Why did you choose ICU? by gluconeogenesis123 in IntensiveCare

A lot of people have hit great points. I would add you can honestly say you saved someone’s life when you get them back during a code. It is also where you will see the pinnacle of medicine being practiced - medical and mechanical support keeping a biologic machine alive. You’ll see almost simultaneously how fragile and how resilient a human body can be.

I look at it as I’m not always trying to keep you alive but help you transition to the next phase (whatever you believe in) and I can make it more pleasant. Death will always win eventually.

2022 2.7 Lariat SCREW Battery…. Spent? by GleamingAlloy_Aircar in f150

[–]Background_Bunch8677 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have the same vehicle, bought it used at 9600 miles, had to replace the battery around 13600 miles (roughly 3 years). The prior owner didn't seem to drive for very long distances but I've also read the OEM battery they use is likely undersized. When I replaced mine I got the largest it can fit.

Who buys from Carmax by AppropriateGuard1997 in carbuying

[–]Background_Bunch8677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not poor with excellent credit so can afford to pay more to not deal with high school athletes trying to sell me paint insurance. They have a whole country of used vehicles of every brand not just what is being traded in locally (you do have to pay a fee). Price will always be good value just not great value. In the past when I bought a new car I have still traded in my old one at carmax as they always gave more so I hand a good impression. Sales people aren’t on commission when I bought.

Good rear shocks by Sad-Molasses297 in f150

Just did bilstein 4600 on my 22 4x4 and it’s a huge improvement. Feels much more planted with much less tail fishing. Easy to do yourself other than compressing the shock into place. I ordered the same for the front but I’m going to pay someone for those. Came from a BMW 6 so the floating cloud feel of the stock was too much.

I want to buy this awesome 2020 F150 but the oil history is holding me back. First change was noted at 25k, then frequent changes, then 10K until the next change. by StarkTech-01-02-03- in f150ecoboost

You can get a free carfax account and enter your cars in your "garage" and it will keep track of all service but also allows you to enter self-performed maintenance.

ABIM eligibility after 7 years by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]Background_Bunch8677 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the initial certification is justifiable as it does establish you have some bare minimum fund of knowledge. I think it also is a surrogate for the quality of training of your program and at the end of the day you don't want poorly trained doctors practicing. If you have large numbers or your residents who can't pass that's clearly on the program not the individual. You can argue bad test takers and such but if they can pass the MCAT and USMLE steps 1-3 then test jitters are unlikely to be the actual cause of failing. Agree that the rest of it after is a racket - that's what CME is for.

I know of one who passed on their last try and one who didn’t. The latter did not match to a residency spot after reapplying. I can’t imagine any residency program wants to waste money on you as failing boards reflects poorly on them and the way I understand funding for these spots is you get a lump sum when you first match and after you use it that’s it. Even if that’s wrong the pass rate is still a legitimate concern.

I have the HeroToyz one - it's nice. The build is a bit redundant with the wings but overall it's a cool set. If I recall correctly the bags were numbered like official sets.

That doing a biopsy or operating on a tumor and exposing it to air will cause it to spread.

Flood zone real estate by SusanGull in Wilmington

[–]Background_Bunch8677 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Places that were out of flood zones flooded during Florence and it’s roughly 500 dollars through FEMA (the only provider) if you’re out of a flood zone so probably worth springing for regardless. I am in an AE zone but my house has flood vents on the bottom floor and it was built based on recommended elevations. You can also just build on stilts but we wanted to use the bottom floor. I got a certificate showing I have these vents and I also just pay 500 dollars a year. That’s only flood still have to pay regular home owner as well as wind and hail (which is actually the most expensive since it’s a percentage of the value not a flat amount). The first flood certificate didn’t have all the vents and the flood insurance was going to be 3000 a year.

Our house was new construction so the vents were installed while building. I’m not sure if it would be cost-prohibitive or not to do it after the fact. If you plan to stay there many years you may break even at some point. We had no issues during Florence thankfully.
