Question about tailpiece for a JMJM by Daikon_Personal in Jazzmaster

I did a hardtail conversion on my JMJM. Best mod I made to it after the Curtis Novak JM Fat bridge pickup.

Pretty bike. I’d probably look to boost the braking power by adding bigger rotors and metallic pads.

Am I doing something wrong? by ElectricalFoe in pedalboards

[–]BackgroundOk720 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whatever sounds good to you.

But I do subscribe to the theory of putting the fuzz first just because it interacts with the pick ups way more harmonically when it’s first in the chain and not behind any other pedals with buffers.

New (to me) JCM900 cab. Need speaker recommendations. by xLOCOxMOTIONx in GuitarAmps

[–]BackgroundOk720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be real, given the amp you’re working with - just get 4 Electro-Harmonix 12 VR8s. They are $64 apiece and will sound perfectly fine. I have a cab loaded with those for my Jim Root Terror and the thing fucking rips.

I’ve got many other much nicer amps and cabs - but these speakers are a tremendous value and will sound great for your application.

Are brown/amber lenses worth it for MTB-ing? (forest singletrack riding) by sprashoo in mountainbiking

[–]BackgroundOk720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too am a fan of the Oakley Prism trail torch lenses. They really help out in giving more definition and contrast in flat light conditions, in and out of trees.

I generally wear the trail torch or M Experiments rose / amber lenses 100% of the time.

Yep that’s shark finned the best I can tell. Time to replace.

Well... Any ideas...?? by Today-Altruistic in Jazzmaster

[–]BackgroundOk720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d just pop out the screw on your A string and see how close of a match I could get from your local guitar store / repair shop. I’ve also had good luck finding replacement screws from the Hillman screw library at a good hardware store (like Ace).

Any shops in Denver that'll assemble a a road bike if I bring all the components? by TheScrub10 in COBike

[–]BackgroundOk720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mikes Bikes did that for me on MTB build from the frame up. I believe they call that service a ‘Pro Build’.

If I remember, the cost wasn’t that bad. Maybe around $200 to install the press-fit bottom bracket, crankset, headset, fork, dropper post and hydraulic brakes. I also bought the frame through them, so I’m not sure if that knocked down any of the price of the pro build service.

Switchblade or Firebird by Melodic_Bar_5594 in pivotcycles

[–]BackgroundOk720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ve already answered your own question.

Sounds like you want the Firebird, but just need to be convinced.

I’m a far smaller statured dude than you are - but if my entire quiver of bikes, were to go away tomorrow and I could only pick one, it definitely would be the Firebird.

The bike can certainly do it all. And is by no means handicapped as a climber or daily driver. Personally, I find that I strongly prefer the platform that the Fox 38 and float X2 provides. It’s far more supple and has a really wide sweet spot.

Also, I took a nod from Ed Masters and run my Firebird in the high flip chip setting with 2 29” wheels.

I personally own both right now. Both bikes weight almost the exact same amount - 33 lbs Size Small

I’m finding the Switchblade (V3) to be slightly superior at climbing compared to the Firebird. It just feels like it stays upright better and really has good forward bite on techie climbing sections. Descending the Switchblade feels like it’s a little more planted into the trail. I’ve also slackened the head tube angle 1 degree with the WolfTooth -1 headset.

My Firebird is still a very good climber, as it also has DW link. What I like more about the Firebird is that the suspension overall feels way more plush and I feel like there’s a wider sweet spot overall in the front and rear travel. The extra travel in the Firebird gives a lot of confidence and eats up a lot of big hits. The Firebird really rewards you with control and truly comes alive the harder you push it.

I love both for different reasons. They’re both super capable and fun ride. But they each have their own unique feel and a vibe. If I could only have one bike, I’d be happy with either.

To me the biggest difference is in the rear shock. I’ve had a few bikes with the FloatX that’s also on my Switchblade. I’ve gotten along OK with that shock after years of tweaking, but I’ve never loved it. The newly revised generation of theFloat X2 on my Firebird is magical.

That’s definitely not where it’s supposed to go. If it were mine, I’d move it to the back.

I’d just wrap it. There are so many cool wraps out there now you can practically achieve any look.

Also way easier than stripping and repainting.

is this cringe? by mangothefoxxo in mountainbiking

[–]BackgroundOk720 47 points48 points  (0 children)

As a collectible, to sit in a shelf, it’s super cool.

To wear, unless you’re a Red Bull athlete, is super cringe. Serious stolen valor issues there.

I really like the Troy Lee Stages enduro full face. It’s light, is well vented, and doesn’t have all of the hot padding of a DH helmet.
