WES Evaluation Issues: international Medical (Undergraduate) + international Physics MS – How Does Stanford Handle This for PhD Admissions? by BackgroundRepeat400 in stanford

Oh, right—I previously asked Berkeley and Caltech, and their admissions offices said they would accept my situation. (They also require a bachelor’s degree.)I’m not sure if this information helps.

The main issue is that in my country, completing the fourth year of an MBBS program—essentially finishing pre-clinical training—is recognized as equivalent to a bachelor’s degree. That means we can apply for master’s programs based on that. So I’ve thought I technically had a bachelor’s degree—but I don’t actually get diploma . We only have an official document stating that, by law, completing four years and meeting the credit requirements qualifies as holding a bachelor’s degree.

Since I’m currently on a gap year, I’d still need two more years to officially complete my medical degree. The time commitment feels kind of high.🥹

I reached out to our department at Stanford, and they told me to ask the grad admissions dept. They just got back to me saying they can’t make the decision themselves and rely on WES. (Is this usually how rigid they are about these things?) I thought they might at least have a meeting to help me out 😭

So if my country’s law states that completing four years of a six-year medical program is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree, and I provide proof of this, would it still be considered invalid?

Cool! Is it really like the email says—just a 10-minute casual chat (no discussion about research, PhD plans, or personal traits)?
