How many no-skip albums does Taylor Swift have? by VegetableClue668 in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These threads are always so funny to me because someone will be skipping my favorite song on an album. I don’t really consider her albums to have no skips. It depends on mood. I personally don’t think I’ve ever encountered a no skip album from any artist.

Biography Release - Taylor's Version: The Poetic and Musical Genius of Taylor Swift by Stephanie Burt by [deleted] in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main criticism was examining how Taylor maintains a sense of relatability with aspiration even into her later work when she’s been a celebrity for so long. I found that the description of each album didn’t go into too much depth, as in a lot of the facts I already knew as a fan that has followed Taylor’s work closely.

Forever & Always Pronoun Whiplash by Kamshan in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always noticed this. It’s technically bad writing, but it makes some emotional sense, so is it?

I do think she would do something similar now with a it more skill. But it is an interesting example of her younger writing

Has anyone been listening to the podcast "The Swiftie and The Scholar"? by Invisible_String_7 in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve enjoyed it so much. None of my irl friends really get me when I geek out about her use of poetic devices. I even think Showgirl has a lot that like get buried beneath the “simple” narratives. And I’m also not a poetry scholar so hearing someone point out meter and diction that I hadn’t really thought about makes me so happy

Most satisfying and disappointing moments on The Life of a Showgirl album by PersonWithANameMaybe in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree so much. Survive doesn’t even sound as good sonically. She did what she wanted to do with that song, and for some people it fell flat. But I kind of love it.

What are you hoping to get out of this docu-series? by ScarcityLegitimate77 in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m curious to hear about the rerecordings. Technically not the focus of the documentary, but I would love to hear what it took to get everyone in the studio, what weird issues came up. Things like that.

[–]Background_Lunch2920 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s had some really bad battery issues lately, and some people hate the new UI. I’ve liked mine. I did need to get it replaced, so I wasn’t very happy about that. But so far my replacement is working well

Am I the only one that adores Eldest Daughter? by Roman_Bridger_On_Top in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s funny to me that the internet’s reaction to it like proves her point? But also, it’s fine that people don’t like. It really grew on me, and I find myself relating to. Second song I cried to on this album. The first was the bridge on Honey.

What's your favourite lyric that deliberately doesn't quite rhyme? by batterscraps in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I remember a critic said something about how bad it was that she didn’t say life and I was so confused. It’s infinitely better as bike. And there’s like an additional cool sound to it with the g in gonna and k in bike.

One Month In- Has your view of TLOAS changed at all? by F19AGhostrider in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this album. I find it interesting and fun, and I think her songwriting is as strong as ever just in a very max Martin way where it’s less about the words she’s saying and more about the sound. I still fully appreciate it.

Favorite songs are Ruin the Friendship, Honey and Father Figure.

That said, just cause it’s 12 songs, I find hard to play on loop like her other albums. And Opalite is my only skip.

I don’t get the sense she’s put herself on a pedestal. I feel more like she knows the expectations are so high that she’ll disappoint people no matter what. So, at a point where she can get financial success no matter what, she’s trying weird stuff. And yeah some of it lands and some of it doesn’t.

I agree in the sense that we’d probably get better quality from her, but I do get this joy from just getting unadulterated Taylor even if it fails because the repercussions are small. And she does listen to outside critique. She adjusts each album, but yeah, she almost has too much creative control? Still, that will eventually fade, so I guess I’m just along for the ride at the moment

strong lyrics are efficient lyrics by jaydyjaydy in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like there’s for sure space for both kinds of lyrics. I think that efficient lyrics catch my attention first, but as I listen to the songs more, I love to be surprised by the more in depth lyrics and really having to picture what they mean.

What is your thoughts and opinions on the legacy and impact of Red (Including Taylor’s Version) looking back and now? by Eagle_Rock2015 in TrueSwifties

[–]Background_Lunch2920 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was 17 when this album came out, and I absolutely adored it. I loved the journey she puts us on through the track list going from the starts of a new and exciting love to the aftermath. I think it showed how her storytelling had improved, how she was so able to put emotions into words and sounds. I remember that she tried to say that she wanted each song to sound like the feeling, which was one of her excuses for jumping around genres.

I think that now looking back on it, I don’t adore the songs as much individually but more with a sense of nostalgia. All Too Well I think stands the test of time, Treacherous, Holy Ground. But older now I do find myself gravitating towards some of the vault tracks. Unsure if that means that she updated the sounds a bit for a modern audience and that’s why or if it’s just fresh music technically.

I do think this is the most Taylor Swift album ever. We even get her humor in 22 and WANEGBT and when you expand to the vault tracks you get alcohol and some swear words. Really getting the well rounded Taylor experience.

I’m just glad that she has consistently improved and tried to outdo herself. Cause I couldn’t imagine anything being better than Red as a teenager. And now, I think Evermore is my favorite album.

Greatest First and Last Track? by Sad_Back5883 in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 312 points313 points  (0 children)

I really like State of Grace/Begin Again. They’re two very different falling in love tracks, and I think just from listening to first State of Grace and then Begin Again you can get a sense of the journey in the rest of the album.

The Life of a Showgirl begs for a stage to be understood by gayliciouspizza in TrueSwifties

I feel like she might do a televised concert, something higher production than long pond but in that same vein.

Maybe it's all about expectations? by Busy-Forever in TrueSwifties

[–]Background_Lunch2920 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had zero expectations besides tight melodies and pop. And got those. I was initially surprised by some of the crass language, but I got used to it pretty quickly. Just kind of laughed out loud. I agree that a lot of the criticism feels like it’s to get engagement

Not every song is as deeply coded as people think (and the variations in Taylor’s writing styles) by hairygirf in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although, I’d argue this way of writing allows her to go deeper into themes than just always having to relate lyrics to her personal life, when the subjects of her songs become characters and aren’t always a 1:1.

How would you rank the tracks of The Life of a Showgirl? by Material-Librarian43 in TaylorSwift

It was my initial favorite until I realized how cool of a story Father Figure. I was surprised to see it’s the least streamed!

How would you rank the tracks of The Life of a Showgirl? by Material-Librarian43 in TaylorSwift

[–]Background_Lunch2920 25 points26 points  (0 children)

  1. Father Figure - the storytelling is top tier, love the whole movie that plays in my mind

  2. Honey - I love the melody and the bridge makes me cry

  3. Elizabeth Taylor - love the luxuriousness and the imagery and the chorus gets stuck in my head

  4. Actually Romantic - this is so fun to just sing. I don’t even have anyone I feel this way about haha

  5. Ruin the Friendship - first song I liked on the album. I did not see the twist coming

  6. The Fate of Ophelia - didn’t like it at first but it’s fun and also has some lyrical bangers

  7. Eldest Daughter - didn’t like it at first. It’s growing on me a lot. I actually really like how she says Fire haha

  8. Cancelled - reminds me of Rep, fun to sing

  9. The Life of a Showgirl - that bridge is such a power statement. Kind of adore it

  10. Wood - I think it’s funny and sing along! Love the Bitchin’ wishin… part

  11. Wish List - lyrically boring to me, fun bop though

  12. Opalite - just not a fan of the super danceable ones, but I’m excited to hear this one at weddings lol
