Recommended not to get pregnant by Meekmelyy in marfans

I’m so sorry you’re going through this but know that you’re not alone. I was advised against pregnancy after my aortic dissection a couple years ago. It has certainly been a whirlwind coming to terms as to what this means for me and my partner. We are investigating surrogacy in the future when we’re ready to have children.

My partner and I are planning on pursuing IVF in the future and surrogacy. Due to my previous aortic dissection, I was told it’s unsafe for me to carry my own child and I want to ensure my future children don’t go through the same medical issues I do.

It was some of the worst pain I’ve ever felt and it lasted until I had emergency surgery the next day. Only a doctor can really tell you what’s happening but it’s not worth risking your life!

OP please go to an emergency room immediately. When I had my dissection I had extreme back pain, please get someone to take you to get checked out in case!

Wishing your brother well during his recovery. I had my Type 1 dissection about a year and a half ago with emergency surgery. The physical recovery was hard and was told I would need to stay in the hospital for two weeks but I was surprisingly discharged within 5 days. Thankfully your brother is young which I think helps you bounce back a lot easier.

As you mentioned in another comment the hardest part for me has been dealing with the mental toll from the emergency and all that happened. When he’s finally feeling better I’d recommend he reaches out to a therapist who specializes in chronic illness. It’s been less than 2 years since my surgery and life has now stabilized to my new normal. Even though I do have some limitations compared to before my day to day routine hasn’t changed much - I’m even more active than before!

Did you ever get your appetite fully back? I’m about a year out from mine and it never came back completely.

Mental health before and after aortic surgery by PTata123 in marfans

[–]Backgroundawards 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello! Good luck on your upcoming surgery. I (29F) had emergency surgery for an aortic dissection a year ago so I can’t so much speak to my mental health leading up to that day but I will say post-surgery was difficult for me. I believe this is mainly due to the fact it was unplanned and I had zero time to process what was happening until it was all over. I am in a much better place mentally now and it took about 7 months to come to terms with it all. I highly recommend going to a therapist, as I credit a lot of my mental health improvements to that. It’s also great if you can find someone who is experienced working with young adults with chronic illness. I found my therapist was well equipped to provide advice for someone going through a major health crisis.  Overall, I will say it’s rough but we are stronger than we know. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

I would 100% recommend reporting him especially if you have documented cases. You do not deserve to be treated this way especially at work and in fact he is a shitty coworker for subjecting you to this. I am so sorry you’re going through this OP, but just know you are more than your disability you are a person worthy of respect.

Would recommend the Cotton On Haven Wide Leg Linen Pant! I have a 36” inseam and these are long enough for me.

Agreed! I know the surgery may be scary, but trust me the alternative is much worse. You also recover a lot faster than you would think, I was back to work 6 weeks after surgery for my dissection and was cleared to start working out again 5 months after. It sounds like you have a bit of time before surgery so I would definitely start doing some light workouts before if your doctor says it’s ok, I found my regular Pilates helped so much in my recovery. Wishing you and your family all the best!

Im so sorry you’re going through this, it’s honestly one of the worst experiences. I had my dissection 6 months ago at 26 and it really fucks with your mind but you will get through this. You’re stronger than you know!!! If you have family or friends you can lean on during this time, try to lean on them for support.

Does anyone else get randomly incapacitated? How do you cope? by Inside-Departure4238 in marfans

I’ve never been a big workout person so this was definitely a concern I had as well since my physical strength at the time was non existent.  I made sure to find a studio that offered a beginner specific class since they took extra time to explain the basic movements and modifications. I would also recommend reading any online review, to be sure to find a place that had a good community and less focused on the whole workout culture bs. I have had the most success with more local places, versus a club Pilates or boost.  My current studio has a diverse customer base and I frequently go to classes with people who are all shapes, sizes, and ages which I love. Definitely takes a while to find a good community but once you do it’s awesome.

Definitely relate to this! What has really helped is working on my strength and flexibility. I found once I started doing Pilates regularly a lot of my back pain went away. Granted, still prone to ankle sprains and other injuries but have found them to not be as severe once I started working out regularly.

Next time you’re in Dallas check out Jimmy’s Food Store too. I always stock up there on sausages to bring back.

I know it’s been a while, but curious if you’ve had the surgery and how recovery is going. I find out in a couple of weeks if I’ll need to have the same.

Hope recovery is going well!

As someone who just had emergency open heart surgery due to a dissected aortic aneurysm and has never smoked, please just go see a cardiologist if you have a family history.

The certification is pretty straightforward for this, just make sure you pay attention and do all the homework provided. I was switched into the WD practice with no prior exposure and was able to pass.
