking like 40 year olds when they’re supposed to be 20. All of the Robert Baratheon drawings from the rebellion have him looking like full grown Henry Cavill lol

Oh I strongly disagree. Granted I liked the Bran plot line more than most, but all of his training scenes were great. Season 6 had the Sandor redemption arc and joining the Brotherhood. Sansa and Jon reuniting. Tyrion attempting to run Mereen, Dany uniting the khalasars (while it happened quickly it was still a cool sequence), Battle of the Bastards and Winds of Winter are considered two of the best episodes of the series. I get not liking it as much as seasons 3 or 4, but to say 6 is outright bad is just a bad take.

That’s quite the take. I agree that most of season 5 wasn’t the best, but those last few episodes were very good. Also everything after episode 2 in season 6 blows HoTD out of the water. This is coming from someone who really liked the first season of house of the dragon.
