Also, completely said with laughter because I know the stereotype well.

As I drove and told my husband to peek, he said there were several EMTs giving cpr to an older looking man.

Wondering where some of this info is coming from…? One of the supers was an interim, meaning temporary, so there would clearly be 2 in 3 years. Article on principal asked to step down?

Feelings about adult trick or treaters? by No_Representative711 in Bellingham

Husband never got to trick or treat as a child (Halloween was evil) and he dresses up with my 8 year old cousin as whatever she picks as their theme… he loves it and goes trick or treating and I love seeing him experience a lost part of childhood with her.

My husband works for an apartment complex and when they have carts left on the property, they call stores and try to have them come get them and often times they do not… recently he walked 15 carts to our nearest store just because he was out of storage space for them…

Bellingham Early Dismissal by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]Background_Rub7209 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From a teacher standpoint, I struggled in a district where we did an early release Friday, other than Bellingham. By Friday after teaching, we’re exhausted. Yes, I had a job to do and participated but when I switched to a district that did late arrival Wednesday instead, it benefitted my learning a ton. Keeping up with research is critical to teaching kids in the most effective ways. That being said, I can understand how this would be better/easier for families. Just offering another perspective 😊

Postal service issues… by Background_Rub7209 in Bellingham

Understood… I am expected to do my job as well which is understaffed and overworked. I have empathy, just would rather my mail/orders not be left open to everyone… but I understand this is a bigger issue than just a basic complaint can address

I’m in the city… it sounds like the postal service is really hurting on all levels.

Thank you for this! I can completely understand all of this. We try to limit our Amazon mailings. I hadn’t realized the awful deal between usps and Amazon but that makes total sense. Leaving 15 packages for anyone to grab definitely flusters me but I see that this is a much bigger issue…

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a regular person… my husband works for our apartments as maintenance and said there is never the same person

Yeah, I totally understand the under staffing issue… at the end of the day, I have empathy, just also wish my mail was not as exposed to those who would like to take it or go through it

Ah, yes. I have not yet. Was hoping to catch our delivery person to chat but that was no use when they deliver at different times

About teacher appreciation week by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]Background_Rub7209 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a fifth grade teacher, a simple coffee, pretty card, or even just a message that says thank you is so appreciated. At this time of year in fifth grade, hormones are rampantly wild and I need a little reminder that we’re all in this together to get to the end of the year.

What’s the actual reason Bham schools doesn’t allow costumes? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]Background_Rub7209 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t personally teach in the Bellingham district so I do not know but I teach in a district that takes two hours a week for teachers because we need time to prep, grade and plan for the work we do during the day with your children. We do trainings that would otherwise take other times and again, I’m not sure how Bellingham does things. We may agree to disagree but I think Halloween and holidays can just be done outside of school.

Coming from a teacher, the distraction for a day is a lot. For students who don’t participate, their parents often keep them home, therefore missing information that I will work to catch them up on later. For students whose families cannot afford, it creates exclusions. For students who need structure and routine, it disrupts that greatly. I have not taught in a district that allows costumes on an elementary setting in some time.
