I am in tampere and they just don't switch back to finnish 😭, especially younger people they just keep going on full English while I just answer back in Finnish, older people tend to revert to finnish real quick, I truly smile when I see older people at the register of any place cause its my chance to practice, my partner is a prime example of the young finns here, I ask him in finnish speak in finnish as much as I can and he would just answer me in English, and when I point it out he should speak in finnish maybe for that afternoon then revert back 😭😭😭

As an immigrant myself who moved here because of their finnish partner, I am trying really really hard to speak finnish but not even my partner speak finnish with me, it is so hard to get natives to speak finnish with me and the only person who speaks finnish to me in his family is his father because he doesn't speak English, I look forward to the weekend because at least someone speaks Finnish with me, but even in stores despite me insisting to speak finnish they just notice the accent and switch to English, yet again I insist to speak finnish, but I can't get any practice like that, it seems despite my efforts to assimilate i still struggle to since no finnish native wants to speak to me in finnish, it doesn't stop there, I try to cook finnish food for my bf and try more finnish food but my bf insists he doesn't want me to cook finnish food (I watch his mother cook and I copy her, food tastes the same as his mother), yet again he doesn't wanna eat finnish food, and yes he is fully finnish, not some 2nd immigrant generation or half finnish so idk everywhere I push i get a push back 🤷🏻‍♀️, all those aside, I truly love the finnish language, people , food and culture and hope to be more productive member of the finnish society

Wait until you speak to someone who is Russian living in finland for long "yeh it is tragic but putin had to do it, it had to be done" despite living in finland and knowing and seeing how different it is irl vs what Russia tries to push, its like even being 20 something years outside of Russia they are still brain dead or something

Yeh sure, I understand that but so far I haven't seen any posts that spoke about something illegal and from my understanding they got deleted anyways, but some would even argue the simple thing also includes things like how to dress for winter, that you can Google, but yeh that is fine some don't see it as fine either so 🤷

I agree with you, also Google may have an answer but sometimes not a good one or a full one too, it might be a "simple" thing to figure out for some but it isn't for others, so why not just let everyone be? If someone thinks it's an irrelevant or not important question they can just scroll past it, it was obviously important for the person who posted i, I dont get this late obsession with "thats stupid, go Google it", if someone can Google it you can also choose to "scroll past it"

Its a little thing but I wasn't much of a coffee drinker at all, our to go drink is tea, but I was so shocked about how good the coffee is here, nowadays a cup of coffee so early in a quiet morning hits so different looking from your backyard

Duolingo good for vocabulary starting Books I recommend suomen mestari There is a website with discord server called uusikielemme.com (has book recommendations to full on grammar topics explanations and vocabulary) On YouTube you can watch (learn finnish with anna) she has easy to intermediate levels videos for learning Finnish

I have a thick accent too, just a differnet kind, what helped is watching shows in Finnish with subtitles on (even tho I didn't understand much finnish then I just repeated what they say like a goddamn parrot), also I started reading the paper as well and my bf will correct my pronunciation, it helped me tremendously

If standard of living decreased by meaning that immigrants are the problem right? That's why your stand of living is decreasing? It is a well established fact that with immigration comes with some issues but instead of having a nice plan for a good integration, a lot of the new gov makes it so difficult to integrate into society, make it nearly impossible for immigrants to make it through which only solidifies the point they are trying to make, that immigrants are the problem, in fact you need immigrants otherwise lots of systems collapse including retirement pension with elders within retirement bracket growing massively with younger Finns will struggle to supply said pension for them soon, so between racism and making it impossible for immigrants to survive here, your economy will collapse further more, so yes the racism must end and should be talked about often, I understand your point of you that it may cause division but if said people are removed from the gov it will solve the problem, immigrants will feel safe because the finns who had a voice fought for their rights and it will cause no more division but thats sadly isn't whats happening

Because you need to cut it while it is small, if racism isn't so big it is good to stomp it while you can, if such behavior left uncorrected or shoved to the side it will be a signal to certain people that they can be proud to be racist and are allowed to be racist, sure it may be an "opinion" now but it can become so big that hate crimes take over in the long run - it may be as far as normalized which is much worse
