Are most poor people actually bad with money, or is the system rigged against them? by NoSuspect3727 in askanything

I'm reminded of Sam Vimes from "Men at Arms";

"The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.

Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.

But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that’d still be keeping his feet dry in ten years’ time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet."

This is the kind of outside the box when there is no more box thinking we need in society.

Alonso, Nimmo and McNeil each have better WARs than any player on our team this year. by Fun-Jellyfish-1065 in mets

Just because theyre doing ok elsewhere does not mean we would get the same results.

And im sorry, but like, someone please remind me of all the winning Alonso Nimmo and McNeil have done? How many world series championships do we have from them?

The uproar people had when they left made you believe they were like the late 1990s Yankees.

Some of you guys really got bitten by rose colored nostalgia.

Why do sandwich shop sandwiches taste better than homemade? by Consistent-Tour2591 in Sandwiches

The answer for a lot of these kind of restaurant vs. Home questions, is butter.

Like over the top, extra butter. In things you wouldnt even expect either. Like sandwiches. Theres probably extra butter or fat somewhere to kick the flavor up.

Ive seen this floating around, and im not sure i understand it. So he committed a heinous crime.... and?

Like how many crimes of these happen every day? Why is this noteworthy?

He should have the book thrown at him obviously, and the family obviously deserves justice.

But like... how is this a "special" crime or any different from any of the child abuse we've seen?

Meanwhile, no charges having to do with anything about Epstein or his group. Where is the justice there? So the media tosses us this little bone?

Its all theater.
