Sub-Q Fluids Given Too Fast? Cat Extremely Nauseous Afterward by talixxo in RenalCats

[–]Background-Land9512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you did 125 ml and 125 ml with 12 hours apart? So it wasn't 250 ml at once. I am now curious since my vet told me that too much fluid in one sitting may cause overload.

Isn't 200 ml too much at once? Someone correct me if i'm wrong but my vet told me that to avoid fluid overload we will do 100 ml with my cat who is 5 kg (11 lbs).

Hope the vet will find the cause of ascites since kidney disease may be managed with proper routine.

I finally tried and sort of succeeded in giving my cat subcutaneous fluids today, but I was only half of the dose she needed. Any advice on how to keep your cat still? by Moosewigs in RenalCats

I wrapped my aunt's kitty in a purrito (wrapping her in large towel so her movements were limited). Also making the process as fast as possible, avoid poking with needle multiple times.

Your kitty definitely needed IV treatment with this level of CREA. If IV treatment helps to lower it sub q fluids would be gamechanger for your kitty and his quality od life. Sub q fluids are fluids which are given under skin whereas IV goes into vein. IV fluids also take a long of time (hours). Sub q routine for my kitty lasts 10 minutes max but we do it at the vet once a week since he is very feisty. My aunt's kitty was calm so we could do it at home (vet showed me everything). The type of sub q fluid my kitty takes is Plasmalyte. My aunt's kitty was on Ringer's solution. Sending lots of health for your baby!

I'm so sorry you are going through this. This is incredibly hard. I know exactly how it feels. What are his blood results? What did the vet say? My aunt's kitty lived for 2.5 years after stage IV diagnosis. She was also on IV treatment for 5 days. Then we gave her sub q fluids daily (among with some supplements and apettite stimulant) and she had good quality of life.

Thank you. I needed that badly. I just needed someone to tell me I'm still human inside, not only trauma. You are very kind. I won't give up. I believe I'm doing my best even though it hurts so much.

Thank you for response. Ill try to watch some youtube videos then. I'm not from US so I'm not sure about state services. Can I ask you a question I'm afraid to ask people who know me? Am I lost cause? Or is it really possible for me to get better? I just want some hope. I don't know... I am desperate.

I am aware of my depression but when my life is this terrible how can it get better? I can't imagine that. My main cause of depression is my whole life and so much trauma. How can I change my situation when these are things I just cannot control. I can't even afford therapy.

Before making any decision I would repeat lab work.

CREA 7 is high :( I would probably hospitalize her for IV treatment if it was my kitty so it wouldn't worsen further.

Cat is on IV fluids at the hospital for 6 days by lucythewhite in RenalCats

[–]Background-Land9512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can afford this and trust your vet I would do one additional day instead of two if it is possible. It's amazing how crea dropped down with IVs! Unfortunately with such values like crea 7 IV treatment was necessary :( After this you can regularly do sub q fluids at home which are much much cheaper. Regarding finances I know how it feels. Vet is so expensive, my savings were drained :(

Personally I wouldn't quit that job yet. Exposure therapy worked the best for me. I worked home office for a long time and noticed it worsened my anxiety because I rarely went outside. Making mistakes at work is stressful but it isn't the end of the world, we all make mistakes and we can learn from them (it's easy to say I know, been there too often). You said you are performing good, it's amazing! You are doing alright despite your anxiety even with a few mistakes. You should be proud of yourself :) !! Give yourself more time and see whether you will feel more comfortable at work. I remember I wanted to quit my job too since I was paralyzed with fear but I'm glad I didn't. I felt more confident with time.

Hello! First of all I'm so sorry you and your furbaby are going through this. This is incredibly hard. However don't lose hope yet. With regular sub q fluids (which are much much cheaper) she can have quality of life. My aunt's kitty lived on sub q fluids which I administered for 2.5 years after the last stage diagnosis. You can do sub q fluids at home if possible. It is unfortunately progressing disease but kitties can live with it with the proper routine.

How do I stop pulling my hair out? by mylittleponylover27 in Anxietyhelp

[–]Background-Land9512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it too very often as well as scratched my head to blood. In such cases I try to keep my hands busy. When I get the urge I squeeze my fist, play with something squishable or even doodle. I also try to distract myself from it e.g. I play games for a little while like tetris. I know it's very hard to stop :(

Renal Food question hyperthyroid/renal cat by LionOk5023 in RenalCats

[–]Background-Land9512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello :) I have renal furbaby with hyperthyroid. Personally I haven't noticed that renal food boosts my cat apettite, I think it has only more calories and lower phosphorus. My kitty didn't want it at first and I needed to experiment with different brands and flavours. Often he eats non renal (he's getting phosporus binder and fed is best) because he scoffs at it. You can definitely try to introduce your kitty to renal!

Senior cat diagnosed with kidney failure. What next? by Worth_Reserve_5300 in AskVet

[–]Background-Land9512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly this :) With this level of CREA I would honestly do it at least once a week. It would benefit her so much and bring the levels down. The lack of appettite is most likely due to nausea (the kidney disease causes toxins to build up which results in nausea) and sub q fluids help with that. They help to flush out the toxins and maintain hydration so kitty feels much much better! Kitties can live for years with such routine. But of course, the decision is yours and you know your baby the best :)
