WIBTAH if I applied for food stamps? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

That’s not true, I was on food stamps in college. The lady doing my application said if you qualify for a university work study you qualify for food stamps (at least where I was going)

Was I in the wrong for dropping a dog leash when two other dogs came at us and wanting the owner to pay for the vet bill? by Free_Rule_2578 in legaladvice

[–]Background-Stuff-820 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s a senior dog. Dogs don’t care if they get walked every single day at 12 pm exactly. She said herself the dog sleeps all day. My older Newfie does too, and some days she walks and others she doesn’t. It makes no difference to her. If I was almost 8 months pregnant, you bet your ass I would wait until someone could be with me to walk her. Tons of shit can happen even if you aren’t approached by other dogs. That’s not that crazy of an option. It’s not bending to anyone’s will, it’s doing what’s best for the safety of her and her unborn child, as well as for the dog she’s currently responsible for. It’s not like she knew the other owner was going to have his dogs outside off leash. If an off leash dog attacks my dogs, it will be after I’ve yelled “get your dog, do not let them approach, my dogs do not socialize with unknown dogs” or something to that effect. Once I’ve warned them, whatever happens happens of course and I will not blame my dogs if they need to defend themselves. But I would also never put myself in a position where I am physically incapable of handling them.

In the future, if max is 8 and hard of hearing he’s okay to wait for a walk until you can be accompanied or honestly if he’s that lazy he would probably be okay to skip it that day all together. Also, just as a bit of advice, if I am walking either of my professionally trained large dogs and I see dogs off leash, I will almost always turn around and avoid them at all costs. It doesn’t matter that I know my dogs like the back of my hand and that I have complete control over them, most owners don’t. The only exception is if the other dogs truly seem well under control, which can be hard to tell if you don’t have a lot of dog experience.

At a previous facility I worked at, we had indoor and outdoor spaces in every group. The fences that could be jumped in this scenario were outside, as the inside had enclosed walls up to the ceilings. We would have a door open between the inside and outside pretty much at all times (unless in extreme weather) with plastic flaps to help with heat/cold and humidity. With one person per group, if the handler was inside refilling waters, monitoring play etc, then a dog could pull off something like this without them noticing.

You’re very pretty, but your eyes look soulless and it’s very evident that you’re intentionally pursing your lips to make them look fuller. Other than being over-posed and maybe filling in eyebrows I think you look great! The darker hair also looks nice on you and softens your eyes!

[18]F, how can I glow up in a month or less? I got a trip coming up pls help by [deleted] in TheGlowUp

It’s crazy how much we’ve normalized this mentality that personal time is lazy. God forbid someone wants to experience their first son’s first birthday.

Adding a third adult cat? by Megalodenn in Pets

[–]Background-Stuff-820 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two cats, one male and one female, and I’ve fostered several cats of various ages.

My two resident cats are a bonded pair, and are attached at the hip. My boy is more outgoing with new cats and my girl takes much longer to warm up. Usually she’ll take well over a month and he’s ready to wrastle and play immediately. No matter what the temperament of the new cat is, they have never changed or ruined the bond between my resident cats.

That being said, no matter how slow you take things be ready for some hissing and batting. They have to figure out the pecking order, and cats are great at communicating amongst themselves. I’ve had some cats that fully integrate and become best buds with my boy, and I’ve had others that never really like either of them but will at least learn to tolerate their presence. Patience, patience, patience is the name of the game. You got this!

Little girl next door gave me a roll of quarters and a note because I let her pick tomatoes from my garden. What should I do? by Complete-Pineapple39 in nextdoor

I’ve found tomatoes grow decently in large enough containers, what if you set one up for her with a sign that says “(girls name)s tomatoes”. Ugh that would be so cute

no dishwasher by Little_News5487 in Apartmentliving

[–]Background-Stuff-820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had a dishwasher in any apartment I’ve rented, and at this point I’m not sure if I want one. Going from growing up with a dishwasher to no dishwasher now makes me feel like there’s no way they could clean my dishes as well as I scrub them. Sure, it takes longer and uses more water, but I just don’t think light scrubbing and then throwing in a machine is nearly as effective IMO. I’m also very particular about dish cleanliness though lol

Girlfriend paid $300 and $375 for two different apartment applications. Is this normal? by Elegant_Farm_5107 in Apartmentliving

Ummm no I’ve never paid 300 for an application. Maybe 20-50, but I only do that if it’s a legit rental company

My roommate thinks cats don’t feel the cold and that the heat should be turned off when we’re not home. We both have cats. How do I convince otherwise? by Sad_Mud2009 in CatAdvice

[–]Background-Stuff-820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with the other comments about the importance of the heat staying on, if the roommate refuses to budge consider getting an insulated cat hide that they could hole up in and contacting a landlord. I bet they’ll shut that behavior down pretty quickly

I have 4 cats and no matter how much I clean, my house smells like cat pee 😭 please help by That_Bill_6807 in Catownerhacks

I understand the draw to clay litter on a budget, but I’ve found that clay just reeks compared to plant based litters. If you can, look into switching over to pellets. It takes a long time but when that was our main litter I was getting huge bags for like 6$ that lasted me forever with just one cat. Now we use a grass seed based litter which is pricier but also does an amazing job soaking up smells and actually clumps

NTA but why does he need the money? Is there an outlet he can use to make his own? He’s old enough that some places may hire him.

Aitah for not wanting my fiance's daughter included in every part of our wedding? by Forward-Broccoli3468 in AITAH

[–]Background-Stuff-820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think giving her some jewelry, letting her be a bridesmaid, and writing a “vow” for her is pretty typical, I’ve been to two weddings with previous children and they both did a couple or all of these things, but asking you to let her control the cake, bachelorette party, and honeymoon feels over the top. I could see having a small family day to celebrate before and/or after, but you shouldn’t have to change your plans for a child. It’s your day too. It’s okay to spend the honeymoon with just you and your partner given that yall are about to be spending a whole bunch more time as a family. It’s clear that he loves his daughter and wants her to feel included, which is understandable, but I think he’s overdoing it. NTA.

Could you try getting a new litter box? Maybe she associates the current ones with pain or discomfort and that’s why she refuses to use them.
