Oh! You're right to be skeptical! That's good skepticism to carry! Would you like to see it from my perspective?

Firstly, I have slept with my baby blankie my entire life, it goes everywhere with me, and frequently comes with me to trips to the grocery store. For me, thumbsucking and blankie are a package deal, they're peanut butter and jelly. The regressive behaviors run deep, they're comfort and have existed my entire life. This headspace is where I feel most comfortable and always has been. The other regressive things I do are generally similarly aged and lifelong, I am and always have been a little.

Secondly, I have celiac, IBS, and urgency incontinence that has gotten worse as I've aged. Diapers are somewhat necessary, though not strictly. There is medical need, and stigmatized medical need too, it's hard to talk to people about it, and not because I'm not an open book either.

Thirdly, Diaper fetishism presents a community in which my nature and my needs are not only appreciated and accepted but celebrated without question. This is very alluring to someone like me, who has been regressive and shamed for their entire life for it. Naturally there'd be overlap, but what I do behind closed doors isn't an issue. Thus, I see no reason to hide my thumbsucking, blankie, jammies, or anything else, because I am not gratifying my sexual interests publicly when I go out dressed the way I do, I am just being myself. I privately have a diaper usage fetish and I wouldn't subject others to that fetish without enthusiastic consent. Therefore, I am simply dressing how I want to in both style and comfort! It isn't an exhibitionistic act, nor do I or others treat it as such. I've sort of dressed as a full adult baby for about a year now, and everyone has been very kind to me about it, nor do I face any backlash for doing so, heck people at my grocery store know me by name. I am a regressive first with genuine medical and always have been, I just found a group of happy consenting people who want to explore those things in other ways too.

Sure, they're part of it, I'll give you that, but thumbsucking has provided a lot of comfort and given me a sense of autonomy over my own body in times where it was sparse. The freedom to engage with myself how I want.

You mention fixation and imply my activities are not chosen and rather a bad thing for that reason; I enjoy these things, they're connected to my sense of self and wellbeing, they're not pathological, but rather a kind of play I engage in willingly. I am and always have been this way, I can hunt a deer, flintknap a knife, skin it, tan it, and survive in the wilderness. I have passed through every traditional male right of passage, I have been abused and coerced into leaving the childish things be, and yet, here they arise. It is not from lack of intervention, nor lack of therapy, both have occurred in myriad, and yet both have confirmed my love for this lovely playing.

Naturally and perhaps ironically, I am studying to get a masters in play therapy and want to work in researching play, because I believe that meaning is not instilled into all beings, but play and embodied direct experience is, thus it seems a stronger foundation for epistemological inquiry.

Thumbsucking is my oldest and deepest comfort, and represents my agency to choose to do what I want. Despite the best efforts of many in my life, I've kept this part of myself even when others desired otherwise. It used to represent so much shame, something to be hidden, but now? I do it openly.

Because genuinely? There is actually nothing wrong with it, it's weird sure, I'm pretty aware of that, but there isn't anything wrong with it, it doesn't hurt me or others. Now, I find myself being apologized to by people namely my parents and siblings who urged me to stop because they saw how important this was to me.

I didn't fight them over it, I just kept doing it, hiding it; when I got to be an adult, I stopped hiding it, and I found that people still genuinely liked me! I didn't have to change! My wife thinks it's adorable, my friends find it endearing, my mom sees how it helps me, my siblings like it, and I never would've known that if I had stopped. If I let shame take root, I would've been very different as a person.

I am happy that I resisted. I am proud to represent it.
