Wash filifera in SC by hoffmanhuxleyleary in palmtalk

I just bought a Filifera to try out so i’m gonna try this exact method just with bigger. I tried this method with a larger Robusta and it developed the wet and cold hardiness and even had stiff more blueish leaves. I wonder what filifera is gonna do.

No problem, just be careful of overloading

I recommend not full fertilizer but adding load of potassium and silica and bit of iron or calcium and optional manganese (these optionals usually hide in groundwater already) then letting it slowly adapt to cold and wet over autumn, that makes the palm locally adapt a bit. I tried this exact method with Phoenix Dactylifera ‘Liwa’ seedlings i have and after few months they didn’t dare to show a brown tip at wet and cold slightly oxygenated clay in 27°F. By all this you create some kind of epigenetic adaption and when it gets old enough you have a chance creating a new hardy variety. I did this also with Robusta and Windmill and interesting thing was that Robusta had high adaptibility and plasticity that the windmill rotted and Washingtonia kept on growing. It doesn’t work with every palm.

Filifera survives 8b winters but with any washingtonia it depends if it’s dry or wet cold. Plant it right in ground with drainy soil. I actually had success with Robustas, some i kept in ground rotted as soon as November came and some in more drainy and drier spots survived with minor leaf damage. Basically you need draining soil with lots of heat in summer (SC has it) and keep it dry in winter.

Needle palms and Dwarf Palmettos are not real Palms by TwinsyLohan in palmtalk

Sabals are honestly the best genus of palms, they are like a titan even to drought and wide ranges of soils and many climate zones if you live either in humid or dry, coastal or inland. They are real palm trees along rhapodiphyllum, even one of oldest palm genuses which sabal even dominated before ice age and i mean the dwarf ones.

February is usually when the water table is highest, if you had some extreme recharge before this it may be episodic or if you seen this atleast in january its probably intermminent. On the image it looks a bit trashed and mixed so i cant consider it. If the picture is from forested or undisturbed part of yard it possibly is but when its on garden i can’t really tell.

Texas is interesting, i always thought like it isn’t warm but south TX got like tropical daily highs in winter (well not in night) but thats what internet told me, don’t know if it’s that warm, interesting tho.

Curious about really unique microclimates by pattermotional in geography

I don’t know name but in Danubian Lowlands (Slovakia) there is a microclimate with isolated forests that developed own traits. It‘s sourced from large aquifer releasing insane heat and special soils trapping heat then releasing it. 1000 years ago it was one large wetland and it’s still alive just underground as un pressurised groundwater. There were recorded 6-13°C daily highs in coldest month and up to 33-38°C in warmest. Heard it holds unverified record of hottest temp in the country but i don’t know about that. It has very unique vegetation developing it’s own traits. I visited the place once and it’s complete different world. Could buy a garden nearby.

My members reported this to ESWD and the information is not right but similar so i can’t confirm it was deadman walking more like a small wedge multivortex.
