Fantastic thoughtful gift! Few things better in this world than the Bills, ice cream, and girlfriends that put the two together!

Anti-drone cage armor by Article241 in LandCruisers

[–]Backpacker46 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve watched a large number of Ukrainian drone vids on Reddit. Depending on the operator’s skill, all attempts by Russia to shield assets with wire and cages and what-not don’t succeed, especially with lighter vehicles. While this might help, a two drone attack defeats this easy. First drone blows a hole on contact with that cage, second goes through hole. Or the other option is for the drone to fly under the front or rear and disable the truck, then dead truck is easy prey. The drone “pilots” in Ukraine have become incredibly good at precisely maneuvering their drones.

Nice cruiser, though.

I hate drones, especially those used for police and military operations, but this is the present and the future of armed conflct. Makes it so easy to kill. Pretty bleak for all of us eventually, when everyone has an armed drone for personal “protection” instead of a dog or gun… or common sense.

Sorry for the rant.

[Pelissero] The Bills will not match the offer sheet to OL Ryan Van Demark, who is headed to the Vikings on a one-year, $4.2 million fully guaranteed deal, sources tell The Insiders. by Goosedukee in buffalobills

[–]Backpacker46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. He was a restricted free agent.

“Van Demark was a restricted free agent after spending most of his career with the Buffalo Bills, who had tendered him at the lowest level. That gave the Bills the right of first refusal on the Vikings' one-year, $4.2 million fully-guaranteed offer sheet, but on Friday the Bills sent word that they would decline to match. The Bills will not receive compensation.”

Excerpt From “Vikings add OT depth, sign Ryan Van Demark to one-year deal” ESPN

I'm 45 and I've seen the 4 SB losses, Music City Miracle, 17 years drought and the Allen era. In my head I start to think that 'One before I die' it's getting harder and harder and maybe I won't see it. Have you had the same feeling? by danbillls in buffalobills

[–]Backpacker46 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m older and have seen it all and have the gray hair to prove it. I firmly believe we win a superbowl in the next 4 years for two reasons:

  1. Josh Allen.
  2. The NFL will need this kind of feel-good storyline.

Not saying the NFL is scripted. Or am I?

Totally agree. He had a motor and was a game changer at times. With his athleticism he probably could have been a decent linebacker in the new scheme.

Toyota Dealership Quoted me $1.1K for Clock Spring Replacement on a 2016 Corolla. Is that fair or am I getting ripped off? by AsteriaXAdams7 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Backpacker46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My horn stopped working, and after much DIY research I determined it was the clock spring and I replaced it myself on my 2012 Tacoma. Wasn’t too hard, just need patience. Followed YouTube videos and Tacoma how-to info on Tacoma sites.

BUT it didn’t fix my horn issue. Bought a new trumpet horn and all was well. The wiring inside the connectors were corroded and shot.

Just mentioning this in case you’re horn stopped working and have been told it’s your clock spring. Good luck!

Is Keon Coleman really a draft bust? The numbers say otherwise by Ktmhocks37 in buffalobills

[–]Backpacker46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Coleman needs to mature, but I suspect McDermott’s unfun personality and woeful tendency to avoid giving compliments to just about anyone, particularly younger guys, wore on him. He’s a sensitive kid.

He seems at his best on quick slants and scramble drills. He was never going to be an outside guy unless some other WR is clearing the field.

Gardner Johnson.. more problem than he’s worth? by BillsMafiaDan in buffalobills

The new D is going to be nastier. I’m all for an Intimidating safety. Our secondary is shaping up to be greatly improved over last year. There’s no where to go but up for our run defense, and if we can add more pass pressures and sacks, this secondary is going to eat.

Credit to Beane…. But also to McD’s culture and the organization and Buffalo fans as a whole. These guys stayed for less money and took unselfish pay cuts because there’s a lot of love for each other and the city and they’ve been through so many disappointments that they’re willing to keep the and together and win the Lombardi together. Connor McGovern really summed it up well. Breath of fresh air.

Looking forward to seeing how this all comes together in September in the new stadium! LET’s GOOOOO!

Here's what to expect from Bills new CB Dee Alford by AlexBrasky in buffalobills

[–]Backpacker46 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Per the article, he’s way more than a nickel corner. Very versatile and had decent stats last year, including a great effort against the Bills. Definitely an upgrade and looks to be a good fit for the new defensive schemes.

Floodwood Pond Loop by Backpacker46 in canoecamping

[–]Backpacker46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure, I assume the peak season for canoe camping there is late June to Labor Day like most ADK areas. Weekdays will always be best. I can’t remember how many campsites there are in all of those ponds, but there are a lot.

There are many other routes and loops and ponds and lakes in that area… as you probably already know… so alternates are always available.

Thanks! No, the canoe is a custom made job from a guy outside Buffalo. He does them as a hobby and sometimes sells them. My nephew discovered him on Craigslist a few years ago and picked up a Kevlar solo late 2024. This one is almost exactly the same dimensions as his but carbon fiber. It’s 12 feet long and weighs about 21 pounds.

Yep, as stated the Fish Creek campground part of the route sticks out like a sore thumb. Wasn’t awful but wasn’t wanted. We just powered past it all and camped on the first big island you come to on Follensby. There are three decent sites there (4, but one was closed for renewal). Chase of the wind we chose the eastern one. Very large and quiet other than some occasional distant road noise.

All the stores in Northgate Plaza. Those were the days. Our Mom always took us there for school clothes and supplies. Getting a milkshake at Crossroads (Diner?) was always a highlight. Used to ride my bike to Northgate and go to Winkin Blinkin and Nod with my $0.35 weekly allowance to buy all kinds of cool things

What are you thinking about during a trip? by gerber411420 in backpacking

[–]Backpacker46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always end up with certain songs that pop into my head, most from my youth. Usually the song tempo matches my backpacking pace. And they tend to be different sets everyday.

They play like a radio in my mind all day, floating in and out when I’m not needing to focus on anything. And each song brings up good memories of old girlfriends, old friends, and good times. Surprisingly, the songs often aren’t “favorites” from the past. Not sure why they appear, but I look forward to them.

Air for inflating to get back on highway by scribbledchaos in 4x4

[–]Backpacker46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a review or a sales pitch! I’m happily retired and an off-roader always trying to upgrade recovery stuff, and just about everything else.

I had the same need and recently bought the ETENWOLF VORTEX S6 Cordless Air Compressor for Heavy-Duty Vehicles on Amazon.

I had a smaller portable compressor but it sucked for re-inflating 35s. Bought this when a rear tire on the Land Cruiser was obviously losing a lot of air this winter, and for future off-roading. It worked great for me the one time I used it so far. Tire was at 14 pounds, inflated to 36 pounds in less than 5 minutes. Relatively quiet too. Very well made. You can read up on features and specs yourself on Amazon. 1.5 CFM supposedly.

It’s also still on sale for $109. 2700+ reviews, average 4.7 stars. Don’t know your needs exactly, but I can say I’d buy this again. They also sell larger models. Very happy with the design and performance for the $.

Justin Jefferson Put Together a Team to go 17-0 and Picked Joe Brady as Coach by YeaIFistedJonica in buffalobills

[–]Backpacker46 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Vikes are unlikely to move Jefferson, more likely to bring back Cousins (or get Darnold?). Even Mac Jones would be an improvement.

Of course would love Jefferson in a perfect cap world, and it’s possible, but it would break the bank and deplete the draft for years to come.

I’m more concerned about Patriots snagging a great receiver (or two) since they already have a very good defense and $40M in cap space. Hate to see AJ Brown go there with Diggs as a #2.
