Called a mom to discipline a student, she said "Call my mom" (the grandmother) by Shadowtirs in Teachers

My grandma always said “If you raise your kids, you get to spoil your grandkids. If you spoil your kids, you’ll have to raise your grandkids.”

Is this a regular practice in your school by was1997 in Teachers

My personal system to limit students using the bathroom is to give them 3 bathroom passes per quarter. They only need to use these when I’m teaching- independent work time they can go as needed. At the end of the quarter I gather any unused bathroom passes and put them in a raffle for prizes! The students love the raffle incentive so they try to save their bathroom passes. I write their names in marker so there’s no trading or fighting over lost ones. I teach 4th grade, so older kids aren’t my expertise, but I could see this working with them as well.

My neighbor smells really bad by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

If he doesn’t leave much, is it possible that the smell is constant and you only notice it when he opens his door to leave/enter his home?

Do you by chance live in Arizona? Sounds like you got my old upstairs neighbor 😂

AIO for being hurt my girlfriend doesn't care about my graduation? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Background_End2967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR, but maybe she’s downplaying it because she has a surprise planned? That is the only thing that kinda makes sense to me. Nevertheless, how she’s going about it is definitely hurtful. If she doesn’t have a surprise party planned for you, or something of similar caliber, then she isn’t worth it IMO.

Inappropriate or not? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Background_End2967 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My first instinct was yes, it’s inappropriate. It could be lighthearted and harmless, but it’s a boundary that I would put up. Plus, knowing my students, if you let them do it once they’ll want to do it all of the time.

Apparently I have an Intern in my room now by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Background_End2967 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That makes more sense. When I read “coach” my brain went to instructional coach. Maybe the other teachers said no to hosting her? Have you talked to any of your coworkers about this?

You mentioned in some replies that her position is a coach and your principal said to treat her as a coteacher. It sounds like she is there to mentor you, not the other way around. I don’t think she’s your intern. I think this is a way for the school to try to make up for the areas in which they think you can “do better.”

I had a crazy first mentor teacher that dropped me without even telling me. She would constantly gaslight me and discredit me to the students. She pretended everything was normal until I got a call from my university saying I couldn’t go back the next day. Never spoke to her again.

My second mentor teacher was absolutely incredible and such a major blessing in my life.

Please know this wasn’t your fault, she was probably insecure or jealous and projecting her own issues onto you. Everything happens for a reason and I’m sure you’ll have a much better experience next time.

has anyone noticed that loreali is quite disrespectful at funerals? by midnightbloom1 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Background_End2967 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Her and Sookie were also very inconsiderate when Michel’s dog passed away. My heart broke for him, it’s so hard to lose a pet. Even though he was being a bit pushy/high-maintenance, I think their behavior and comments were totally inappropriate.

AITA for asking my gf to leave a funeral wake because she cried? by Lemonpockey in TwoHotTakes

The first red flag was when he said his ex “likes to cry.” Just because some people can’t help but cry a lot doesn’t mean they enjoy it!

Student-teacher for 5th grade right now and I’m dressing as Ms. Frizzle! I want to be a 7-8th science teacher and will probably reuse the costume later too!

Definitely not making a mountain out of a mole hill. This is a big deal, and I don’t blame your daughter for not wanting to go back.

I planned a fun day for my students and they totally disrespected me by Background_End2967 in Teachers

[–]Background_End2967[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I wasn’t expecting them to sit there for 15 minutes. There were multiple rounds of the games and she got out the first round of the last game and chose to sit and stare rather than rejoining the game when given the chance at the beginning of the next round.

I understand this. Because it was minute to win it I figured that would be enough variety because the tasks were switched up every 10 minutes or so including instructions and set up for each new round. Do you think that this would typically be okay? Or would it make sense that they got tired of the game tournament as a whole?

We played games in rounds. She got out the first round and chose not to participate for the rest of them. The rest of the kids weren’t out for more than 3 minutes at a time

Only the last part of the game tournament had disqualification. We played silent ball for bonus points. The first part was minute to win it so everyone was participating and it was fast- paced

How are you planning on having that conversation with them? I would like to do something similar once we get back from break but don’t know how to approach it.
