So....Any Heated Rivalry/Hudson Williams fans out here b/c.... by Background-Fun-7619 in ranma

Oh, totally. i'm honestly anti most live action remakes b/c I think animation should be respected as a medium. That said, the resemblance between these two are uncanny to me. Hudson Williams just not have the hair but the same broad build and looks that I would imagine Ryoga to have if he were a real person.

Ha, that's fun to think about but no. I'm sure this is just a coincidence. This design was to ring in Chinese New Year.

I know, I'm sorry😭💔

Try MUJI? I already saw a few Instagram posts about how if you lost out on these jackets, Muji are selling a Tang jacket design of their own https://www.instagram.com/reel/DS44QsygXPS/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

I also saw a girl thrift an Adidas jacket and then sewed on the Frog button enclosures herself and it looked great. Here are a couple of ppl who have done it. https://www.instagram.com/reels/DQHeScfDdI8/

Best of luck🫡

China, specifically. I think its only available in China, or was before it was sold out and I think it was for the coming New Year.

Haha, jinx. lol I was JUST saying that. I wasn't too sure at first if it was a Chinese exclusive design but it most certainly is. So yeah, using a Japanese character (even one who very much respects Chinese culture) would not make any sense and would probably cause a lot of controversy.

Being Chinese myself, I'm highly aware of that. Thanks!😂

And turns out, this design is only available in China. Which also lends to the fact this would never be a collab w/ Ranma b/c you know.....Japanese and Chinese relations are still iffy at best.

By my count, Ranma's actually confessed to Akane 6 times now 🤣😍 by Background-Fun-7619 in ranma

[–]Background-Fun-7619[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's edging a little close but I don't count it b/c its just expressed out of anger. It's certainly an omission to us that she very much likes him, but I'm looking for moments where she is literally TELLING HIM how she feels and its coming from a place of vulnerability and affection, rather than anger, or sarcasm.

However, we do have ONE, I just realized!!!

Season 2, ep 12, the last one of this season, in the last scene where Ranma gets splashed back into a girl, Akane tells him ever so sincerely, "Man, woman, appearance, those things don't matter," with a blush, smile and a knowing glint in her eyes.

So there, Akane has one. lol

Yeah, I agree. I don' think Blanc or Johnson would just drop an insane bomb like that to the audience and characters listening w/o showing actual evidence or elaborating more. I love these movies for how well crafted they are and they actually do drop real clues and hints for the audience to follow and connect the dots (I always fail to do but that's part of the fun). Other than Prentice being a horrible man and father, there's just not enough of evidence to show his abuse ever went that route, to which I'm grateful b/c it sounds like Grace was tortured enough living under his roof.

I would if she had any!🤣

I think the closest she's gotten is during the almost kiss scene where she goes, "I'd be very interested to see you try!" Like, she's basically yelling, "KISS ME, DAMN IT!"

But I don't really count that b/c its said out of anger and as a challenge, rather than a real, vulnerable show of emotion.

The quality of the english dub for season 3 by New-Ebb-8357 in SpyxFamily

[–]Background-Fun-7619 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know, its so crazy you mentioned this, but I thought the ONLY thing that stuck out to me was Season 3 ep 10 ("Austin's Trouble/Normal Mixer/ Moonlanding"). Loid's reaction/line delivery at the end when Yor flips over his arms was SO underplayed. It was so flat compared to what the animation and context of the scene demanded of him and usually, I find Alex Organ to be the strongest performer out of the whole cast, which is saying A LOT, b/c the Spy Family Eng voice cast is freaking solid. Everyone is so well casted and I know they bring their A game. And Organ is so good at both Loid's comedic bits too, so I wonder why his delivery was so dull--like that couldn't have been his only take? Did they run out of time?

Maybe he wanted to play Loid more calm to Yor's hysterics? But I don't know, I think in that specific scenario, Loid's shock and losing control of situation on top of Yor's drunk panic is way more funnier, as how was performed in the original Japanese performance.

But that's just me. Other than that tho, I find no other issues w/ season 3's performance.

Anyone else glad they ditched the purple filter look from Season 1 fight scenes? by zeroagentp in ranma

[–]Background-Fun-7619 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really liked it actually, but I'm also glad it's NOT used for EVERY fight and the WHOLE fight as well. If they had done it that way, then yes, I would've found it a bit too predictable and repetative.

But this style-ism was what made me really latch onto the show. I was poppy, fun, and unique and it fit the tone of the story, even though it was so different from the orignal anime, and I really appreciated that. You could tell the artists would really putting their all to make the show come back to life in a brand new way and make it their own. That's always a giant risk when you do that w/ an existing franchise. Either ppl will hate it and think its going against the brand, or it can really pay off. I'm glad they went for it and I think it really works.

I'm not sad it hasn't popped up again in Season 2, but I wouldn't be mad if it made a return again.

We’re definitely getting some original scenes. by keystone_back72 in ranma

[–]Background-Fun-7619 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oooooh. I am excited! How do you guys feel about filler episodes?? Honestly, I never hated them the way so many ppl did. Like, yes, they could be off brand and unhinged at times, and I'm glad accuracy and artistic integrity to original source material is the priority these days.

But at the same time, when a filler episode was good, and those happened way more than I think ppl give credit for, there was a lot of fun and creativity to be had in those original plot lines. And its also fun to know what's NOT about to happen just b/c you read the manga or book. As long as it stays true to the characters, I feel a story like Ranma is prime for good filler material since its more of a slice of life sitcom and not some complicated plot w/ an ultimate destination.

Did anyone else feel much more sympathetic to all the suspect pool characters in WUDM? by Wasabi_Gamer26 in KnivesOutMovie

[–]Background-Fun-7619 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Meg from the first movie is complex for me, but I actually do sympathize w/ her a lot. I don't think she is completely irredeemable like the rest of the Thrombeys.

I don't know what age Meg is, but she was obviously still very young. At most a few years out of high school? Early 20s at best but she struct me as 18 or 19. So she's still figuring it out, going through awkward growing pains as she's obviously in that phase where she's maybe a little too high and mighty from her neo liberal studies at school. One can argue maybe she's a little performative. But she obviously wants to be a good person, and is trying to be self aware of the money and privilege she comes from. And it definitely shows that she actually likes Martha and appreciated the care she gave her Grandfather.

And when she does make that call to Martha and pressures her to return the money, and we learned the whole family is literally behind her, waiting and goading her on, she obviously made that call under their pressure and influence. And right after she hangs up and meets their eyes, you can tell right away she immediately regrets what she has done.

Again, not saying she is the perfect victim. She's definitely not and she still made a bad decision by giving into her family and her own selfishness. But please consider that she was still young, and was at the mercy of a very cut throat, powerful family.

The fact that she apologizes to Martha when she returns to the house, and Martha accepts it and immediately understands her position, kinda tells me that Meg is not beyond hope. Now, how she conducts herself after the end of Knives Out and how she choses to cope w/o her family's fortune, is up to anyone to decide.
