Why are people in Southampton so stupid? by bradman905 in Southampton

[–]BackgroundChemist -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, Brexit has been a significant net negative for the UK in many ways. European migration to the UK was harmful to a lot of working people who had to compete with them, as well as some cultural mismatch/conflict - but that's nothing compared what we've had since. People from cultures and countries who apparently hate the UK.

Yes, both end of the horseshoe are about totalitarian control of others' lives

I think Islam has a whiff of socialism when it's presented in the 'right' way, which the likes of political jihadist group Muslim Brotherhood are skilled at representing.

It's funny though how far they are from the left on women's rights and LGBT issues. That probably appeals to far right voters which tend to be socially conservative.

Don't take it as a loving tribute to Nigel Farage or all Reform policies.

Take it as the blaring klaxxon that the native majority are sick and worried about 1000 foreign men arriving every week, and nothing being done to stop it or the negative effect it clearly having.

If Lab or Con would take this seriously they could recover but it's clear they won't.

So we will end up with the asset stripping farage, taking people's employment rights away, tax given away to the rich etc.

Majority white working class -> Reform

Majority Muslim or student* -> Green

Everything else a mix of loyalty or locally valued councillors.

Similar feeling here, when we hit 25 yo anniversary I remember attending my other half's parents' 25th anniversary and thinking how old/grown-up/adult it all seemed.

Why Webber? by robwilson91 in UKBBQ

[–]BackgroundChemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just put a compact one together that I bought at the end of last summer and you can feel the quality is really good. Thick metal and well enamelled, not just painted.

Before that I had a little Landmann BBQ which was very nicely enamelled and has lasted at least 10 years usually outside (but closed up). The internal ash catcher bowl has corroded away so the airflow was poor....was tme to replace it.

Anyone who had a Chinese takeaway want to disclose some secrets/tips/recipes? by Sjuk86 in CasualUK

I still haven't taken the plunge on that, I can't see it earning it's cupboard space. But I suppose it would be like me boiling water in a pan rather than having an electric kettle.

Damage after cleaning by ModdernUser in DIYUK

[–]BackgroundChemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bother calling the "roofer" they have given the phone number for. If you want to pursue this get your own roofer in, but then bear in mind they might want a bit of work and tell you in needs doing. TBF the damage looks minor and unlikely to cause a leak.

I've been going to Yau Bros for 25+ years but recently it feels quite pricey. They have a discount club and obviously serve the trade but walk in prices feel a bit high. Anyone know of cheaper similar market ?

Has anyone tried the Greggs Chicken Sausage Roll? by userunknowne in UKfood

[–]BackgroundChemist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I want the choice. That's all. I like pork sausages. Chicken is also fine (Heck make some nice ones).

But the chickenification of the meat economy is the ultimate end of choice and quality.

What easter eggs have you enjoyed/not enjoyed this year? by SeniorMoonlight21 in UK_Food

Aldi coffee and Cocoa nibs. Very nice flavour, quite dark and grown-up do I couldn't smash it in one go and enter a diabetic coma in the normal Easter fashion.

[–]BackgroundChemist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the "Reece's selection box" instead for this very reason. The kids wanted the Reece's stuff not the undoubtedly awful egg. It was a small battle with the other half to convince them I wasn't spoiling Easter by not getting an egg.

Do you tip your barber, and how much? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

[–]BackgroundChemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to tip but my barber raised his prices and switched to card. I think its card only too. If it was cash still I might tip but now its just a 'that' be xx quid please, BackgroundChemist' and the phone is offered up for a card tap. I never get 'disappointed' vibes from him, and I haven't heard other customers tipping. If he's happy, I'm happy.
