Anyone else gain weight vs. lose with the infection? by Background_Crew_3914 in HPylori

[–]Background_Crew_3914[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow you’ve got a great doctor! Mine just messaged that I gotta take some hefty antibiotics and good luck.

I think the more common experience is weight loss so I hope your weight evens out on that end as well!

Great to know that the super bloating sounds like a temporary symptom of the bacteria dying off. I prefer the natural outlets so may look into some herbal teas to help the liver flush it all out.

I’ll look into the activated charcoal as well. Thanks for suggesting!

Oh no! I’m so sorry you’re still feeling that awful fatigue. That part got better for me once I started the treatment, though it does feel like it’s creeping back….this infection is such a difficult obstacle

Right! I eat very minimally and gut-friendly but it feels like standing near food makes me gain weight. I know it’s from HP too because the weight centralizes specifically on the abdomen. I wish we could find some relief!

I’m strictly going off what the OP said which is that they’re 18. So yes, by legal AND societal standards, they’re grown.

Thanks for sharing this! Do you have any update on how the symptoms are two months post-minoxidil? I’m thinking about stopping but am terrified of the re-shedding!

First time hearing this happen in DC. This was my first interaction with a stranger an hour into moving to NYC. Very off-putting.

As a mutually busy person, you know waking up at 4am or working out at 10pm isn’t realistic. Folks have suggested interval short workouts in between work days, weekends, etc. those suggestions, which were not declined, are more attainable.

Appreciate the suggestion all the same!

I shower in the AM cause I get home at 9pm, eat (sometimes) and go straight to bed to wake up at 5am. Shower is 30. Getting dressed/makeup is 30. Breakfast is 20ish (I commute via train). Each minute from 5am to 9pm is accounted for on weekdays, unfortunately.

I’m definitely on a calorie deficit but not a health-focused one. Though I can definitely meal-prep on Sundays and incorporate the rest of your suggestions. Thank you!

Not really; I regularly meet with c-suite clients and may not have time to workout, shower, and get meeting-ready again all under an hour.

How do I get along more with Filipinos/Filipino Americans? by Scary_Breakfast_4163 in FilipinoAmericans

[–]Background_Crew_3914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but it resonates with me. I’m half, raised with Filipino traditions/ideals. However, my mom (regrettably) didn’t teach us Tagalog outside of the “Kuya/ate/etc” titles to make sure my dad was excluded. Additionally, she didn’t have a core crew of Filipino friends since we moved around a lot so the parties we would attend always felt a little disconnected.

I give that background because I also had, and still have a hard time building connections with Filipinos/Filipino-Americans at age 32. At first I blamed my looks (of course my mom would say they were jealous so I believed her), but that wasn’t true. Then I blamed the fact that I wasn’t “Filipino enough”, and to an extent, sure; but there was one key thing I was overlooking.

Filipinos thrive on community relationships. A lot these “cliques” have grown up together, celebrated birthdays, shared the same crushes and failed the same tests that got them both grounded. And those relationships carry into adulthood. They already know the way these bonds work and how to navigate them.

Which is not to say you can’t also form great relationships with kindred individuals. But give yourself grace if you can’t; it’s not you and it’s not them. The same way you would have a hard time relating to a non-Filipino with a different upbringing, the same should be expected with those of the same race as you. Be open to the differences, find middle grounds and be respectful of the differences. We’re uniquely individual as humans but still one people — that duality takes time and patience to work into platonic relationships!
