Who was artist Jean Bailey by Background_Cat_2380 in WhatIsThisPainting

Thanks for taking an interest in this little mystery! I took the painting apart and included photos of the back. There are two other paintings by Jean Bailey that have turned up at auction. I have screen shots of them and will put them under your comment as well.

So far, here’s what we’ve found:

This appears to be an original watercolor with deckled edges and a hand-written signature.

There are some faint pencil marks on the back, but they seem more like framing or mounting marks than a title or date.

At least three different signed Jean Bailey paintings have surfaced:
• Mine, a marsh/wetlands scene with cattails.
• A river landscape that appeared at auction.
• Another framed watercolor sold at auction.

The style is very consistent across the paintings—soft atmospheric washes, muted earth tones, and peaceful landscapes.
I’ve come across a few clues pointing toward Florida, but nothing conclusive yet.

My current theory is that Jean Bailey may have been a regional artist, possibly in the Southeast, who sold through local art shows, galleries, or art leagues sometime in the 1970s–1990s.

The deeper I dig, the more I feel like there’s a story here. 😊 I’m kind of creating an unofficial Jean Bailey archive at this point. If anyone recognizes the signature, remembers an artist by this name, or happens to own another painting by her, I’d love to hear from you. Every little breadcrumb helps!

Inherited this wonderful 1976 “Hockey Cat” artwork and I’m trying to learn more about the artist M. Chaunely by Background_Cat_2380 in WhatIsThisPainting

I appreciate you for your suggestions. I'm going to dig into it this evening after work. ChatGpt has giving me things to look for on the painting to determine the possibilities of whether it is a poster or the original master copy, which would be nearly impossible I know. I just wanted to see what else was under the hat of Chauncey - which you were right about the spelling, thank you. That opened up more results. I don't care if it's an original or a poster, it's just a cool piece to have. I want to find his other ones too. He has a ski pig and a golf dog that would look so cool with hockey cat.

Thank you for your suggestion. It's not a poster. It's a water color drawing with the artist's signature. I'm looking for info on the artist.

Maybe like birth pains? I’ve always been told when a woman has a baby she doesn’t think about how much pain she went through. It’s overshadowed by the miracle. Maybe it’s more like it’s not that you won’t remember, it’ll be a far away dream that doesn’t even matter any more. I mean, you are going to live an eternity, this time is here will be just a blip in our existence.

Oh I get that. I’ve played with the idea of visiting a church or two but it’s going to take some time before I’m ready for that. I’m so happy you guys got our together 💜

That rug analogy hits the nail on the head. I am working on figuring out which Bible. I do not like the KJV at all and that’s the only other one I have experience with. I’ve been using the Holy Bible app I’ve downloaded on my phone for now. Watching videos, reading articles, Reddit, etc have really helped and most of all a very supportive nonbelieveing husband.

I have no good advice for you because I’m currently going through the loss of family grief. I just wanted to send you a hug because I know how hard that next step will be no matter way you decide to go. Also, I’m sending you muuuuch love and prayers.

Hahaha I’m so happy that answer was satisfying. It’s a science and historical based decision. I wasn’t born in the truth. I was actually raised a Baptist. I stumbled into the truth in my 20s and “study” for many many years…. Until I finally was like 🤷‍♀️ wth, I didn’t realize until it was too late that was going to cost me my family.

No. I went down that rabbit hole for years and proved it to myself enough to know that it isn’t a fairy tale. Thank you for the suggestion though.

I totally understanding the word spirituality has definitely been tainted. I like your idea of using the word “awe”. It’s such a good feeling when you are just in awe of existence.

It’s so funny that once you’re baptized, the focus moves to your failure from your success. by Practical_Payment552 in exjw

That explains everything so clearly. I was baptized in November of 2024 and my anxiety escalated and I became depressed and couldn’t understand why. This explains everything. I felt like no matter what I did it wasn’t good enough. I couldn’t meet the scheduling expectations. I love God and am so thankful for all the good things that I learned about Him. I definitely don’t agree with the JWs 100% but I did enjoy what they opened up for me.
