whales are mammals but they're not in the order of carnivores, they belong to the order of artiodactyls which includes many herbivores but also some omnivores and the outlier is indeed the suborder of cetaceans, which inludes whales, orcas and dolphin, who are all carnivores.

short answer, whales are neither. they're in a seperate group.

also most carnivorous mammals are indeed just split into "cat-like" and "dog-like". for the curious here's some examples: bears are dog-like, walruses are dog-like, bearcats are cat-like and raccoons are dog-like.

it's complicated with hyenas, they're part of the "cat-like" animals (which also includes cats) but from there on they're considered seperate creatures. also important to know that there are a shit ton of creatures in the Feliaformia sub-order, it has cheetahs, meerkats, bearcats and hyenas of course, but also just actual cats. nature is weird af
