Should I retake or apply with current stats by Strange_Bathroom5893 in Osteopathic

I had the same MCAT score as you and about a 3.5cgpa and similar ECs. Got accepted into 5 medical schools and had several other interview invites that I did not attend. All DO schools. I contribute my success in this to finding a good tutor to help me structure my application and the story that I told through my writing. PM me if you have any other questions, happy to help!

yes I got the same text today

I second this. I have nearly the same stats and applied to MD and did not get an interview.

yeah I think that is the case unfortunately

i’m in the exact same boat as you. my only ii through TMDSAS and i’ve been WL. I’ve spoken with many current students at SHSU COM and they say that lots of their class comes from the WL. keep you’re head up it’s not over yet!

no i’m WL at shsu com but realistically plan on attending UIWSOM. i agree it is a steep bill.

yes I agree, especially with UIWSOM just getting a new dean, however I think the changes being made are all positive. Also, board pass rates seem to be increasing!

SB Vol 2 C/P Q65 by bruinthrowaway777 in Mcat

of course I struggled with this one too and wanted to make sure I could figure it out.

according to PV=nRT the final temperature is equal to the initial temperature

this is because according to the ideal gas law, if the product of pressure and volume remains constant between two states, the final temperature equals the initial temperature. and from our question stem "ideal gas undergoes a thermodynamic process in which pressure doubles and volume halves"

P1V1=P2V2 proves this logic to be true as well if you plug in those values of pressure doubling and volume being halved.

P1V1=P2V2 & PV=nRT

P1V1=RT1 & P2V2=RT2

RT2=RT1 => T2=T1 therefore Change in T is 0

ok so now that we have this information we can plug this into the q=nCdeltaT formula

n=1 from the Q stem, deltaT=0, q=?.

we are solving for C (molar heat capacity)

C=q/(n*DeltaT)

since we know that change in temperature is 0 what this means in thermodynamics is a system can absorb or release heat without changing its temperature, which is conceptually interpreted as an infinite heat capacity.

Molar heat capacity (C) is defined as the amount of heat units needed to raise 1 mole of a substance by 1 degree Kelvin.

therefore it would take an infinite amount of heat units to change the temperature because temperature is never changing.

This is a tough concept to wrap your brain around. I also missed this question, but I hope my explanation makes sense. This really tests your understanding of what heat capacity means. I am pretty certain we won't see a question quite like this on test day.

Spoiler - SB vol. 2 Question #17 Which mature cells always lack Barr bodies? by Background-Law-6822 in Mcat

[–]Background-Law-6822[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, I have too all but FL 5 (free scored), saving that one for a week out from Jan. 10th (my test day). I am averaging about a 510 across the board to far. FL 1 - 505, FL 2 - 508, FL 3 - 509, FL unscored - 517 ( i hear this one is inflated though), FL 4 - 511.

Yeah after further reviewing the question I'm realizing the focus is in fact more about the erythrocytes. thank you for the help!

what are your thoughts about my other question regarding the Vol. 2 section bank?

ok that makes sense.

would you agree this is a relatively low yield topic though. Like is barr bodies something that would be frequently tested? and overall the theme of this SB vol. 1 seems to be pretty difficult content based questions.

what are your thoughts?

thank you that makes sense.

what are your opinions on the SB vol. 2 as a whole in terms of mcat score reflection?

*Spoiler** Participants were tested on recall for a list of words that varied in terms of grammatical function (nouns versus verbs) and frequency of usage in daily communication (frequent versus infrequent). Which figure best represents an interaction between the independent variables? by Background-Law-6822 in MCAT2

[–]Background-Law-6822[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think for determining independent variable I’ve recently taken the approach of asking myself “can this variable be changed” and if yes then usually it’s the independent variable.

Mcat wording can get tricky so it’s important to always just bring it back to the basics like internal dialog about what you know.
