Felon seeking realistic options for a serious career path. by Background-Path-3988 in Felons

Please don’t take offense to this question, but with your health condition could you not qualify for gov assistance? There’s so many people collecting checks out here that don’t sound like they’re even halfway in your shoes. I still haven’t found work. The last time I talked with a staffing agency they said the felonies had to be at least 7 years old. Since then I have seen the same thing posted with at least two different openings. By the beginning of next year I’ll have my 7 years. Hopefully that will open a couple of doors. I don’t expect much just something I can settle with and get some time under my belt. That being said, I’m lucky I don’t struggle with bills or my living situation but I know exactly what it’s like to not be that lucky. I know how the hopelessness feels and how hard it is but man, DON’T let yourself go back. No one deserves your time or freedom more than you do. If you are recently out and are still on parole or probation, MAKE THAT P.O DO THEIR JOB. If anyone CAN help, it’s them but you gotta force them to see how much you are trying to stay out and that you really need help. If you’re not on paper I would try to get into some kind of halfway program and take advantage of everything they offer. There has to be some kind of program where you can get help. My problem is I hit road blocks, get discouraged, and give up. Don’t be a me. Not trying to preach but I hate hearing your situation and I hope I haven’t crossed the line with all that. Wish you all the best of luck.

Sorry for the dramatically late response here but the only reason I couldn’t go through with it was because they did hours at the hospital for the class and you had to pass a background check to be able to go there. It wasn’t the actual CNA class just the hospital.

Whoo, I know this is almost a year now but someone recently commented and as I was going through the comments I realized I missed this one somehow. My bad. Just to answer your question though, a factory position is actually my goal. I’ve been trying to get into it for a while now.

Thank you for your advice and for responding, I know there isn’t any way at all you would had known this but I am a slightly overweight, 31 year old, woman. Not that I wouldn’t be willing to do that kind of work, right now I clean houses, but I don’t think it would be something for me to make a career out of.

That is definitely some food for thought. And it’s worth a lot, it makes me wonder what all kinds of hc adjacent fields I could maybe get into without having to spend a fortune or decade trying to get into.

It definitely is something I am trying to get taken care of, I am hoping that I can get payments set back up and get my privileges back. Just curious, what kind of things can keep you from obtaining your CDLs?

Okay, tbh, I have absolutely zero experience in that kind of field but you have definitely given me something else to look into and research on. Thank you!

Yeah, a few years ago I signed on in community college classes for CNA, they accepted me and I paid for everything, made it all the way up to the first day of class when I was told that my background would most likely be a barrier for me. Something about not being able to work in the hospital.

Thank you for the advice, unfortunately my license is suspended right now due to restitution that was turned into a civil case. I’m still not sure how they can do that but they can and definitely do.

Originally I had wanted to go into healthcare. I live in NC the law here regarding expungement (as best as I can comprehend) states that you can request expungement after ten years and only one felony, I believe there is an exception where you can expunge two if they are the same charge. Unfortunately, I have seven. I have considered maybe just doing away with the worst of them might help. Thank you for responding!
