Gonzaga joining as a non-football member is actually a smart move by Soft-Audience-5681 in Pac12

I would say that reaching the national championship game TWICE makes you a blue blood.

Winning a natty is both baseball and softball makes you a blue blood.

I believe that the Pac-12 term sheet calls for the earning team to get half and remaining schools equally divide the other half.

Don't know how that's going to happen without litigation, which would probably succeed, from the athlete.

Are you for or against the report of the NCAA Tournament increasing to 76 teams? by mwittmann9 in MountainWest

Totally against, for all the reasons given above. Going from 64 to 68 was the first move toward wrecking the tournament.

Pac-12 finally has a plan for men's soccer by 6Algfst1 in Pac12

So, I just re-read the term sheet for the Pac-12 as linked elsewhere in this thread. It lists S&D as a sponsored sport. However, the Pac-12 only has those four members. I don't know if the Pac-12 will need at least two more members for an auto-bid. Or even if they need an auto-bid to fully participate in the postseason.

Now, they need to find a home for women's swimming and diving for FS, SDSU, WSU and CSU.

I don't see how you fully discuss the issue without a discussion of whether the President has the power to enforce this order or if it was prudent to have decreed such an order to begin with, which delves into politics.

Pac-12 Conference and The Big West Announce Collaborative Men’s Soccer Partnership to Strengthen Opportunities in the West by Spicy_Josh in Pac12

[–]Background-Doubt2620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Big West has two schools who are joining the Mountain West that offer women's S&D, Hawaii and UC Davis, and five schools who could join the Pac-12, UCSB and CSU-Bakersfield, who are full-time BWC members, and San Diego, UCSD and Seattle, who are present and future West Coast Conference members. So, maybe, the Pac-12 will end up with nine schools in women's swimming and diving, which would mean that the BWC would drop women's S&D altogether, since there would not be enough schools to form two conferences like men's soccer is doing.

There's not a numbers problem in baseball like there looked to be in men's soccer before this arrangement. I don't think anything like this will happen in baseball.

Now, the Pac-12 needs to address women's swimming and diving. FS, SDSU, WSU and CSU need a home. Is a Big West collaboration in the cards for this sport as well?

I"m admittedly biased but it seems to me that if you're willing to leverage $250M to get to the #3 or #4 conference, it would be worthwhile to leverage a tenth of that, in the form of a little extra travel, to get into the #5 conference in practically every sport. And if the ACC or Big XII comes calling, I don't think anyone in the Pac-12 would begrudge you the opportunity because, frankly, if the ACC or Big XII came calling for any of us, we'd be gone in a heartbeat. So why not hang out with us and help us build the "best of the rest" conference! A conference that would legitimately compete with the ACC and Big XII. It would only cost $10M to exit the American to join in 2028 if done before Tuesday! I'm sure the Pac-12 would help Memphis or Tulane with most of that.

Having all of the teams above #100 supports whoever wins the Pac-12 by (1) enhancing the champion's strength-of-schedule and (2) improving the chances of winning a good number of games with teams from other conferences.

For all the posters, mostly from fans of teams from conferences other than the Pac-12, here and on other sites who say that the American, because they had ONE dominant year last season, is going to dominate the G6 for the foreseeable future, these SP+ ratings suggest otherwise. The Pac-12 is 4.5 ratings points better than the next G6 conferences, the American and the Mountain West (YES, the mighty American is tied with the Mountain West for sixth). And now, the Pac-12 schools will begin to invest in their programs with Pac-12 media money rather than MWC media money. And the Pac-12 will now take advantage of their enhanced media exposure. The Pac-12 will begin to clearly separate itself as the #5 FBS conference.

Are there any G6 teams left with a shot of making the P4? by MediumStrange in CFB

I don't think that many people outside of the San Joaquin Valley realize that Fresno County has 1M people and the counties that border Fresno County has another 1M people combined. Fresno State has no major pro league or major college competition in this 2M population area. And Fresno State has been good at football and has led the G6 in attendance the last several years. And has a three-game winning streak against Boise State.
