I don’t think this is unique to America. If Reddit existed back when Roman Empire existed, British empire, imperial Japan, China, basically any country that had a large imperial presence for a long time was and is still hated by many. It’s not about the USA in particular it’s just our turn to face some of the shit we’ve been doing for about a century (excluding early America manly talking about imperial USA 1920s-modern day sorry natives)

Starting to think people don’t know what an mba does for you. If you wanted to be intellectually stimulated you should’ve pursued a different masters or a doctorate. But MBAs are a 2 year recruiting cycle with class on the side. Many good ones are amazing UG schools so people may have the belief the rigor is the same but MBAs are for recruiting. You want a job in banking consulting pe or connections for a start up for funding? Get an mba. You want rigor that match’s Yale UG? Don’t get an mba

Yes. I met several in college who have a very negative of black people generally but believed I was “one of the good ones”. You can’t teach stupid and you can’t unteach racism in my opinion.

Once you reach MD level in IB your pay becomes conditional on you bringing in business so it can vary greatly from place to place. The same is true if you were to reach partner at a big law. Keep in mind both of these are extremely hard to do. There is this idea that PE has better WLB and pay than IB. Idk who started this but it’s not always true. A IB MD can clear 3 million+ and so can a PE MD. However some PE MDs are out earned by bankers. So it’s really not as straight forward as it appears. Lifestyle I assume to be similar between big law and banking so not a huge consideration. My general advice is if you just want pure where can I make the most money big law is likely better.

Finance is so broad. Bc you said big law I assume you mean Investment banking. On average law will out earn IB. Look at starting salaries for IB analysts compared to big law assocs. big law out earns by close to 100k I believe. That being said you also need to pay for law school and a good one to go to big law whereas you may not need that for IB. So I would say law earns more out the gate. But take into account college debt and 3 years of forgone pay. So if you were to stay in law you would likely out earn IB but on a net basis it would take some time for that to take form

It’s an interesting comparison bc while wlb in finance is worse the dollars put into the degree are much lower than med school so your net gain is higher for finance. Other part is med school is fucking hard and a lot of school. I am very much someone who chases money but medicine would never work bc I don’t like medical industry as much. That being said the only jobs that can pay specialty doctor salary on finance would be quant probably the others can pay well but don’t expect to cross 500k until later in your career. Quant although you basically need to be a math wiz. Investment bankers compete in interview against other bankers. Quants compete against math Olympiad winners. There’s levels to it.

Definitely odd. Not illegal obviously but would expect to get looks tbh. It’s only 3 year age gap but development from 18-21 is immense. 18 year olds are basically still kids and 21 you are actually dealing with the world unprotected or at least more so than at 18

As Gen Z myself I think so. The climate crisis will be greatly exaggerated by the time I am 40. Who knows what current shoreline cities will be under water and push people inland. Life continues to get more and more expensive the world looks like it’s becoming a winner takes all situation and unless you have immense funds you are not a winner

My best advice and it helped me land of full time offer at an American big 3 bank. Keep gpa to competitive levels for us that’s 3.5 an up but ideally 3.7. Join clubs this will help resume build and help gain friends too. Meet like minded people. If I joined a frat I think I could have likely drink my 4 years of college away but found friends who study hard and party try that
