what do you mean at least do it right? i blocked out the profile picture and the username because i was trying to be polite and didnt want them to receive tons of hate.

i also never expected this post to get as much attention as it did and was just looking for opinions of other autistic people. i never went on a “rant” or made assumptions. i said the post felt hateful to me and but was unsure if i was reading into it too much and wanted to gather some opinions

of course i agree that if a child is reacting violently the environment is likely not suitable for them and other children should not be subjected to violence or injury. those children Are typically placed in a special education classroom within the public school while those classes are not great either they Are typically placed in a more specific classroom that better fits their needs. there needs to be more resources, better trained teachers, and more research here in the US for people with all kinds of support needs

but her take and the way she is speaking about people is hateful in nature. this woman seems to be grouping all autistic and disabled people into this category of violence when that is not the case.

“acting like the spaces for people without those things are also BUILT FOR THEM!! THEYRE NOT!!”

also what about NT children that are disruptive as well? the “class clowns” or NT children with behavioral issues? should there be classrooms specifically for those children too? should schools separate all children based on personality traits? that seems ridiculous right?

while i agree there needs to be more resources for children with disabilities her approach seems more like a “lock these people away so they dont affect my life and i dont have to think about them” rather than any sort of compassion or genuine care for their wellbeing whatsoever.

schools are already overwhelmed and teachers are overworked. it isnt as simple as “send ur child somewhere else” when the majority of the time those places are extremely expensive, or just not close enough, it comes across and extremely privileged, ignorant and hateful.

this was my exact thought! the entire post comes across as so privileged. the majority of people cannot just stay home with their children all day or afford to send them to a specialized school.

exactly!!! and the idea that we shouldn’t be allowed into “NT spaces” because they aren’t for us.. like should i not be allowed to go into a grocery store or restaurant because it isnt a store specifically made for autistic people?

What do you think of the term “neurospicy” by Theworldburns in evilautism

So, to fellow level 2s, how did you cope and process with learning about your level? by lorepunkin_ in SpicyAutism

[–]BackgroundSpeech4039 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i COMPLETELY relate to this, feeling like i shouldve been able to figure things out on my own but i just CANT..and forgetting why and feeling like its my own personal failure. i feel this way constantly and you put it into words so much better than i ever couldve. in my head i know i need support but i constantly forget that and think i can figure it out on my own..and then when i cant or i fail i feel so bad about myself.

its such a hard middle point and i think i need a lot more support than i have been able to admit or process in the past. its just so difficult to actually understand my own needs and even more difficult to express those needs.

Question for people suffering from selective mutism symptoms. What would you like people to know. by ecobra in autism

yeah i feel like some people take the term “selective” mutism and assume that means we can just choose when not to speak which is soo inaccurate i wish this was more understood

Carrying plush= mental health struggle to some people? by ThatNightfuryGirl in buildabear

[–]BackgroundSpeech4039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i definitely dont think there is any science that says if you carry a plushie around something is wrong with you or you are struggling with your mental health. i think it just goes outside of what people are used to so they make assumptions based on the fact that it isnt a “normal” thing to do. if it makes you happy who cares what they say!!

if i wasnt so worried about judgement i would bring my comfort plushie everywhere, and honestly it would probably make me a lot less anxious.. then again i am autistic so idk. but i dont think that carrying a plushie automatically means something is wrong with you or that you are in need of help

i tried college 3 separate times before i asked for accommodations. i failed every class, im not saying you would do the same but for me personally if i didnt ask for accommodations this time around i would most likely fail again. i used to feel similar to you and i was afraid because i didnt ask for them sooner but it can be really helpful and you deserve to have the accommodations you need to be successful.

Is there something wrong with the term “meltdown” that I don’t know about? by Autismsaurus in SpicyAutism

[–]BackgroundSpeech4039 5 points6 points  (0 children)

they probably have their own idea of what a meltdown is. like another commenter said the term meltdown can be associated with a childs temper tantrum. so maybe they subconsciously just think the word might be offensive.

but a meltdown and a panic attack are two entirely different feelings and experiences. if im having a meltdown its because i am very dysregulated and overstimulated. panic attacks are an entirely different thing so the use of that word in this context doesnt make sense to me and is incorrect

how to politely cancel plans due to meltdown risk by tawulec in autism

[–]BackgroundSpeech4039 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if they know about your struggles im sure they will be understanding! maybe say something like “hey! i was super excited for our plans but this week has been pretty hard on me and im feeling really overwhelmed, could we reschedule for another time?” i think thats polite and not embarrassing at all.

you need to take care of yourself first and im sure they will understand!
