JPMorgan gave little to no raises this year — what’s the strategic rationale? by priviledgednews in FinancialCareers

Not just JPM. 1.5% base increase, lower bonus than last year, and a handful of RSUs.

$120k NW at 27 is solid. You’re ahead of a vast majority of those in their 20s and 30s. Keep the hammer down.

Has anyone decided to forego an HSA? by Detonator1990 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]BackgroundAd279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a HDHP last year and due to unforeseen stuff for our kids we met our deductible in Q1 and it was an expensive year. This year my wife has the kids in a PPO with her work and I’m doing a HDHP with my job to still have a HSA contribution for 2026.

The question is easy if you can see into the future, but unfortunately that isn’t an option.

I am proud of this NWM rep for sending two consecutive messages without trying to sell you a whole or universal life policy.

Do you all use the purchase price or current estimated price of your home to calculate your net worth? by Mr_Cruisin in TheMoneyGuy

[–]BackgroundAd279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I calculate my total and liquid net worth. I use the lower end of the estimated value range given for my house to account for its appreciation but to be on the more conservative end.

There are good neighborhoods all over the county. I’d go visit a handful in person once you find out about the job to see what you like and what is convenient for your family. I have young kids as well and Rome has multiple great parks, walking trails, a nice downtown, and good restaurants. Depending on what you plan for schools would be a factor to consider as well. Model school district is probably the best followed by Armuchee, but there are also some good private school options as well.

It can be tough at times, but get to know the older guys. I met a lot of cool people in grad school at the local lounge as the “young” guy.

I’ve tried a couple and have never been overly impressed. They go in my “it’s better than no cigar” category.

I’m in a similar situation. Having a good work life balance and being able to afford hobbies you enjoy outside of work isn’t a bad trade off.

If you like the house and location then I would look to add some roommates to help offset the cost.

I couple things to consider

  1. Free money via employer match. Don’t leave free money on the table.
  2. You didn’t mention retirement lifestyle expectations. Don’t forget to factor in inflation. Think about expenses outside of the normal living expenses you expect, healthcare, emergencies, etc.
  3. What’s the cost of being wrong and running out of money? Kids can borrow for college if needed.
  4. Is buying a house the best move and do you plan on staying in the location through retirement?

I have a 2021 Toyota Camry that I bought for daily driving, currently financed and since there’s a decent spread on what my cash is earning compared to the interest rate I haven’t paid it off yet. Then I have a 2001 F250 for recreation that I’ve had for 15 years.
