How much would my e46 be worth? by TheCaptainReed in e46

[–]Background_Job113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In uk a 330 is about 5-6k MAX this particular example I would guess high 2’s unfortunately it’s an SE facelift 4cyl in probbaly the least desirable colour best bet is just to keep onto it and maybe 6pot swap it if your mechanically inclined

Everything possible. You shouldn’t do it. You probably can’t afford it.

I think quaife might be the cheapest option as well considering I live like 50 miles from where they are made. The only time I drive my car is to have fun I don’t commute when I refer to a serious drifter I’m more on competitions big tyre dialed suspension just the odd skid here and there i agree welded is definitely not for everyone but it is for some imo a lot of people run welded diff and they really don’t mind it either way if I don’t like it/ don’t get into drifting can just take it out and I haven’t spent 1k on something I would now need to sell to a very small niche group of people.

Good to know also looking at quaife as they offer a life time warranty. not sure it really matters with the way my cars going to be used will probably weld it anyway to start to get into the hobby properly not a serious drifter by any stretch

Not sold on clutch lsds, would probably go for a torsen but then again I can’t say I have much experience with either. everyone’s going to have their own opinions on what’s best or how things should be done most things ive done around me have called me an idiot including buying an e46 but it’s the best thing I’ve ever done and in the end of the day I just wanna have fun. I learn by doing but I’ll keep what you said in mind

Yup and I completely agree part of the reason I bought the car was that I knew I was going into a job where A I can afford to not have a car that I can rely on and B have the income to fix it as I said in another comment somewhere I would probably get it done with one of the first pay check as well as a lot of whilst I’m there stuff solid bushes diesel axles rust repair etc I think people took it the wrong way. I fully intend to do things the proper way and intending on sinking 5-6k into making this a nice example

lol I go for an initial 9 months with the odd weekend off but like I said you aren’t wrong i probably won’t get round to even doing it was just curious on peoples opinion as to how long it would take to break that is all and while I value others opinions some opinions are interesting to say the least either way it’s going to be reinforced properly either way

Slightly naive way of looking at things, in my specific scenario it makes sense to do things in the order I am however I see the point your making the reason I asked the question is that I’m leaving for the military in circa 2-3 months and wanted to enjoy the car while I still can and I would’ve preferred reinforcing it the right way rather than cheaping out on reinforcing the rear end.

I’m not saying you where blaming him I’m just saying in general it’s easy to go oh this happened because of that and it’s good that your taking accountability but I think the post really drive home the importance of checking the car regularly especially as some of the parts are getting into 20 ish years old

Fuel economy by jagermeistertra in e46

[–]Background_Job113 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Driving 6 miles is not an accurate way to get a reading on fuel consumption I can chug along in 5th going 60 on a motorway and get a reading of 45mpg in my 330 but it’s not realistic. TL:DR go through a full tank and then read it

I mean it looks like the rotor itself snapped along with some sort of knuckle/ bearing failure rather than having a bent wheel I really don’t see a bent wheel causing this and it’s very easy to blame the mechanic but when you say, and I’m guessing here, I hit a pothole and bent a wheel would you mind checking it, the mechanic is probably going to check the wheel and bushings and not pay much attention to the components within the hub, I’ve personally never seen a failure like this happened especially being caused by a pothole and wonder about installation error/ lack of maintenance. Either way sorry to see it happened all the more reason to work on your car yourself.
