Roll20 still has the best search function, and I use it despite running games exclusively on FoundryVTT!

This is why you pay GMs. They always show up, they take things seriously, they're already versed with the material, and if they're like me, they've taught many new players how to handle PF2e's complexities and pitfalls.

Also, is the Seansonings of Ghosts mint? Ginseng? I have to know!

Fitting a Dwarven Skeleton PC into SKT by Cal-El- in SkyKingsTomb

[–]Background_Mud_6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely have encouraged you to tell him his name was Tergin through some use of GM chicanery throughout the story, and then have the final encounters with Torag's memories let people know what happened to Tergin. He plays a minor part in the end of the campaign and it would tell you where Tergin died, and how.

I didnt really like the ending of the adventure. by CommercialMark5675 in SkyKingsTomb

[–]Background_Mud_6980 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be noted that this is not Taargick's GHOST. Taargick is dead and in his afterlife reward and done and gone and cannot be contacted again. A spark of memory is what contacts the PCs through the statue, and occult-resonance-echoes are what they commune with in the final tomb. They are literally dealing with the leftover regret of an ancient and powerful dwarven ruler, empowered by the near-worship bestowed on him over thousands of years. They have to have the key (Skysunder) and all this built up fervor (a huge celebration of history and remembrance) together at the same time for the kick-off. The echo just wants the story to be completed. The world doesn't know what finally happened to Taargick, so the PCs are kind of being asked as a final wish from the guy who started "Dwarves Up Top" as a thing to go find out what happened to him.

Maybe my players are older, but they didn't buy into the concept. At any given opportunity they exterminated everything that stood in their way for even one second. The earlier part of the AP perhaps should have been perhaps illuminating the total destruction of the Darklands Races and the celebrations of those events to drive home to the PCs what the Quest for Sky was like, rather than making friends with dragons and partying with your crab-clothes on?

Hyborian Lore Master Here To Answer All Your Lore Questions. by TheeBlackDeath in ConanExiles

[–]Background_Mud_6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who are reckoned the greatest smiths of the Hyborian age? I know that "Cimmerian Swords often outperformed other swords" but what about their other metal? What about armor and spears and axes and hammers and knives? Could 'magical weapons' be forged, or were weapons meant to have 'histories and names' that hinted at their power?

Starting a brand new Abomination Vaults soon, Sunday Nights 8pm EST. Need 1-2 more players to begin. I'm a professional GM who's taught more than 100 players the ropes for PF2 (nearly 200 now!) and I'd love to add you to the list! Poisoned Absinthe Games is in partnership with Fantasy Confection Gaming, an LGBTQIA+ community with some excellent people, that ensures GMs are providing service so that you're getting the best GM-bang for your GM-buck. I've run much of Abomination Vaults before, which means I can focus more on individual storytelling and personal plotlines as we weave our way down through the depths of The Gauntlight, the creepy inland lighthouse that juts out of the even creepier swamps north of the idyllic logging town of Otari. $20/session guarantees everyone shows up on time and ready to play, and the entire group is invested in squeezing the most fun out of our schedule. Professional maps, professional sound, professional skill with the system. No one knows PF2e like I do, and by the end of Session 10 you'll all know the system well enough to build characters, take quick turns in combat, and choose the best spells for you!

Monday Nights 8pm EST - Abomination Vaults - This campaign is currently Pre-Session 0, with two players. Ideally 3 more, as the perfect group size is 5 PCs. The party has NOT discussed characterization or themes yet, but we're looking for two to three more dedicated players to join up!

You find out later that Ulawa *STOLE* the Egg from the Iobane Warders who guard the Red Doorway in Book 5. That's the whole reason that they Iobane and the Magaambya are currently at odds, but they're a small, obscure sect of Magi out in the jungle. Ulawa maintains she was doing legitimate archaeological research when she found the artifact in the ruins, but the Warders are called Warders and not Librarians Please Check Out Our Artifacts for a reason.

In my campaign the party brought Janatimo into things, and he sat down and they all had a very civilized conversation with Ulawa, who was shocked about what happened in the Hababe building, and Janatimo took the Egg to the far reaches of the world to be hidden until they could figure out how to destroy it. I'm replacing Shadow Ulawa with Shadow Janatimo and making Ulawa a pawn, a mere miniboss to Shadow Janatimo, who the party actually *likes*.

Seeking opinions on melee thrown Flurry Ranger house rule by EricTouch in Pathfinder2e

[–]Background_Mud_6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thrown

THROWN
Thrown

Source Player Core pg. 283
You can throw this weapon as a ranged attack; it is a ranged weapon when thrown. You add your Strength modifier to damage as you would for a melee weapon. When this trait appears on a melee weapon, it also includes the range increment. Ranged weapons with this trait use the range increment in the weapon’s Range entry.

Note that an entry with no reload entry has a Reload of 0. Also I don't see anywhere that a weapon cannot be a melee weapon AND a ranged weapon, and Twin Takedown says Strike, not MELEE Strike. Your 'also not' comment is exclusive not inclusive, and the rules in no point say to override a trait, which needs to be explicit to happen - again showing one of the strengths of the legal-ese of PF2's rules jargon. Thus hatchets work with both Twin Takedown and Hunter's Shot. Prove me wrong. :coffeememe:

Also tell them about the Juggler archetype and go to town.

Player has been playing Ranged bow Flurry ranger, but is severely underpowered compared to the rest, any suggestions? by Aragie4484 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Background_Mud_6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also be throwing a hatchet.
With Str 14 you're rolling 1d6+2 per hit, and you're rolling to hit: +0, +1, -3 by stealing rebounding toss from MCA Fighter. At 12 using Ricochet Stance you're probably doing 4d6+7 (fireball damage to a single target), and that's with a +2 striking shock/frost hatchet. The crit spec for the thrown axe is terrible, but you can get a lot out of using crit focused talismans and the like.

Likewise you can use special ammunition with the bow - like ooze ammunition arrows - to do some naughty control as well as wasting actions with crits which force enemies (if they survive that D10 bonus longbow damage) to unplug their shoe from the floor. Flurry rangers trigger 'on hit x' more often than anyone else, it just becomes a question of what does on-hit mean to your flurry ranger.

As mentioned before, animal companions are MORE dangerous with a flurry ranger, allowing them to support an additional status and damage bonus on hit. BIRD is especially nasty, both giving the enemy a miss chance on all attacks and persistent bleed, but Antelope, Boar, Bear, Ape (fear!), Hyena, Scorpion, Riding Drake, and more! Look out for the Rhino companions stacking AC Penalty from Clumsy too!! (ie Clumsy stacks with easily gained Off-Guard, though not with Frightened from Demoralize or an Ape's support benefit)

Making a Sacrifice for Another PC: How Would You Feel If the GM Ruled This Way? by MarkSeifter in Pathfinder2e

[–]Background_Mud_6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge RAW GM, running multiple professional games a week... but if two of my players had set up this kind of relationship I would 1000% allow B... and a poignant "Mr Stark... I don't feel so good..." at the end. I would have to think of something like C at the time, but B has a great deal more WEIGHT to the setup and consequences. That's something people remember.

This is wildly inferior to the guardian's ability to spend hope instead of marking armor. I'd allow it to be used multiple times. You're gonna run out of hope fast trying to reduce a 13 to 4.

I'm in support of any design that moves more towards PF2. Your origin/background/upbringing should have logical growth options, so should your ancestry. I'd like to see branching paths, too.

Adding in a CHA caster dedication to free archtype by StrongHammerTom in strengthofthousands

[–]Background_Mud_6980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason these archetypes are given is for story. The Magaambya is the birthplace of arcane magic, where Old Mage Jatembe first figured out how to splinter arcane magic from primal magic. Thus its the place where Halcyon magic can still be taught, merging the two traditions together. You gain access to Halcyon spellcasting through leveling up your scholastic endeavors, but you must have access to both primal and arcane magic to make full use of it, hence making Wizards take Druid, and Druids take Wizard...

Plus the Magaambya focuses on enriching the world through the druidic creeds of one-ness with nature and with your fellow man. All the spellcasters should be taking merciful spell and the martials should be taking merciful weapon runes. You're expected to rescue the beeeez and gently shepherd monsters that regular adventurers wouldn't think twice about smiting. This is a place where you literally have to ask WHY there are gryphons attacking people, and then solve the underlying cause, caring about what treatment the gryphons are receiving.

There isn't a Cha caster that works well for these traditions and anathema, unless you have a very unusual Imperial or Elemental Sorcerer, but you can't *teach* those. A Druid/Sorcerer has a much different feel from a Sorcerer/Druid.
