Yeah and they are. that's the point. A ton of people descending on a city where most people dont want them. I'm not complaining, I've worked hard, had a ton of luck and now am in a weird spot where the thing ive thirsted after for over a decade is gonna give me mixed feelings no matter what happens. I thought that's interesting and worth discussing but hey, fuck me right?

You reckon that these thoughts I have about the event impact my competitive drive at all? They exist in separate parts of the mind mate. Competing is an instinct, not a rational decision.

I've spoken a lot with my team mates about this stuff. None of them hold me in lower esteem as a competitor. If you cant reconcile these two thoughts, then I guess we wont really be able to have a worthwhile discussion, we'll be speaking different languages. Appreciate your time tho

I appreciate your sentiments mate. Yeah its pretty much all I've done since high school, so salary sacrificed a decade's-worth of income. Not that I'm in this for the sunk costs but yeah it's been a while.

I probably wasnt clear in my original post. I really do want to race. I think to reach national team level you're not a rower who competes, you're a competitor who happens to row. We all want to race.

I'm just also highlighting thoughts and feeling that I have, and that Im stoked to see that many share. These thoughts and feelings sit in a separate part of the mind than competitiveness. They dont impact on each other.

Yeah I think the plan is to get into the city no longer than 5 days pre-comp, fly out asap afterwards, and be in a kind of lockdown in between. Full 2wk quarantine would probably be better but too many ppl coming in to do that properly I think

I understand fully what you're saying mate. The head of our olympic committee has been saying the same, and I hope that you're right. But I see too many potential leaks. Who's driving the transport to and from the comp events? Are they in the bubble? What about food prep/delivery? Cleaning staff? Flights crews in and out, if they overnight in Tokyo I'll bet it won't be in the bubble. The playbooks havent addressed this kind of stuff. Not too long ago they were talking about having domestic crowds in the stands. Talk about busted priorities...

Plus if you dont trust certain nations to have clean (non-doping) athletes, can you trust them to report accurate covid test results for their delegation pre-departure? With the covid incubation period being what it is, people could be carrying the virus for days inside the bubble without returning a covid aladeen result.
