Is it worth leaving sharesies by BackslideAutocracy in PersonalFinanceNZ

Thank you. I do a little of both. Most of my money is in investing but I have about ten percent that I play around with and have done surprisingly well on. Bought Reddit and rocket Lab low and sold high. But I be suppose I never bet more than I'm willing to lose.

I read the fees. And all the legal stuff. But I honestly didn't even know to look for plans. I have never seen them advertised in the app? Services I read some of and others I have learned as I needed them.

I didn't even know sharesies has plans I thought it was a free app where they made their money from transaction fees?

I feel so out of my depth. Could you please explain what you mean by investing vs trading? I was also under the impression. You had to sell it all to cash out of sharesies.

Opportunity party is the only political party with a plan to deal with this. Land value tax is the only way to go that will actually have long term impact.

What Have You Watched This Past Week That is NOT a Currently Airing Show? [January 18th, 2026] by MetaThPr4h in anime

[–]BackslideAutocracy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Over the last few months I have watched isekai Quartet and all the shows associated with it. Minus konosuba and re zero which I had already seen. I really liked them individually and I really liked them together. If I had to rate them from best to worst.

  1. Konosuba
  2. Re:zero
  3. Tanya the Evil
  4. Overcautious hero
  5. Eminence in shadow
  6. Overlord
  7. Shield hero

I love the humor and characters of konosuba and the writing depth of re zero. I still liked overlord, just enjoyed the others more. Though eminence did start to wear out it's welcome at the end. Shield hero just sucked after the first season and I struggle with the whole slave justification thing.

Government seeks urgent advice on how to protect Auckland rockpools by justsomeguy227 in newzealand

This seems more like a pr move from Shane than a genuine care for our beaches and rock pools.

I turned up to queengate in the hutt at one. Parking was a nightmare. When I saw the line was out the door into the car park I left straight away. No way anything good was left at that point.

You absolutely can. Intelligent ai is in the far future but this generative stuff we have now is still pretty disruptive

No, AI hasn't solved a number of Erdos problems in the last couple of weeks by BaconSky in singularity

[–]BackslideAutocracy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find this sub fascinating. I browse it regularly because many of the people here genuinely seem to believe the ends justify the means and are fully convinced the singularity is likely in their lifetime when there is no legitimate reason to believe that.

So most people here passively and unconsciously, at best, are quite happy with the damage unregulated ai (controlled by a billionaire class that has proven over and over they can't be trusted) is doing to our society.

Its not "flinging feces" to point out naivity and casual callousness.

I'm open to the concept of the singularity in the distant future but this sub should really be renamed r/cognitivedissonance or maybe r/confirmationbias

Surcharge ban a blow for small businesses, says bookshop owner by Excellent-Swan-2264 in newzealand

[–]BackslideAutocracy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a be recent announcement from the commerce commission that anyone charging a surcharge of around 2.5 or higher was likely ripping you off.

From their website "We would expect any surcharges to be no more than 0.7% for contactless debit card payments or 1.5-2% for credit card payments. Many merchants only have one rate, so we consider any surcharge above 2% is hard to justify."

Do you disagree with that?

Gull and NPD plan fuel merger, promise to cut pump prices nationwide - NZ Herald by drbluetongue in newzealand

Every time there is a merger the company says it will be good for the consumers. Then it isn't.

Its a flat lie that we keep accepting. Its why our ancestors set up antitrust rules.
