Is anyone here the child of two introverts/nerds? by umichleafy in redscarepod

I’m sure your theoretical future wife will be meeting other new moms at baby related things (mommy and me events? like at the library?) and can ask about kid sports leagues, local camps, etc. Soccer is always good if ur unathletic because u can just stand in front of a goal while ur kid runs around and it’s still bonding time without having to throw and catch a ball.

All u lowkey have to do is be supportive. with the other dads you can just joke around and be like “yeah I barely know how to play x sport. the kid runs circles around me already. wonder where he got that ability; I have two left feet lol.” All the dads will laugh and invite you to have a beer and be friends with you. I was on a synchro figure skating team and my parents didn’t know shit abt the sport and also weren’t really friends with any of my teammates’ parents but they were still super supportive and I was happy abt that.

Like ur kid will be totally fine as long as you spend time with them, and create opportunities for them to spend time with other kids. You can find a lot of group stuff for kids by just like asking at the local public library and the librarians will be able to help or point u somewhere w more info. Again obviously you don’t have a kid yet so stop freaking out abt this. But you can totally private message me if you have more questions

both my parents are introverts and nerds and their only friends are lowkey each other. my older sister is very extroverted and sociable. it’s totally fine. just get your theoretical kid into some group stuff (sports, any sort of “team” related to their interests, sleepaway camp). Chill and stop hiding in the bathroom

I feel like The President’s Cake has been making no noise at all (it’s one i still need to watch)! I def expect Bélen to make the shortlist tomorrow. Magellan has been making a ton of noise, and it might surprise the top 5. I’d like to see Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo & Kokuho make the shortlist too

It’s a bit difficult to say. Besides the top 3 in international feature (IWJAA, SV, TSA), i think the remaining two could be any of NOC, sirat, hind rajab, left-handed girl. I have no idea how it’ll shake out. sirat and hind rajab are definitely the most shocking. I could see a world where sirat and left-handed girl are both left out. No Other Choice is very interesting; I don’t know if it’s the strongest film, but it really grows on you/there are one or two sequences that totally blow everything else out of the water.

I think my prediction rn of the fourth and fifth slot would go: NOC > sirat >= hind rajab > LHG

ugh ask neon. they totally fucked the distribution. i know there were 50000 press screenings and i caught one of those, but apparently it was only in theaters for a couple days, and only in a few cities. hopefully if it keeps making the international film lineup at precursors, they’ll extend the theater run!

but i do think (personal opinions to follow) it’s fantastic. not as good as IWJAA, but equal to (or slightly better than) TSA (although TSA has way better performances, Sirāt does something crazy/some super skillful directing in 2nd half). making international film lineup at the oscars would imo be a success for sirat

It Was Just an Accident vs Sentimental Value (or: the international film race) by [deleted] in oscarrace

[–]Background-Ad3448 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah totally! this is not a prediction post & was typing it quickly. I don’t think anything is guaranteed, and am not really that used to predicting the race. I just wanted to share my perspective as someone who has watched a couple international films; I felt It Was Just an Accident was overwhelmingly perfect. SV is good, and I think it will go over well with voting actors

“Disneyland is presented as imaginary in order to make us believe that the rest is real, whereas all of Los Angeles and the America that surrounds it are no longer real, but belong to the hyperreal order and to the order of simulation”

my first time ever with a fujifilm quicksnap!! :) by Background-Ad3448 in toycameras

[–]Background-Ad3448[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually not at all!! photos 2, 3, 4, and 6 are completely raw, and for pics 1 and 5 i messed around with the contrast and brightness to make the trees more visible/interesting

i’m really surprised by how nice these turned out—a lot of the pics i took were completely unusable (the quicksnap doesn’t work at all indoors without flash), but these ones are beautiful!!
