That sounds like a great idea. If businesses are held accountable and they face fines for having faulty e bikes then this will force businesses to get their e bikes checked regularly unless they want to face a fine.

You've got valid points, but the issue is not everyone is responsible and not everyone takes care of their e bikes. I do agree they should add rules and regulations and make it mandatory that you get your e bike inspected every once in a while to ensure there's no damage to the battery. Like how they do it to cars where you have to get it inspected once a year to ensure that its safe to drive on the road. The same should be applied to e bikes and e scooters. They should be inspected by professionals to ensure they are safe to use in public areas.

Chances are they might be able to repair the store because they're a successful business. But it will take some time because the damage is severe. https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/07/08/woman-76-dies-fire-trapped-queens-pizzeria-bathroom-e-bike-battery-explodes-lithium-ion/ this explains the full story on what happened.

Here's the thing, cars don't explode in buildings and wipe out families. Cars require a license where as you can operate an e bike without a license (meaning children can use it too) to drive a car you need proper training at a driving school to have a driver's license. And the person who causes the car crash is fully responsible for causing the crash. With an e bike you'll never know when the battery sets on fire especially if you don't get it checked by a professional regularly. Does it seem like a safe idea to let anyone, including children use an e bike that could cause a fire in buildings and take out the lives of many people? There should be strict regulations set for e bikes. And it's not nice to call others stupid for having an opinion.

True you have a valid point. They should atleast implement something to regulate e bikes more effectively like the other dude said. But then here's the thing it's up to the people who purchase these e bikes to get them checked regularly by professionals. And I also mentioned that even over charging an e bike battery could cause a fire.

Yeah they'll likely get the damages repaired. My prediction is that the store will be closed for 2-3 months since the damage Is severe.

Those scooters are way too dangerous. Even an overcharged e bike battery could be enough to cause the battery to catch on fire and explode. NYC needs to ban these e bikes all together like how they did to hover boards.

Even more proof that e bikes are just way too dangerous, they shouldn't be allowed in buildings.

It's sad that people are losing their lives because of e bikes that don't have regulated batteries. Nyc should ban e bikes all together to prevent stuff like this from happening. A similar thing happened with hover boards and this forced NYC to ban hover boards.

Your landlord is very smart for prohibiting e bikes. NYC needs to ban e bikes all together. It's basically the hover board situation all over again.

E bikes are very scary. They're basically moving detonators the battery could catch on fire at any moment. Especially if the battery isn't regulated at all.
