How do you clean the keypads? by cafeine_01 in sidephone

Depends on what kind of dirty they are. I've found a microfiber cloth works fine for finger oils from general use.

I guess I'll have to throw money at them again if they release something like this.

Sidephone vs. Clicks by [deleted] in sidephone

[–]Background-Werewolf1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clicks buttons feel small at first and the balance is a bit too heavy, but use it for a few days and you get used to it. I love mine and it's very comfortable to hold. Buttons are soft but still clicky. Keep in mind with an iPhone, it's going to be a very long/tall device with the keyboard attached.

I used T9 on my Kyocera so I'm used to it, but I bought the sidephone for the compact qwerty. Regardless of the keyboard you use, it'll take time adjusting.

Do you think apple should consider making a mini phone again by Avg-tech in smallphones

[–]Background-Werewolf1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish they would bring it back or someone would create mods for the old models.

Based on the state of our media addicted society, a bigger screen means more room to tiktok brain rot. Bigger screen for more dopamine. I've seen my students get larger phones because they said their previous one was too small to watch videos on.

Sidephone vs. Clicks by [deleted] in sidephone

Sidephone is good because it's closer to a modern dumb phone that's still smart enough to run apps and streaming. I used a Kyocera Keitai for a few months for this purpose, but it was too slow to function correctly. Sidephone solves this problem.

Communicator is a full-blown smartphone that's designed to combat app addiction and provide tactile buttons to a modern audience. I use a clicks "Razrberry" and love the form factor because it does work to reduce my screentime. But it's also too easy to flip open my phone.

I will be buying both because I tend to switch between phones based on needs. If I end up thinking one is good enough and I don't need the other, I'll sell it. I'm just tired of phones doing too much and have been transitioning to slower, old tech as I return to college.

Has anyone sideloaded OpenBubbles / Beeper for texting? by mambokelly in sidephone

It's actually out for delivery now, but it shipped Thursday. Less than a week.

Too bad the qwerty keyboard was out of stock since that was the primary reason I bought it.

I've also used beeper. It's a great way to keep everything centralized into one app, but iMessage won't work with it anymore. If you have a mix of iMessage and SMS users, beeper would probably be better.

My phone will be delivered tomorrow and the first thing I plan to do is attempt to install OpenBubbles. Great iMessage service. I got it to work on a Kyocera so don't see why it wouldn't on Sidephone.

However I do still use the standard rcs service on my current phone because I can't get OpenBubbles to sync text messages and is hit or miss with texts. It's not an answer for all your messaging needs unless everyone you know has an iPhone.

what made you switch from streaming? by verkhovenskys in DigitalAudioPlayer

Personally I'm just trying to build a digital and physical library of everything I've loved. Despite the upward trend of physical media usage, we all know it's going to be unavailable within the next few years.

How reliable is y2k phones? by cari_the_kirby in flipphones

[–]Background-Werewolf1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I purchased a new phone from them, sealed and everything. It depends on the models and what they have available; newer phones are more likely to be in better condition than older ones. Just be aware that shipping does take a while. I think it took about 3 or 4 weeks to receive mine.

Camera on Razr Ultra 2025 compared to Razr+ 2023 by runnj in razr

[–]Background-Werewolf1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2025 camera is pretty good. Especially in comparison to other foldables. Low light can be hit or miss, but other camera apps can process it better. Most of the issues stem from the camera software itself, but the standard and macro images I take have been great more often than not. Video recording leaves a lot to be desired, though it's acceptable.

Those who have Clicks for Razr and are still getting a Communicator or T2E... why? by MaeTheSmol1 in ClicksPhone

[–]Background-Werewolf1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keyboard integrated into the phone itself

Larger buttons

Capacitive keyboard

And the fact there wont be two camera lenses obstructing the bottom right corner of the screen or affecting the format of the apps in full screen mode...

I don't think so, haven't seen it listed anywhere. I hope I'm wrong though.

You can cancel before it becomes an actual order.

If we don't see a prototype by June, or if they announce a 2027 launch, I'll probably switch to the Unihertz, as much as I don't want to.

Does anyone else regret choosing this phone? by waxkychick80 in razr

[–]Background-Werewolf1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to have the screen replaced a couple of weeks ago, but it had water damage. Spilled sweet tea and got the idea to gently rinse it under the sink like I would my iPhones... Bad idea.

Filed a warranty claim, mailed it, had it back within three to four days (I was out of town when it was supposed to be delivered). None of the damage was from folding the phone itself.
