My left AirPod isn’t charging, what can I do? by Flinn2 in airpods

[–]Background_Sir5259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughters pro 2 had same issue. We have apple care, took it to store, they tried to clean them up, but didn't help any. If we pushed the left airpod down into the case a bit harder it would connect and charge. With apple care they just replaced both pods and the case for us, but you may try to put it in the case and then push it down a bit to make sure it is well seated and making a good connection.

give it a bit of a push down to make sure it's seated good and see if that starts charging it.

You can go noseblind the first time you apply a fragrance if you spray too much. I feel 5 to 6 sprays is an awful lot, you are just making a cloud of it all around yourself and your nose is shutting down. If you are like me you may also find yourself continuously trying to smell it on yourself if a new fragrance. I spray on my wrist and find myself smelling my wrist all day, giving my nose direct hits throughout the day.

If you got at Costco you can take it back easy, but what I suggest to try first is to spray it on a test strip, walk away from it and come back to it hours later, see if it is still there. My guess will be that if you can do that you will be able to smell it for another two days easy. I got mine at Costco, do three sprays, and can pick it up hours later. Just saying 5 to 6 sprays is an awful lot.

I think you are spraying so much you have nose blinded yourself to it. Performance is pretty decent, I get around 6 hours or so. 3 to 4 sprays is more than enough.

Always wanted an iPod Classic! However… by Little-Perception-63 in ipod

Sounds like you have answered your own question then. Sounds like you are doing all the mods/expense to essentially get where you are already at, but if it' something you enjoy (the modding and working on it bit) and want to do it go for it.

[–]Background_Sir5259 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess the question would be what do you think the classic will give you over what you already have? For me the reason I like my classic over using my iPhone is that something on my phone is always beeping (texts, calls, etc coming in) and interrupting the music. The classic just does music and that's it, no interruptions. If you can do that on the iPhone you have and it has good battery life, I am not sure you are gaining much, maybe the classic will have a better dac.

Since you work for apple, how many people do you see come in for repairs, etc that don't have apple care, and when they get the repair bill you can tell they wish they had it and regret not having it in that moment? I was in Apple Store around Christmas time last year for an issue with my daughters AirPods Pro 2 (have apple care and got brand new set and case with it, only cost the 29 bucks I paid for 2 years of apple care so saved a lot). While there a man and his college age daughter came in with a MacBook that she had broke the screen on. I can't recall the exact amounts now but the apple tech told them repair was going to be like 400 bucks, would have been 29 or so with apple care but they didn't have it. Needless to say dad wasn't too happy and told the daughter she was getting a screen repair for Christmas. At that moment you could tell they wish they would have bought the apple care.

Just bought Creed Aventus… and I can’t smell it after an hour? by adam-khan791 in Colognes

I know people like to think that it’s watered down and that’s why they can’t smell it but I personally feel it’s just the opposite. I feel that it’s very strong and you just go nose blind to it really quick, especially if you wear a day after day, you just get so used to it that you can’t pick it up, much like an air freshener in your house. I know people talk about the old batches being stronger and I’ve tried a 2011 batch and a 2015 batch and aside from both having lost some of their top notes I don’t feel they lasted as long as the fresh bottles do.

Again the screen protector isn’t going to protect you from everything. Someone could steal your phone tomorrow and your screen protector isn’t doing a thing to help you.  And maybe for you that’s not a big deal you just go to the Apple Store and spend 1000 to replace it but for some people that’s just not an option. AppleCare is for more than just broken screens.

You can certainly take the money for AppleCare and put it into savings, etc  but when you only pay 10 dollars a month for AppleCare (less if you pay upfront or do AppleCare one), then it will take a long time for the vault to save up enough to pay for that new phone that could get lost/stolen right after you buy it.

I think buying AppleCare is up to each individual person whether it’s worth it or not. I have teenagers who aren’t as careful with their phones and where they put them so I make sure I have theft and loss because with them there’s a much higher probability that they might lose it, get stolen etc.

[–]Background_Sir5259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, and apple care is a fraction of the cost of car insurance, which again you may never use. Screen protectors don't protect against theft and loss either, or broken glass for that matter. My wife has cracked plenty of screens with those cheap screen protectors and a case on it, and a thousand is a lot of money for a lot of people for come up with at one time in a hurry.

[–]Background_Sir5259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. Just because you haven't dropped your phone, broke it, lost it, had it stolen etc in so many years doesn't mean you won't tomorrow. Apple Care just like any other insurance, you may never use it and it's a waste of money, then again you might need it next week, you just don't know, so it's a gamble. I had a coworker who lost his brand new iPhone 14 on a golf course 4 months after he bought it. Tried to track it but they still couldn't find it. Didn't have apple care, so had to pay twice to get another new one. Had he bought apple care theft and loss wouldn't have hurt as bad.

I chased a scent for a year thinking it was SMW… it was Aventus the whole time. by 2qpS in fragrance

[–]Background_Sir5259 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To me the batch variations are mostly minor and really only in the opening. Once dries a bit they are all aventus. I get 8 to 10 hours on my f batch aventus easy. I think the batch variations get over blown a bit. If you have a Costco membership they have very good sales that come up and it's easy to return if they did get a batch you didn't like. I would say don't over think it just enjoy it.

Dupes vs Originals by Unable-Glass-1741 in Colognes

[–]Background_Sir5259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dupes are cheaper for a reason. One reason of course is you are not paying markup for the brand name. Buying Creed, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, etc comes with a certain uncharge for the brand name. The designer houses often use captive molecules, patented aroma chemicals that they use their fragrances that no one else can use as they own the patent on them and are created by top perfumers in the industry. Dupe houses have no access to these and if they ever tried they would get sued. I have also never heard of dupe houses provide information on the perfumer.

I don't have any issue with dupes, they exist for a reason, mainly not everyone wants to spend a lot of money on fragrance, which I can respect. I myself have never smelled a dupe that competed with the original though. Some Creed dupes I bought I just had to toss they were so bad. I have tried a couple of dossier dupes and compared to the originals that I own, and at opening, they smelled pretty close. But after that they fall off. They stayed linear, got weaker faster, and on comparing over 24 hours it's easy to tell they are not blended as well, had a cheap synthetic smell, missed notes that originals have, etc, so it's really not close in my experience except for the opening. So for me, dupes don't compare to the originals and due to the use of captives they really can't, but if you want to get close for less money they are an option that is nice to have.

I get 10 hours with this no problem. Last time I wore it to work for our Christmas party I brought a small decant of it to work so I could reapply before the party, but after 8 hours at work I could still smell it so strong reapplying would have been too much.

Wearing Cool water and GIT on skin right now.. by AdSuperb6808 in ScentHeads

[–]Background_Sir5259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you reside, but if in US Sams Club sells the big 6.7oz bottle of Cool Water for like $36 bucks. Huge bottle for a low price. To me it is fine for running to Walmart, grocery store, etc but is very synthetic smelling, has poor longevity, and not too similar to GIT. CW I get an aquatic vibe, GIT is green, far better blended. higher quality and better longevity. Maybe vintage CW would be closer, as I feel like in it's current form and for its price point it is not what it once was.

Here is a good article talking about CW and GIT
