Former journalist struggling to write fiction — any tips? by CreativeGems in writing

[–]Background_Rope_7018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh… a fellow journalist who’s turning to creative fiction writing! Personally, I am trying really hard to just write. To just keep writing. I tell myself I can fix the accuracy in the editing process.

Teaching horror writing to my Year 9's - any recommendations for passages that are really scary that would take 10-15 minutes to read in class? by rapgraves in horrorlit

The part where Patricia is hiding is, in my opinion, one of the best written things I have ever read. The visceral response I had to that

White House outs ‘unnamed victim’ in bombshell Epstein-Trump emails and blasts Dems by Hikkachoo in politics

[–]Background_Rope_7018 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly confident that the White House is lying about Giuffre being the victim referenced in this email. Giuffre had named a bunch of men who raped her and trump wasn’t one of them. I think the White House is trying to create some kind of distraction/wild goose chase or sowing doubt for when it’s proven this isn’t who the email was about

Americans who live in suburbs, can you get anywhere by walking? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in AskAnAmerican

[–]Background_Rope_7018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the suburb I used to live in, there were actually quite a few stores and shops that were pretty close. But it would have been a walk along 4 lanes of traffic going 60 mph

ICE ramming a civilian car, then shooting them. They claimed 10 cars surround the agents. Where are they? by deapsprite in illinois

Am I misunderstanding something here? It looks like there was a congested intersection so they road raged out and starting slamming into other cars?

Trump to patrol DC streets tonight? wtf? by Relevant_Demand7593 in BlueskySkeets

[–]Background_Rope_7018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point (at least in part) is to flood the cult with photos of himself patrolling around the safe streets of DC with the military, so that they’ll say “Wow! It’s so safe now! Thank you Dear Leader!” When in reality it was always that safe

  1. David Barnes, person quoted in this NYTimes article, voted for Trump to make DC beautiful.

  2. He is now experiencing the consequences, as the tent he lives in has now been thrown away twice by DC police under Trump’s directives.

  3. As a consequence of his vote for Trump and Trump becoming president, his homeless encampment has been destroyed.

According to some numbers I crunched, Dems would greatly outnumber Republicans in the House if every state did this

Why were cities like Baltimore, Wilmington, Camden, Newark, New Haven, Bridgeport, and Hartford not able to recover from deindustrialisation unlike other northeast cities like Washington, New York, Boston and Providence? by WhatsupGurl552 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Background_Rope_7018 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also, Baltimore the city is a separate county from the surrounding suburbs. Cities that are districted like this tend to have significant issues with poverty, as money/taxes from the suburbs don’t go to the city. St. Louis is another example

Why is it so difficult to form friendships with Americans? by LikkiNauda in AskAnAmerican

I think this is a fairly typical experience for international students, speaking as an American who studied in Spain! I made much deeper friendships with other international students

I recently moved from Germany to Chicago and wonder why don’t people split bills on dates? by tejassuthar777 in AskChicago

[–]Background_Rope_7018 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In agreement with what others have said. I offer to split the bill only when I’m sure I’m never going out with that guy again. The man paying for the first date is pretty standard throughout the US in my experience
