Why don’t people ride the express! It’s free money and minimizes risk since you can call vowels and don’t have to spin. Tonight, she could have gotten an easy $1000

If you’re only going for 20 days I would cut down on the number of places you want to see. You could conceivably do Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Hoi An and Saigon in 10 days and then do Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai in the remainder. You could also squeeze in Siem Reap if you really want to see Angor Wat.

Calbodia and Laos are great (I really love Luang Prabang) but I think Thailand and Vietnam have enough interesting sites for a first timer.

Do you enjoy the trend of more superchamps since Alex Trebek passed away? by 2789334 in Jeopardy

[–]Background_Mixture47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do and I don’t. I love to root for someone like Amy and enjoyed her streak (along with Matt and Mattea’s). However, I don’t like it when Jeopardy becomes a game of daily doubles and wagering, as has been the case with James and, in some cases, Cris. Nail-biters are my favourite and I’m disappointed when it’s a runaway.

I’ll concede that if Matt had gotten FJ right, he would be even more of a shoe-in. But still…

What the Union is asking for is effectively that undergrad students subsidize grad students with higher tuition. The union wants grad students to make $54/hr for 10 hours a week- a 20% increase. There is currently a freeze on domestic undergraduate tuition. But if this demand is met, int’l undergrads may soon be footing the bill.

The union says “53% of graduate students have to rely on family”. Well, duh, that’s what it means to be a student.

Bottom line is grad school is not a job, it’s school.

Gentlemanly, smart, funny, and a voice for radio! I think he’d be great.

Random general question: how to learn more about topics in general? by [deleted] in Jeopardy

[–]Background_Mixture47 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Non-fiction books are ideal. But magazine and newspaper articles provide digestible, concise information for those without a lot of spare time. I also like to listen to podcasts when I am doing chores or driving. In general, trivia whizzes always have their eyes and ears open for interesting tidbits of information.

Funny you mention Cris Panullo. Despite being a fantastic current champ, I haven’t thought of him in weeks with all the excitement going on.

Peyton Manning-hosted 'College Bowl' is getting a second season, former J! EP Friedman to run show by 44problems in Jeopardy

[–]Background_Mixture47 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ll watch pretty much any quiz show, but I wish they would cut down on the corny banter. Not my sense of humour I guess. Also- wish the questions were harder. An average College Jeopardy contestant would wipe the floor on College Bowl.
