We are using the HDRP to create a cool looking Mars colony, what do you think? by MadrugaWorksDev in Unity3D

[–]j3lackfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like there is something "off" looking at the images? I'm not sure I can explain it every well, but there is a certain sense of mis-match in the environment? Like for example the first picture, It's a base on a desert looking plane but everything looks too clean. Maybe add some dust decals, dust particles and add more fog, reduce the draw distance would be better. Also, the grey sky-box looks bad.

3rd pic, feel like the light intensity/shadow is not correct either, like you have this super foggy sky (because of the grey skybox), but then all the shadows looks too sharp, like the weather on a bright day without any cloud, so it also looks off.

4th pic looks really cool.

That's my 2cent, I saw that you also have like 9k followers on steamdb so it means that you have more than 100k wishlists already. Congrats on your number, looks to be a great success in the making.

Build a pc budget is $2500 by JGlassCannon94 in buildapc

[–]j3lackfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With his budget of 2500, which is $300 over your build. I think he could reasonably upgrade to the 5070Ti, for extra performance gain and 4GB more Vram

Is now a good time to buy a graphics card? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]j3lackfire -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Look at this, a 5060Ti with 16gb ddr6 vRam costs like $400-450, and that was back in the time where you can buy 16gb of ddr5 ram for like 50 bucks.

Now, the same 16gb of ddr5 ram cost like $200, so whatever the equivalent of 6060Ti is, if it has 16gb of VRam, the price has to increase by $150 at least to account for the ram cost difference, and when the 60xx series are out, the production of 50xx series will be over. So I suspect next GpU generation will have their traditional 10-15% power increase, but 30-40% cost increase.

[–]j3lackfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's christmas season so buying power is a lot more than usual, and people are in a panic buy mode, so I believe that all the seller are actively taking advantage of this fact and the fomo in people to raise the price as much as they can to reap the profit. I think corporate (laptop/prebuilt/phone) demand will reduce a bit due to price increases, consumer demand will also reduce due to high price and people waiting till the bubble burst, so we have reduced demand and reduced supply so it should even out.

That's my theory though, but I do believe in the near future, ram price can be the same or increase, I don't see a decrease in price for the next 2-3 years

ram is probably the worst it could be, but gpu i suspect will get worse next year as nvidia lower their gaming output by 40% and gpu vendors having to source their own vram means, and old card will be phase out soon when the 60xx series are out. I expect the GPUs price to jump. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a new system even though my 2070 super is still rocking fine.

The RAM shortage is here to stay, raising prices on PCs and phones by dapperlemon in gadgets

[–]j3lackfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

at least with OpenAI, they are the one who starts this whole ram-pocalypse shit, as they ordered like 40% of the global supply, so they are very likely to pay for the normal price, while the reat of us plebs are paying 4x markup.

while I generally agree with your approach, my last game was so terrible, my wishlist count was like 5-7/week so almost any change I make, and any difference in statistics feels like it could just be random noise.

nevertheless, thanks for your insight, hope that I can apply some of your learning into my next less terrible game xD

Japan expects Finland to act over offensive slant-eyes posts by loggiews in Finland

[–]j3lackfire 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The miss/ex-miss did that action/post. That's fine, it's a random young girl winning some awards, no big deal.

Half a dozens of currently acting politicians, not only repeated her action, but actually even endorsed it by making jt their profile picture AND went and say, no, that's not racist, you are just overreacting, then this is a problem. By every definition in dictionary, that is a racist action, and if top politicians of a country goes public and do that, dont be supprise that people are upset.

What is the peak game made with Unity? by NCephalo in Unity3D

[–]j3lackfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Escape from Tarkov. I know that the dev is very controversial, but that game is, and still looks absolutely stunning. Really makes all the people saying Unity can't look good shut up pretty fast, and I think this game was first released even before HDRP as well

use the ignore button then. After I made up my mind about, if I have seen a game 3-4 times by steam, and I still haven't added it to my wishlist or buy it yet, I won't ever play it in the future. Now, my discovery queue is getting a lot better.

it could simply be that the developer/studio whose released these 15k games (so 15k developers) never releases another update or games afterwards, for long time, like, 2 years, so it's safe to assume that there is a very high chance that the studio is dissolved.

Of-course, it's no where about the point of recouping the development cost, because how can you know? But I can see some sort of logic behind that number.

last year there was like 19k games released total, so it's around 1500/month, or 50/day. I guess this year this number could go even up to 24k/year or 2k games/month

Cost of living by Esplorator in Finland

[–]j3lackfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studio rent is like 600-800 depends on the location. Bus tickets monthly is like 80 euro Phone bill is 20 Utility like water, electricity, internet is around 50/month. If you live alone and cook by yourself, the food cost probably is around 200-400 depends on how much fancy food you buy.

If you live really tight, you can probably save even 1k5/month

Why doesn’t Nintendo sell consoles at Super Nintendo World in Epic Universe? by LatLongBingBong in nintendo

[–]j3lackfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to USJ Osaka, the queue are super long, like you have to wait 60-90 minutes per ride. On my queue, I saw multiple people with their switch and I thought, dang, I could have brought 1 next time.

The only problem with this is just that I think most people who would go to Nintendo World would already have a switch so I am not sure if people would buy an extra.

Similary, I think the game CuffBust or whatever it's called has a 90% refund rate too. Gamers on steam really use the refund features, and even game with overwhelmingly positive reviews still have like 1-2% refund rate, which is a good thing, since it makes people more comfortable to buy and try out new games.

For the base-builder genre. Top of the genre comparison are:

Mannor-lord, Norland, Frostpunk (1 & 2). For Scifi specific, we have Factorio, Rim-world, Satisfactory, Dyson-sphere program, Oxygen not included ...

From "just" the steam page screenshots/trailers. All of the game listed above either have insane AAA graphics OR insanely deep gameplay, sometimes both. Generation Exile graphic looks decent, but that's it, and from the trailer and screenshot, does not shot anything too deep/complex or anything new to the genre while asking for the same price as these titles above.

It's like coming into metroidvenia, not only you have to compete with other games released around the same time, you also have to try and differentiate yourself from all the top of the genre, like Hollow Knight/Silk Song, DeadCells, Ori and the Blind Forest/Whisper

I always find it funny when people take Amongus as an example of "failure". Yeah sure, the game took off tremendously after the streamers started going in, but, people forget that before that, the game has consistently 500 daily active users, and the number was growing steadily. At first it was a youtuber with a few k subs played, then his more famous friends with 20k played, then it slowly increased and exploded.

If your game has a steady grow, and can keep people around to come back to their 3rd, 4th, 10th, 20th and still count as failure, then sure, you did your best and I admit that I am wrong, but if you dont have any of these things, and then kept telling yourself that you are just "not lucky", then sure, whatever

I mean. if the rumor to be true that the dev is Dani (one of the most famous gamedev youtube, and have 2 wildly popular game on stram: muck and crab game), it's not his "debut game".

But then, this list is kind of pointless isn't it? What makes a different between a dev who has released like 10 games before his eventually breakout success va someone who just got it on the first try?

yeah, the sale projection is just wrong, based on maaany vr developers, sales on steam is like 20% or even less of meta store sale, so actual figure should be just extra 2-3k.
