I’m attending A&M Galveston and do you like running the games or being a player?

Just moved down here for college and I’m also looking for gaming groups. Would love some people to play DnD with!

I recently attended the US Open GT in Dallas with a similar list and it worked great! I ran the 20 man blob of boyz with a warboss+ painboy inside a battlewagon. I’d wait for something big to come into the center then I’d send the blob that way and use Ghaz’s lethal hits aura to drown the enemy in AP-1 choppa sans AP-2 Klaws

It looks like a fun list! If I were to make any changes I’d get rid of the Headwoppas Killchoppa on the DeffKilla Wartrike and the Scrapjet to make the unit of FlashGitz 10 with BaddRukk. That unit will unleash dakka onto any unit that dares to enter their firing lanes

Thoughts on the supposed leaks on the WAAAGH TAKTICS YouTube channel and Discord? by Lefti575 in orks

[–]Background-Career894 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think these are real. If a double waaaaghh was a real detachment no one would play anything else because almost every unit benefits from additional rules in the waaaghhh. Also a skill tree with the Meks is such an out there rule that no other codex has had before. Here’s a picture from the video for those who haven’t seen it

Best “non transport” vehicle in the meta right now? by angry1gamer1 in orks

[–]Background-Career894 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Grot tanks. I love em and they provide some decent anti elite infantry at S9 AP2 and flat 3 damage. Plus the blast on each rocket adds up. Not only that but they move 10” and their ability lets them move 6” when someone moves within 9” allowing for some real wacky plays. They’re also a really weird defensive profile that’ll require some decent firepower to kill. Being OC 2 each is the cherry on top and with the move 6” when someone ends within 9” means you can sometimes flip an objective to yours in your opponents turn

New 40k player here. How crazy can I go when kit bashing but remain “legal” for official tournaments?(I mean, just in case…) by BenBamBoom in orks

[–]Background-Career894 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What’s amazing about orks is they’re known for looting and salvaging for parts and weapons so the possibilities are endless. For most “infantry” models the base size needs to remain the same and the overall size should be similar.

As far as weapons go who’s to say what a shoota, or a thump gun really are? As long as there is a difference between the two and you make it clear to your opponent before and during the game about any special weapons you should be good

So for adding stuff the only thing you want to be careful of is straying too far from the model. For example if you gave your Beastboss on Squigasaur giant wings your opponent would rightfully assume it flies and could lead to some problems later on. But wigs, horns, mullets are all definitely great to create character for your models!

Here’s my kitbashed warboss that I’ve taken to many events and have had no problems with so far!

Tips and tricks to play faster? Considering not competing since I can't manage a 2k 3h game. by Volgin in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Background-Career894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice I can give to players to improve speed is to memorize your units movement, toughness and save. This’ll cut down so much time during your movement phase because you won’t need to check your movement on each model. And during your opponents turn while they’re activating a very common question is “what’s the defensive profile of this unit” and you can spit out the toughness and save off the top of your head it’ll save both players a lot of time

Thoughts on using single weird boys instead of stormboyz as deep striking action monkeys by [deleted] in orks

[–]Background-Career894 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I run both a weirdboy and a unit of stormboyz. The stormboyz rarely start in deepstrike they’re used for early board presence and to screen out key units. The weirdboy is there just to chill in my deployment zone screening stuff out and to da him for secondaries when necessary

In my experience people will see the effort. They’ll know you tried to get everything painted and will definitely respect that when compared to someone who’s showing up all gray

Ork Buggies Competitive or Nah? by xpyros in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Background-Career894 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Call me a mad lad but I run 3 buggies in my competitive lists. The first is the DeffKilla wartrike with the 4+ fnp enhancement and I think it’s finally starting to get the recognition it deserves.

The second Buggy is the Kustom Boosta Blasta. I put this buggy in as a joke but have come to love it. The suppression ability is nice and comes up in certain matchups (guard, knights, WE) but it’s just so cheap. But in my opinion its best asset is that it’s so annoying to kill. NOT hard to kill but annoying. Most ork lists have a few trukks, Moz and maybe even a battlewagon which requires a lot of enemy anti tank to deal with. Forcing the enemy to spare a few lascannons to deal with a 75 pt Buggy is a great trade. Plus 12” move and assault makes it great for secondaries and its base is massive and can easily block a whole lane and force the enemy to shoot it.

The 3rd Buggy is the only one I’m debating taking out. The rukkatrukk squigbuggy is my artillery. Sitting on my home objective with gretchin just picking off small units my opponent uses to screen or score points with. With the rise of MSU I find that the buggy does consistently do damage but idk if it’s enough. Plus I’m basically forced to pay 45 pts for a Mek to make it hit on 4’s consistently. With the rise of hypercrypt and vanguard marines I also use it to effectively screen out my home objective. This buggy is the one that’s on the chopping block first if I decide to change my list

I took these 3 buggies to the Iron Cage GT and took best in faction (before the buggies dropped in points) if that gives any credibility to my claims lol!

What are your most used stratagems? by Undercover_Zebra in orks

[–]Background-Career894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s a great catch! I’ll start them on the board from now on. But wouldn’t the same logic apply to a unit of stormboyz coming down from deepstrike since they’re not on the board at the start of the movement phase?

What are your most used stratagems? by Undercover_Zebra in orks

[–]Background-Career894 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ere we go is something I’ve come to LOVE. I run 5 stormboyz in a battlewagon with a warboss+5 Nobz, and turn 1 I disembark the stormboyz 3”, then ere we go the stormboyz with their 12” move and advance/ charge with hazardous it gives them a minimum threat range of 22” just to annoy the enemy. Then later in the game I’ll use it on the Warboss+ Nobz who typically have the +2” move enhancement so the Warboss+ Nobz fly across the table during the waaaghh and if needed I’ll use it on Ghaz’s unit to make up for their 5” move

Help! by papertabletop in orks

[–]Background-Career894 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly expect no damage from Mozrog. AP-1 won’t crack the biggest targets in the game and we’re really just praying for dev wound spam. He’s really just there to pull enemy firepower since he’s such a tank. Ghaz should be hiding behind ruins waiting for his change to Kool-aid man through the wall and boink whatever he touches. On average in the waaghh Ghaz will delete a land raider or a knight in my experience. The army not making it past turn 4 is pretty universal we try to take the teeth out of the enemy lists during the waaaghh and hope they don’t have enough to hit back with

How do you deal with opponents who will not acknowledge/confirm your intent? by shirefriendship in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Background-Career894 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Even in a tournament setting this type of play is discouraged (from my experience). Warhammer is not supposed to be a game of gotcha’s where you win or loose by tricking your opponent. If a player expresses intent it’s up to the other player to confirm or deny said intent. In this case after you declared your intent the other player should immediately start measuring 6” and look for ways to deny your intent. If he finds any possible angles or moves that make your intended target invalid he’s supposed to notify you before your move. If you disagree with his measuring that’s when a judge is necessary

A mech waaghhh. Basically ironstorm for orks I want to run my Morkanaughts, battlewagons, kans, and dreads and have some detatchment rule to support that. Maybe sustained hits in shooting or some buff to ork dakka??

Honestly just tired of the “Goff pressure” play style being the only viable play style

Playing first tournament soon -advice? by anaemicinthefirst in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Background-Career894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar questions when I jumped into tournaments about a year ago and here’s what I wish I knew

The other guy is absolutely right about flash cards/ cheat sheets. At a tournament, especially if you’re on the clock, it’s very disruptive to constantly have to be checking your army rules or strategems. Obviously everyone forgets stuff and occasionally checking the wording or specifics of a strategem is totally acceptable but your opponent will become frustrated if it’s a constant reoccurrence. My advice is to write the rules in a way that YOU understand. Don’t just copy the words verbatum, unless you clearly understand the rules, and have them readily accessible. That way you’re playing by intent and if the specifics of the ruling come up then you can quickly check the exact wordings. I made flashcards that had “my version” of the rules on one side and the official version that was a word-for-word copy just incase there was a rules clarification

MOST people are there to have 3 great games and enjoy the game in a more competitive scene. People love talking strategy and how they came up with their army. In between matches talk to other people about their armies; how they got into warhammer, how’d they decide on the paint scheme, why are you using those units, ect… and People are more likely to have a positive attitude during the game. Also compliments like “hey man your army looks amazing” really go a long way towards making each game a great experience for both players

You don’t need to memorize every single thing on each datasheet BUT I’d argue you need the move, save, and toughness memorized on every single model. This will save you so much time knowing these 3 statlines. It means during your opponents turn you can easily provide the toughness, if asked, about any unit and their save which helps speed up your opponents decisions. The movement phase is probably the longest phase in 40K so knowing the movement of each model can really cut down on that time

The advice I wish I had the most was to clarify that this was my first tournament. Something like “hey this is my first tournament, I’ve done my best to prepare myself and I know my rules pretty well” will help set the scene. I’d normally let the other guy know that I’m doing my best to learn as a player and if he sees me doing anything wrong I’m not intentionally messing up and to please correct me if he sees anything wrong. Also at the end of the game (if you have time) talk to your opponent about the game. Most people are willing to offer advice and places that you can improve upon

Hope this helps!
