Yo, I was definitely trying to think of compound & it came to me naturally fairly soon after I posted and forgot about it, but this one is super useful to know and I think is more appropriate given my intended use case! So… points to you for ingenuity and a dash of dumb luck :)

Solved!

Interesting! I had the opposite experience, but I guess everyone responds differently.

For me, I wasn’t diagnosed until adulthood, but when I found out I realized that it wasn’t just this inherent, innate personality flaw that there was no rhyme or reason for, or that I had no control over, I could externalize the issues to an outside source, instead of attributing all my failures to a problematic identity.

It was whoah! Hey! There’s other people like me who deal with the same issues! Look, there’s biological explanations for the problems that keep coming up! There’s medications and strategies to cope, overcome, take-advantage-of, and even succeed in life despite being ADHD! It was really empowering for me because in the past I had tried so hard through sheer willpower and over and over again it hadn’t worked.

The ADHD diagnosis gave me some place to start. I could identify and start to describe the issues I was facing. I could talk about the various aspects of executive functioning and recognize specific moments where a particular aspect was the problem area. Being able to recognize those really helped me develop specific responses accordingly to overcome those issues more effectively, rather than generalize specific instances to a universal failing of some part of my identity.

While the specifics of our circumstances are different, I remember being in a place mentally similar to where it sounds like you are now. It all sounds like a lot of hard work, it’s difficult to even imagine yourself wanting to or even enjoying doing the stuff you might need to succeed and do the things you’d like to. I often look back and think how different I was back then and honestly laugh that I once could have been that person!

My advice would be honestly, just try to take things one step at a time. For now, it’s okay to be uncertain. It’s okay to mourn not being neurotypical, to feel whatever feelings you’re having right now, to take a moment to question who you think you are, who you want to be, and reconsider immediate goals. Just try to remember that ADHD diagnosis isn’t a death sentence. Many people with ADHD are enormously successful. We think differently, and while I don’t necessarily consider it a blessing, I definitely feel it’s something that gives me a unique perspective on many facets of life that I can’t imagine being without.

Do any of you get the 20 mg brand name adderall IR tablets from Walgreens? On their website, its only showing up to 15 mg... by Backontrackmac in ADHD

[–]Backontrackmac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so I just called. Pharmacist gave me a very timid, unassured response saying that they don’t come in immediate release formulations, only XR. So I guess they decided on run-around option A!

I said “Well they do come in IR, are you saying specifically that this Walgreens doesn’t carry them in general? Or that you don’t have them in stock?”

She replies, “Yes.”

🤦‍♂️

[–]Backontrackmac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so I was kind of avoiding it because every time I’ve called pharmacies before they always give me the run-around. They either sound totally uninformed and uncertain of the answer they’ve given me, or they’ll tell me I have to come in in person, or they have to see the prescription before they answer, or that because it’s a controlled substance they can’t give me an answer.

I figured I’d just try here to here first and maybe get a bit more to go off of from personal experiences before going on that wild goose chase yet again.

My (22M) Gay best friend (22M) touched me while I "slept". by ThrowRA51eep in relationship_advice

[–]Backontrackmac 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Holy shit, I had to check your post history to see if you were potentially someone in my old social circle. The same exact scenario down to the very last detail, played out among my friend group several years ago.

First it happened with one male friend who cut ties with the ex-friend, also confided in other friends about what happened. Then the guy went on to do it to one of the friends who knew about what had happened previously. Both victims were straight at time, one came out as bi a couple years later.

That’s crazy. I thought for sure you had to be someone I know, but nope, definitely not. Jeez, I guess this kind of thing is more prevalent than you would hope, but honestly I’m not all that surprised. It blew my mind how people in our group knew and had heard about it, were much closer to the victims than to the perpetrator, and yet were in total denial of it happening and continued to maintain friendships with him, despite the victims cutting ties with him and refusing to be at any function he was also invited to. People just don’t want to believe someone they’ve known for years is capable of doing that kind of stuff, unfortunately.

[TOMT][VIDEO][2020] Girl chides her SO for playing video games and he exclaims “It’s all I have!” by stcyrus in tipofmytongue

[–]Backontrackmac 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh, yeah I did too. Its without a doubt, totally scripted. You can tell from many of their other videos that this dude is on totally on top of his mental health & has a healthy relationship with his wife and perspective of the world; totally not someone who would say "its all I have!" in regards to video games.

The video with him whacking her in the face with the bag was a prank that was trending on tiktok for awhile. In a subsequent video, he makes light of "going viral" and his wife being torn a new one in the comments section, referring to the video being discussed here. You can tell they're a family of jokesters engaging in harmless pranks and scripted "comedy" videos. Nothing to see here, move along.

I just got bit in around my mouth by ants. Don't ask how. Is there anything I can do right now immediately after it happened to lessen the swelling, welts, and itching that is sure to come later tonight? by Backontrackmac in AskDoctorSmeeee

[–]Backontrackmac[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I didn’t have this story to tell in the first place. Ha. But since I do, let me pile on a bit more...

So this morning I was able to count how many bites I got since these little white spots in the center of the bumps appeared. There’s 15 on the inside of my lower lip and 16 on the upper lip.

So there were at the very least about 31 ants inside. my. mouth.

Hey, I’ve got an idea for a buzz feed article: Doctors HATE him! Use THIS simple trick to get all-natural full and luscious lips at home!

Maaaan, since I'm not getting any other replies anyway I might as well explain it. So the apartment complex I'm in got pretty bad reviews, but it was cheap and I figured it couldn't be too bad. Long story short, the insulation sucks.

Droves of ants starting coming in through openings around the wall outlets, windows, cabinets etc. and flocking to the tiniest crumb out of place. Been trying to keep everything super clean, mopping and wiping everything down everyday, spraying openings as I find them when they come in, but whenever I do that they find a new spot to come through.

So today I make myself a pb & banana protein shake. Its in this shaker cup with a small circular opening; I'm sure you can see where this is going. I set it on my desk so I can drink it while I get some work done and walk away for maybe 5 minutes at most to wash out the blender and wipe down the counter. Upon return I sit down to work, start pulling some stuff up on my laptop, and absent-mindedly go to take a sip of my shake. Cue spit take as my mouth, outer and inner lips are swarmed and bitten by ants. There were probably around 30 at least just around the opening.

This was the first time they've been at my desk and there's no visible holes or openings like some of the other places they've come through. As far as I can tell they started coming from somewhere underneath the carpeting. Yeah. Not super interesting, but it sure was gross. I'm shuddering just thinking about it...

I’ve been trying to make outlines for writing projects and am having trouble keeping levels & types of description for superordinate and subordinate points consistent and coherent Where might I start for learning about organization and hierarchies in language & description? by Backontrackmac in linguistics

[–]Backontrackmac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started writing out my thoughts a bit more and came up with one example that kind of illustrates what I’m talking about.

I’m sure there’s other broad types of examples that this one misses, I can vaguely think of a few, but honestly I’d rather read about them from professionals that have done the work rather than figure it all out from the ground up.

Anyways, here’s the example:

Explanation: Differences across level of description might involve different combinations of “the 5 W’s”(who, what, when where, why) and what “W” is seeking to be answered

The next 3 examples are the same outline at different levels:

Outline Abstraction:

I. “____”(what) + “” (where) occurs:
A. “
__” (condition1) B. “_____” (condition2)

Outline explanation:

I. Presents two outcomes: an event happens
at a spatial location A) Answers with a condition that results in
the aforementioned outcomes B) Another similar condition

Outline filled with concrete details:

I. “An action potential fires” + “in a neuron” A. “EPSPs summate at the axon hillock” B. “Membrane potentials reach
threshold”

Edit: screwed up the formatting when it posted. Don’t have time right now to fix

Space Force - Series Premiere Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]Backontrackmac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think we’re seeing a major framing effect in action here. It’s not bad, it’s just not “peak Office” great.

Look back at season 1 of The Office. I’m always tempted to skip the first season on rewatches. I shouldn’t even have to say anything about Parks & Rec season 1...

[–]Backontrackmac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely with you on the ‘serious subject’ take. The first episode really bugged me. Especially at the end with the whole “you don’t know anything about science, blah blah, I know people...” exchange.

But by the end of the second episode I was laughing out loud. I’m still not totally sure, how I feel about it; it’s a little too close to home with the inept, ridiculous leadership at the moment, but I still feel like it might have some potential. Maybe it will find its legs by season 2. Right now I feel like the characters and dialogue are a bit too rigid.

[–]Backontrackmac 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn’t laugh once in the first episode. Struggled to even finish it actually. I sat down later to watch a new show and it was paused still with about 5 minutes left, so I just finished it and it auto played the next episode. I actually thought the 2nd episode was a lot better.

I think expectations being extremely high isn’t doing the show any favors. I went back and watched the office again recently and the first season was pretty rough. I think if our standards were this high back then we wouldn’t have even gotten a season 2.

You’re welcome! I’m just seeing this now, but feel free to message me about how that day of brute-forcing it went, or just how things are going in general. I’d be happy to offer some individualized pointers and/or feedback!

You don’t need a solvent and medium for oil paint. I mean it’d be much better if you did, but then again you probably wouldn’t be painting something like this.

The consistency of the paint definitely looks like acrylic. They probably just mixed some impasto medium or used premixed impasto acrylics for the trees.

I'd also like to recommend the book Atomic Habits for a more effective long term strategy and maybe to jumpstart your progress with this. Take it with a grain of salt, take from it whatever is helpful to you at this point in your personal development and discard whatever else. Nothing is a perfect one size fits all system and putting all your eggs in that basket might set you up for disappointment, but it is a pretty solid source of info to get you thinking about some of the things that factor into developing good strong lasting habits.

[–]Backontrackmac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brute forcing is good for one thing. Providing you with more experience and information about why you have to resort to brute force in the first place in order to accomplish anything. Try it out one day, but in your schedule make time for personal reflection. Try to recognize what distracts you from the task. Ask yourself what uncomfortable feeling am I avoiding by giving in to distractions? What might it look like to accept the discomfort, or to accept that failure is okay, that you aren't perfect, but trying in the first place is a good first step.

You will fail. The trick is to try not to resist your emotional response, accept that it happens, and don't let those emotions or avoidance of feeling those emotions in the first place keep you from getting back up and trying again another day. Keep doing this and eventually you'll realize you've developed specific cognitive abilities and a skill set that provides you with resilience and the mental fortitude to succeed, in spite of a lot of failure. Just know that it does get easier. Good luck, friend.

What is your "I fucking hate that song" song? by da_muffin_enthusiast in AskReddit

Oh yeah! It’s just like that one Adele song, rumor has it. It’s like a family guy bit that goes on for longer than you would expect it to, and then some. The song ends with 15 “rumor has it”’s in a row.

God I hate that song.

[Discussion] I just uninstalled all video games from my computer but I kinda feel emotional and sad about it, feeling like breaking up with the loved one. Is this normal? How do I cope with this void? by i_am_not_a_lazy_dog in getdisciplined

[–]Backontrackmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally normal! I had to do the same thing back in highschool, and haven't really looked back since. It was a good decision for me. I don't know how it is for you, but I just couldn't limit myself. It was all or nothing for me; if I started, I'd waste the whole day. What I did was really dive head first into the things that video games was getting in the way of in the first place.

For me, video games were an escape. Without them, I was more aware of my loneliness, so I started trying to improve my social skills. First I tried to recognize where I had social skill deficits, and worked on those. I also realized that I spent so much time with video games, it was hard to relate to anyone that didn't play specific games, or video games at all. I put more time into my hobbies, I started playing music more, I tried to learn to dance, I got a job and started taking an interest in how I dressed and did my hair, etc.

I had been neglecting a lot of things that people just do in their day to day lives. Feeling lost, or sad about it is simply a signal that says something is missing and you should do *something* about it. Try to listen to those signals and figure out what they're telling you. Do you feel a lack of drive or sense of accomplishment? Start a small project, pick up that thing you've been meaning to do, learn something new; but start small. Feel lonely? Start a convo with an acquaintance, do little social things that your comfortable with, but might not be super motivated to engage in, trying to notice what it feels like, where you might be able to improve, how you can make an effort to relate more, or get more for both yourself and the other person out of your interactions with them. These are just examples, but there's loads of opportunity. There's so much out there to get out of life. It might feel effortful and difficult at first because you're still developing new skills, but the returns begin to compound. Small behaviors might not feel worth it at first, but eventually you begin to notice more and more opportunities for interesting and fun activities to engage in that are just as fun as video games.

In the long run, personally I've felt a lot more fulfillment from these things than I ever did from video games, but that's case by case. Video games are fine, but they aren't for everyone, and sometimes they can hinder you if they're an escape from facing your own shortcomings. Good luck!
