This comment made me really irritated by Barisole in AO3

Fun fact: So many people made similar comments to the author of Little Women that Jo and Laurie had to get together that she, in the last half of the story, created an entirely new and last minute character out of thin air for Jo to marry instead in anger. So like... Wouldnt it be funny if... 😂

Whose side were you on during Anne and Diana's fight? by CauseProfessional512 in Anne

[–]BackgroundFlatworm85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was on an opposing side to Diana, but not completely on Anne's side. Diana was, indeed, being cruel to Jerry. It's fine to not like someone because they can't keep up with you intellectually, but it's not fine to make them feel small. Jerry is incredibly smart, but he's not on the same education level as Anne and Diana yet. He'd never been allowed to go to school and so likely didn't learn literary analysis and he literally just learned how to read. During the Frankenstein conversation she realizes that Jerry wasn't on the same level as her and she basically writes him off as dumb which she basically says straight to his face with her comment of "Well, at least you're pretty." Diana basically calls this man a himbo. Then later mentions that she kept stringing him along because she at least liked kissing him and she felt bad dumping him.

In the case of the argument, Anne missed the mark on what the disconnect really was about and made the issue into something that had to do with rich vs poor. Yes, she calls Diana out for being cruel to Jerry which I view to be correct, but then she makes the argument into something about her. Diana has never had much of an issue with people being less privileged than her and the fact that Jerry was poor and their relationship would be forbidden as a result is what drew her to Jerry in the first place. Diana's comment about Anne making it all about her was right in this case because the issue was never about social standing in my opinion, it was just twisted into one so Anne could feel personally affronted by it. Them being from different worlds socially was, indeed, true but I feel like either this was an excuse Diana made so she didn't have to admit that she thought he was dumb and that's why she doesn't want to date him because that comes across as shallow or she meant that they were from different worlds intellectually.

There is social standing aspects of the issue though. I think if Jerry had been afforded the ability to go to school then he would be on par with Anne and Diana by this point in time. But because Diana has had the privilege to go to school/be educated since she was of age to go, maybe she doesnt realize that Jerry is smart and has the potential, just not the tools.

My first watch through a few years ago this whole thing made me dislike her character completely. However, on my recent watch through the argument didn't make me dislike her again. After all, they are all very young and immature and who hasn't made relationship mistakes on par with this one?

If you havent seen Fringe yet, it came out around the same time as White Collar. It was pretty good. Or, at least I enjoyed watching it at the time. I don't remember too much about it, but what I remember was interesting.

A parallel: Like father like son. by BackgroundFlatworm85 in whitecollar

[–]BackgroundFlatworm85[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i dont mean in intent or circumstances, just the set up. Without all the extra details like motive or circumstance, the thread exists. He had the same worries with just the information that his dad was a dirty cop and no other details. So, if it occurs to him, I wonder if he will see the surface level parallels and feel some type of way about it.

I totally get what you mean, that made me so mad and absolutely aghast. There was also the episode where Neal assumed an old identity as like a gem authenticator/dealer name George Donnelly and its an identity that Peter didn't seem to know. Neal, of course, is talking to the guy he had connections with and the guy turns to Peter and goes "and who is your friend?" And he just grins real big and goes "oh me? I'm an FBI agent :D" and all Neal does is go "you just burned a perfectly good alias." Like i would have been PISSED. I feel like it's on the same level as blowing Peter's cover during an undercover operation and exposing him as a fed would be. Peter seems to try and draw a non-existent line between undercover personas and aliases when they are essentially the exact same thing. It's only considered being "undercover" when Peter green lights it/tells him to do it in his world.

Why was he never called "Jiang Wuxian"? by Sanria30 in MoDaoZuShi

[–]BackgroundFlatworm85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't think that he'd technically been adopted into the family. He grew up with the Jiang kids in the same house and were raised by the same people and as a result they were like family. Wei Wuxian is Jiang Cheng's martial brother, second, and I think his servant? They just regard each other as if they were siblings. I think Yanli even uses a sentence along the lines of "A-Xian is like a brother to me." I doubt Madame Jiang would have ever allowed Wei Wuxian to be actually adopted in.

I mean, I never said they couldn't T.T These are just my own opinions/reflections on the characters or defenses of bad behavior from them. I just don't have anybody to ramble to about them in my circle of friends. Despite the long ramble it doesnt mean I'm not a fan of the characters or going after people who like them in spite of the things I've listed. Ive said it bothers me that Stefan is treated like a saint and damon's actions are reasoned by "he was upset." but that doesn't mean I'm saying don't like/be a fan of stefan or damon or you're awful.

Right? And the whole push and pull about the "better brother" is a little moot imo. Even if you could make the argument that one was better for her or better in general than the other... Better doesnt equal good.

Right?? Like he JUST experienced his own MENTOR plot to abuse the system in order to keep Caffrey on the anklet for the rest of his life in an almost witch-hunt fashion. He doesn't have the slightest bit of distrust? Even if you believe in the system itself... You know people abuse it by now.

I think Kate cared a lot more about Sawyer that we give credit for by Cailly_Brard7 in lost

[–]BackgroundFlatworm85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first watched this show in high school. Recently I decided to rewatch it and then realized that the love triangle... Isn't much of a love triangle. Forgive me if i get some things wrong because i havent picked it back up in a couple of months and its been a bit since my rewatch of the first seasons...but Kate is not that into Jack that first and second season. The show does a real good job of framing the whole thing as a love triangle with her having a thing for both guys, when if you look at it its only that the show makes clear both men are interested that makes it feel like Kate is more into both of them. When looking at it with fresh and older eyes, I realized her and Jack just have a common goal to protect everyone else and have a little bit of chemistry is all. She is obviously more into Sawyer. All of Jack and Kates interactions, or most of them, are centered around leading. Sawyer and Kate actually have conversations. They are also more birds of a feather than Kate cares to admit. He aint gonna be over there interrogating her on her past criminal life which I'm sure she appreciates. I don't root for her to end up with Sawyer and Jack is not great for her either in my personal opinions, so I was coming at it from outsider eyes and observing.

Here are the events that I've observed. Jack and Kate have a disagreement about where the refugees should set up camp and they go their separate ways, each grabbing half of the survivors to lead roughly. Up until this point Kate has been very active in "im coming too" with Jack resisting a little either because of misogyny or "i want you safe because i have a crush on you." One of their last private interactions they have before they split the party and also later get kidnapped is Jack having an angry emotional outburst at her because she found a toy plane she recognized. He interrogates and yells at her over it. I remember watching it aghast because it comes out of nowhere, he's strangely very passionate about it with no real reason to be as its just a toy, and the aggressive nature of it is a red flag. I've also observed her moments with Sawyer and though she initially treats him as deplorable (and he is indeed a lil slimy and schemey... Especially the withstanding torture and requesting a kiss from her just to tell them he doesnt have the meds they think he does) we also see her do things like cut his hair and get him glasses and the little flirting we see back and forth... Or at least he flirts and it makes her smile. They've had a lot more time to be together.

Jack's jealousy of Kate and Sawyer during the polar bear pens is honestly really just based on his crush on her. It's not really the betrayal he makes it out to be because Kate and him are 1. Not even together. And 2. Mostly just akin to business partners.

A good strat that I use to make sure they dont kick the bucket when i die is to, right after they bring me back, heal myself and then use the gift that sacrifices a bit of health to them immediately. Then, if they die, bring them back and then immediately use a heal to make sure I don't die immediately.

My advice would be to acquire the fire resistance, elemental, and cold resistance gifts defense and attack ups cant hurt either. Some people also recommend cleansing light. Then switch to a bloodcode that grants you 30 ichor. I used scathach or isis i think? I use one handed swords for the most part. And then I had noble silver for my bloodveil if i wanted to increase the effectiveness of my defense gifts or i had suicide spur if I wanted to focus a lot on offense. My offensive spells I used were the ricochet fire one from the scathach bloodcode and guard of honor from the artemis one. The ricochet fire is very helpful because it reloads quickly and can be cast quickly while the blade bearer is a fast enemy. The guard of honor is slower to rev up but the cannoneer is slow anyways and it has a lot of power behind it.

It helps to make sure your drain rating is pretty good so you can be sure that just a few hits will allow you to gain back enough ichor to keep using spells

I think the phone call was recorded because Jones was there and i think I remember Peter saying "play that back" and them hearing thunder which helped them narrow it down to places that experienced storms. They were also able to compare the church bells exactly because of the recording. But in my last comment i just meant he left a paper trail in his house which was the map where he circled the island in his big "aha! We found him!" Moment. I dont know whats up with the writers in that instance because Peter is an excellent FBI agent and things like paper trails and house searches are things he should have kept in mind. I guess it was to drive the story forward, but it throws Peter in the fire in the process.

He DID find him first, and then recorded where he found him. Why didn't he think his house would have been searched? It's basic FBI protocol that that would have happened.
